Urban Martial Saint

Seeing a few more people entering, Chen Jia’an and Ye Qing were already encircled inside the house, and the policeman couldn’t help scoffing, ”How do we handle things? This is how we handle things!”

As the policeman spoke, he suddenly waved his hand, and the nearby policemen immediately rushed forward, throwing themselves directly at Ye Qing and Chen Jia’an.

Ye Qing furrowed his brows, kicked the two people behind him to the ground, and then charged forward a step, using his shoulder to knock the two attacking Chen Jia’an flying out. He quickly moved to pin down the policeman opposite him, but Chen Jia’an suddenly waved his hand at him, signaling him not to act rashly.

At that moment, the policeman in front also came to his senses, immediately drew the gun from his waist, and aimed at Ye Qing.

”You dare to assault an officer!” the policeman shouted with wide eyes, ”Come on then, try it again? I swear I’ll blow your brains out!”

Ye Qing stood still, just coldly observing the surrounding policemen. He knew that Chen Jia’an’s restraint was to see exactly how many were involved in this matter within the police department.

”Arrest them!” the armed policeman yelled, and the surrounding policemen immediately charged forward, pinning down both Ye Qing and Chen Jia’an.

Seeing Ye Qing and Chen Jia’an handcuffed, the policeman couldn’t help but rejoice, excitedly saying, ”Quick, go tell Director Lin that we’ve caught the person who called the police!”

Several policemen rushed to report to Director Lin Zhichang; meanwhile, the other busy policemen outside also breathed a sigh of relief.

”Also, call the Beggar King and tell him that we’ve caught the person he wanted!” the armed policeman turned to a colleague and added, ”He agreed to our figure; tell him to get it ready!”

”Alright!” the policemen replied, clearly excited, it seemed the Beggar King’s offer was indeed substantial.

Seeing the behavior of these policemen, Chen Jia’an’s brows tightened. He had initially thought that in Tianhui City, there were only a few black sheep colluding with the Beggar King. He hadn’t expected that, upon personally visiting, he would find so many involved in working for the Beggar King, which truly angered him. The police system in Tianhui City was as rotten to the core as that in Xishan City.

”What are you doing?” Chen Jia’an demanded sternly, ”I came here to report a crime. Instead of catching the Beggar King, you’re arresting me. What’s this all about?”

A policeman responded, ”What’s this all about? You falsely accuse good people, framing others, and trying to disrupt social stability, which is why we are arresting you.”

”I falsely accuse good people?” Chen Jia’an said sternly, ”I have evidence, and you haven’t even looked at the evidence before saying I’m falsely accusing good people. Isn’t that too arbitrary?”

The impatient policeman waved dismissively, ”What evidence? Let me tell you, we police handle our cases, not for you to point fingers here. If you talk back, believe it or not, I’ll beat you up!”

”Why bother talking to him? People like this deserve a beating!” another person came over, kicked Chen Jia’an in the stomach, and cursed, ”That’ll teach you to run your mouth!”

Ye Qing slightly frowned; these people were truly audacious. Not only were they protecting members involved in organized crime, but they were also beating up and framing the person who reported the crime, absolute scum!

Looking at Chen Jia’an, who had received a kick, his expression grew even colder. He had realized that these policemen didn’t care what the Beggar King had done; they just wanted to help him. This infuriated him more, and his gaze swept around, memorizing the faces of those policemen. He intended to investigate every one of those policemen and ensure that any criminal among them got sentenced!

Before long, Director Lin Zhichang arrived. He had also been busy dealing with the Beggar King’s matter all evening. Although he didn’t have strong ties with the Beggar King, he was well-connected with Zhou Changwu. The Beggar King had met him through Zhou Changwu, and over the years, the Beggar King had paid him well, which is why he assisted the Beggar King. Tonight, when the Beggar King was reported, he personally stopped it because he didn’t want to cut off this source of income.

Director Lin Zhichang, followed by a group of subordinates, rushed to the report room, intending to see who dared to report the Beggar King. However, as soon as he entered the door and saw Chen Jia’an standing in the room, he was instantly stunned.

”Director, I caught this man!” the policeman who had the gun immediately ran excitedly to Lin Zhichang to claim credit, saying, ”And this one, these two are together. I suspect there’s a gang behind them. Director, should I interrogate them further and catch all their accomplices?”

Lin Zhichang didn’t respond to him, just stared blankly at Chen Jia’an. He had been to the provincial department several times and had seen Chen Jia’an on several occasions; of course, he couldn’t be mistaken. Moreover, Chen Jia’an was also staring at him, his eyes exuding an air of authority, even more imposing than him!

”Director? Director?” The nearby police officer kept quietly asking as he saw Lin Zhichang looking dazed, his expression filled with surprise.

”Director Lin, hello!” Chen Jia’an looked at Lin Zhichang and sneered, ”It’s been a while, I didn’t expect that when we met again, it would be in this situation. Hmph, the police of Tianhui City, good! Really good!”

Upon hearing this, Lin Zhichang almost wet himself with fear while the other officers stared agape, not understanding how Chen Jia’an knew Lin Zhichang.

”You dare to talk to Director Lin like this!” A clueless officer immediately came forward, lifting his foot to kick Chen Jia’an, but Lin Zhichang slapped him away.

”Get lost!” Lin Zhichang finally spoke, his first words since he had entered the room.

The slapped officer covered his face, looking at Lin Zhichang in shock, not knowing what he had done wrong. Usually, even when angry, Lin Zhichang wouldn’t hit anyone in public, so what was going on?

Only then did Lin Zhichang look at Chen Jia’an and stammered, ”Vice Minister Chen… what… what brings you here?”

”Vice Minister?” A gasp sounded in the room, and the officers who had arrested Ye Qing and Chen Jia’an suddenly felt weak.

”What… what vice minister?” The officer who had been holding a gun still reluctantly asked, hoping against hope. But then, realizing that if he was a minister’s deputy, he was somebody they shouldn’t have offended!

”Are you all blind?” Lin Zhichang exclaimed, ”This is Vice Minister Chen Jia’an of the Dong Province Police Department! How could you handcuff him?”

At these words, everyone became even more panicked, and the officer with the gun had now wet himself with fear. He stared at Chen Jia’an, who, to his nightmares, turned out to be a deputy minister of the police department, a figure even more formidable than Lin Zhichang.

And the officer who had kicked Chen Jia’an wanted to bash his head against a wall in regret. Now pinching his own leg in remorse, he cursed internally, ”Damn it, you stupid leg. Nobody else was kicking, why did you have to kick? You’re really asking for trouble!”

Regret was now useless. Chen Jia’an glanced coldly at Lin Zhichang and said, ”So, Director Lin knows me after all. Well, that makes things easier. Your subordinates claim I am associated with criminals. They wanted to detain me and even forced a confession out of me. Director Lin, I just want to know, how am I supposedly associated with criminals? What exactly are the standards for judging criminals in the Tianhui City Police Department?”

Lin Zhichang stood with his mouth agape, not knowing how to respond. He knew he was in trouble this time. He regretted ever helping the Beggar King. Now, he himself was ensnared too!

”Director Chen, this is all a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding!” Lin Zhichang hurried over, personally unlocking the handcuffs on Chen Jia’an and Ye Qing, saying, ”We received a call earlier, someone reported the Beggar King for drug trafficking and numerous other crimes. However, upon investigation, we found none of the allegations to be true. Meanwhile, the Beggar King reported the accuser for slander. We are police officers; naturally, we had to act when there was a report. Little did we know, the reporter was Director Chen himself. I’m really sorry; my subordinates were too rash!”

”Is this a matter of rashness?” Chen Jia’an frowned, his voice stern, ”Director Lin, I don’t know how your subordinates investigated this issue. But I personally witnessed the Beggar King manufacturing and trafficking drugs, committing endless crimes. You say you found no evidence of his crimes, does that mean I am lying?”

”I… I certainly don’t mean that…” Lin Zhichang hastily waved and shook his head, saying, ”I… I really didn’t know, our... our people investigated, and I...”

Lin Zhichang stammered for a long time but couldn’t utter a complete sentence. At this point, he found himself unable to offer any explanation.

Chen Jia’an slowly shook his head, saying, ”Director Lin, the crimes committed by the Beggar King are so notorious that even Director Liu in Dongzhou knows about it. And here you are, overseeing Tianhui City, yet you are unaware of the Beggar King’s crimes. I think it’s meaningless for you to continue as the director!”

”What?” Lin Zhichang’s eyes widened as Chen Jia’an’s words essentially meant he was being dismissed.

Chen Jia’an spoke coldly, ”Our mission to Tianhui City was personally authorized by Director Liu. Lin Zhichang, you are to suspend all duties effective immediately and submit to an organizational investigation. Moreover, every single person in this city department will undergo an investigation; no one is exempt!”

”Director Chen, I... I really didn’t do anything…” Lin Zhichang pleaded, his face filled with despair, ”Please give me another chance. This time, I will thoroughly investigate everything and won’t let any criminal off the hook!”

”Lin Zhidao, I’m suspending you because I believe you are a criminal yourself,” Chen Jia’an looked at Lin Zhichang with cold eyes, ”And as police officers, we absolutely will not allow a criminal to catch another criminal. So now, immediately hand over your service weapon and badge. Whether you have committed any wrongdoing will be thoroughly investigated. Don’t worry, we won’t let any criminals go, but we will not wrongly accuse anyone either. If you’re honest, you have nothing to fear!”
