The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu looked at the visitor in surprise, ”Ma Lu?”

Isn’t he supposed to be working with the governor and not at home? How come he’s appearing in Righteous Dao Village now?

In his surprise, Ma Lu had already run up to them and said with a smile, ”I just got back home and heard Ayue mention you guys came over. I rushed to the manor, and the steward at the manor said you went hunting in the mountains. I couldn’t wait, so I came to try my luck. I didn’t expect you’d just return.”

He even raised the bow and arrow in his hand, clearly prepared to go into the mountains to hunt with them.

Ma Lu was very happy, especially when he saw Meng Yunzheng. He remembered the scene when they hunted a tiger together deep in the mountains. His heart was instantly filled with enthusiasm and he had a strong desire to do it again.

However, hearing from Ayue that they had important matters this time and couldn’t stay long in Righteous Dao Village, he regrettably had to give it up.

Meng Yunzheng nodded at Ma Lu and asked, ”I heard from Aunt Fang that you are now working with the governor, congratulations. How come you’re back today?”

”It’s just that it happened to be a holiday these last two days, and there’s not much to do around Lord Cheng. So I came back to check on Ayue and the child. Fortunately, I did, and I could meet you.”

Shu Yu was a bit curious, ”Ma Lu, is it that now you’re working with Lord Cheng, others give you some face outside?”

Ma Lu said a bit sheepishly, ”No, Lord Cheng is the governor. I’m just a small fry with some luck. I’m actually working with Guard Cheng Xian. It’s just that recently Guard Cheng Xian is not in the manor, and other guards have been assigning us. That gives me less to do, allowing me to come back.”

Shu Yu was stunned, ”Cheng Xian is not in the manor?”

”Yeah, a little more than a month ago, he was dispatched by the Lord to handle some affairs. I don’t know what exactly.”

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng glanced at each other. It’s not that they are overly sensitive; it’s just that yesterday Shu Quan mentioned in his letter that Shu Feng also pretended to break his leg and secretly left Righteous Dao Village a little more than a month ago.

Although these two events happened around the same time, it’s not certain if they are related.

Ma Lu, ”What’s the matter?”

”Nothing, we met Cheng Xian last year in Changjin Prefecture and thought that since we’re in the southwest this time, there’s a chance we might see him.”

Ma Lu couldn’t say much about that since he wasn’t sure when Cheng Xian would be back.

While talking, they had already turned and headed towards Righteous Dao Village.

Halfway, Xu Dali took the prey and went home first.

As soon as he got home, his wife Ms. Lin greeted him with a smile, taking the prey from his hand. ”Following the county magistrate and the Young Master into the mountains, what a great harvest. How about we invite the county magistrate to our home for dinner tonight? They dined at the Fang Family yesterday, so today we should invite them.”

Xu Dali shook his head, ”The county magistrate and their group will return to the county town this afternoon; they won’t stay in the village tonight.”

Ms. Lin was a bit disappointed, ”Leaving so soon?”

”Mm.” Xu Dali thought for a moment, ”Why don’t you cook your specialty spicy fried chicken, and I’ll take it to the Fang Family for the county magistrate to taste your cooking since it’s a rare visit.”

”Sure.” Ms. Lin took the prey into the kitchen.

At the kitchen door, she wanted Xu Dali to help light the fire, but saw him go straight into another room, bringing out the family’s only ink, brush, paper, and inkstone, and started grinding the ink rapidly.
