The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Fang Xiyue was indeed distracted. She nodded, ”Yes, their family is still in the same place, they haven’t moved.”

But she felt a bit strange, it was understandable for Yu to visit the Xu family. Back when Shu Yu was first exiled to Righteous Dao Village, she was grouped with the Xu family of three while opening up wasteland in the fields. Later, she even introduced the literate Xu Dali, who had lost a hand, to work in registration at the Manor.

The Xu family’s life improved significantly, and the family was very grateful to Shu Yu, maintaining occasional contact, never severing ties.

But as for the Zhang family...

Initially, the Zhang family did have a good relationship with Shu Yu. The Shu family’s house wasn’t far from the Zhang family, and when Shu Yu first arrived in Righteous Dao Village, she wanted to be friendly with her neighbors and even exchanged scar removal cream for food with the Zhang family.

However, things later got awkward when Sister-in-law Zhang fancied Shu Yu and wanted her to marry her son. Although it didn’t lead to a falling out, the relationship did become distant, and after Shu Yu returned to Dongan Province, there was no further contact.

Why is it that now she’s visiting, she wants to go to the Zhang family?

But Fang Xiyue didn’t think much of it, believing it was just a rare visit, and going to see them wasn’t a big deal.

So after handing her son to Aunt Fang, Fang Xiyue took Shu Yu to the Zhang family first.

The Zhang family members had indeed heard the news of Shu Yu’s return to Righteous Dao Village. They thought she probably wouldn’t visit them; it’s been so many years, and she might not even remember them.

Who knew that while they were discussing, they heard someone knocking on the door.

Sister-in-law Zhang opened the door and was stunned when she saw the person standing outside.

”Shu Yu?”

”Long time no see, is everything well, Aunt?”

Shu Yu smiled and handed over a gift box, which Sister-in-law Zhang received in a daze. It took her a while to react before she enthusiastically invited them in, ”It’s really you! Come in, come in. Why are you being so polite, bringing so many things?”

”It’s a rare visit, there’s no reason to come empty-handed.”

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng entered, leaving Xia Yan outside.

Sister-in-law Zhang said, ”Come in, don’t stand outside.”

Meng Yunzheng smiled, ”It’s fine, let him stay out there.”

”Well, alright then.” Sister-in-law Zhang gave a dry laugh, only then remembering that Shu Yu was now a county magistrate; having a servant stand guard outside was not unusual.

For some reason, Sister-in-law Zhang felt uneasy around Meng Yunzheng. Clearly appearing as a courteous, scholarly person, his gaze made her inexplicably apprehensive.

Once inside, Sister-in-law Zhang hurriedly asked her daughter-in-law to serve tea to the guests.

Looking at Shu Yu and then at her daughter-in-law, the difference was stark, like heaven and earth. Sister-in-law Zhang couldn’t help but secretly sigh.

If only Shu Yu had really been with their family, making them all rise with the tide and leave this miserable place.

”Pingning?” Shu Yu asked.

Sister-in-law Zhang replied, ”She was married in the second year after you left the southwest, to someone in the neighboring village. I’ll send someone to call her back, so you can reconnect.”

Shu Yu immediately stopped her, ”No need, we just came by for a short visit, we’re not staying long. We still want to see the Xu family later.”

Sister-in-law Zhang felt a surge of happiness upon hearing that Shu Yu hadn’t yet visited the Xu family and came to them first. Her smile became even brighter.

But Shu Yu indeed didn’t stay long. After exchanging a few pleasantries about recent events with Sister-in-law Zhang, she left.
