The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

However, the first Madam Shu took a liking to the girl for her efficiency in work; she was capable both in the household and in the fields, and her family had a few capable brothers. Marrying her would definitely make life much easier.

Even though Shu Feng was extremely reluctant, he still followed his mother’s advice and brought Ms. Wu home as his wife.

The Lord of the Wu family initially disagreed, but Shu Feng, being somewhat cunning, just focused on enticing Ms. Wu.

Having had many experiences with women, both wives and concubines, Shu Feng was quite adept with women. Ms. Wu, who had never experienced such affection before, was no match for him.

She wanted to marry Shu Feng, and the Lord of the Wu family ultimately couldn’t stop it.

At first, Shu Feng treated Ms. Wu quite well; after all, her arrival indeed relieved a lot of burden from his mother, sister, and himself. Furthermore, with the Wu family members watching closely from the sidelines, Shu Feng, even if just for appearances, got along harmoniously with Ms. Wu.

But now...

Shu Quan knew that ever since things improved for Shu Feng last year in the latter half, his enthusiasm for Ms. Wu had cooled.

Not only him, but the other members of the first house were also much colder towards Ms. Wu, and Shu Quan had heard some rumors that the first Madam disliked Ms. Wu for being childless even after two years in the household, and had even laid hands on her recently.

Shu Quan felt that perhaps Shu Feng was doing something secretly, of which everyone in the first house knew, except Ms. Wu.

The first house probably felt they no longer needed to rely on Ms. Wu in the future, hence the drastic change in attitude towards her.

This situation was rather convenient for Shu Quan.

He approached Ms. Wu to probe her thoughts. Ms. Wu was strong and hardworking, but when it came to cunning, she was no match for the first Madam who was used to internal household feuds.

The first Madam kept berating Ms. Wu, calling her a barren hen meant to end the Shu family’s lineage.

Saying she didn’t understand her husband’s thoughts and was fundamentally unqualified as a wife.

Saying she lacked ambition, didn’t read or write, and couldn’t communicate with her husband on equal terms.

In short, the first Madam would constantly find ways to degrade Ms. Wu.

The attacks made Ms. Wu become silent, feeling guilty towards the Shu family, and she worked even harder, becoming increasingly thin.

Shu Quan thought the first house was truly inhumane, using someone and discarding them afterward.

The first Madam was attacking her, so he decided to encourage her.

He told Ms. Wu that the inability to have children wasn’t necessarily a woman’s issue; Shu Feng had been with several women, yet hadn’t left behind any children, making it more likely a problem with him.

He told Ms. Wu that she was busy with chores every day, and once household tasks were done it was already evening, leaving no time to read and write. The first Madam’s comments were entirely insincere; she surely knew her son couldn’t father children, so she deliberately found fault with Ms. Wu to make her feel guilty.

Ms. Wu, a girl from a small town, was no match for Shu Quan’s persuasion, easily swayed by his few words.

But Shu Quan didn’t admit to misleading her; he believed he was rescuing Ms. Wu, saying what was the truth.

And precisely because it was the truth, Ms. Wu quickly established trust in him.

Seeing the time was ripe, Shu Quan instructed Ms. Wu to watch Shu Feng closely, reporting every detail of his words and actions to him. He would analyze for her what the first house’s intentions were, whether they were trying to reach higher status and possibly abandon Ms. Wu.

Although Ms. Wu hesitated, after the first Madam once again left a pile of work for her and accused her of lack of ambition, she ultimately agreed with Shu Quan, immediately taking the first step under his guidance.
