The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Fire?

Meng Yunzheng didn’t intend to intervene; it was already chaotic and noisy here, and it was just about time for him to head back.

However, when he inadvertently glanced in the direction of the commotion, his brows furrowed sharply.

That location...

If he remembered correctly, the place on fire seemed to be the shop that they had seen Ms. Wei enter a couple of days ago.

Meng Yunzheng hesitated for a moment, then turned his heel and still headed toward the direction of the blazing fire.

Within a few strides, he arrived at the entrance of an alley near the shop and hid in a dim corner.

Not far away, many neighbors had already come to help put out the fire, and patrolling officers had also arrived, running back and forth with buckets.

There were no rivers nearby, so they could only draw water from the water tanks stored at various homes and nearby locations.

Looking at this situation, it seemed unlikely that the fire would be extinguished anytime soon.

Some people were wailing, while others, fearing their own homes might be affected, were in a panic.

Meanwhile, others had run from afar to watch the drama unfold, and amid the noise, Meng Yunzheng vaguely heard their conversations.

”It seemed like it started in the room of one of their servants. I heard their young lady say she heard something fall on the ground, probably the oil lamp.”

”The room where the servant lives is right next to the firewood room. During this hot summer, the firewood and straw are incredibly dry, and a little spark can easily set it ablaze.”

”It spread so fast. Didn’t the young lady hear the noise when the fire started? Why didn’t she put it out immediately?”

”Who knows? Maybe the young lady didn’t realize it was a fire, or perhaps she was too scared and didn’t react.”

”I heard the servants in that house haven’t escaped yet.”

”Huh? Really?”

”It’s a pity; such a young girl, only in her twenties, quite pretty too. I just saw her during the day.”

Meng Yunzheng’s expression changed slightly. The servant of this family, a young girl in her twenties?

A bad premonition flashed through his mind.

Could this person be Ms. Wei? If it’s really her, wouldn’t that mean they just found her and she’s about to be burned to death inside?

Meng Yunzheng couldn’t leave Ms. Wei to die without trying to save her. He looked at the burning place. The shop front was a storefront, and at the back, there was a yard where the boss and the servants probably lived.

The fire was now in the backyard.

Meng Yunzheng turned and disappeared into the darkness, quickly running toward the direction of the back door.

However, there were even more people on this side, all busy trying to extinguish the fire.

He considered for a moment and headed to a side alley, planning to climb over the wall from there.

Unexpectedly, after just a few steps in the alley, a strong smell of blood reached his nose.

Meng Yunzheng’s steps came to an abrupt halt as he scanned the alley with furrowed brows. Although he felt an urgent need, he cautiously followed the scent of blood.

As he approached, the smell of blood grew stronger.

Until he stood in a corner piled high with debris, the smell was overpowering, and under the distant firelight, he could see bloodstains on the ground.

Meng Yunzheng extended his sword forward, cautiously removing a tattered bamboo basket on top.

Then he lifted the ragged oilcloth covering it, and in the next moment, a figure was revealed inside.

When Meng Yunzheng looked at the person’s face, his expression changed drastically.
