Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 246: Chapter 229: The Continuation of the Melodramatic Plot

”It was Second Brother who helped a bit,” Luo Shufan said as he put down his phone and looked at Luo Qianqian with a face full of helplessness. ”Why are you so enthusiastic about anything concerning you? Although it seems a bit slow...”

”Brother, what do we do next?” Luo Qianqian furrowed her brow, with no intention of sleeping. How could such troubling matters always fall into their lap? Perhaps it was time to pray at a temple?

”Let it be,” Luo Shufan shook his head. ”I can’t possibly just go up and ask him, can I? He might not care about saving face, but I still do. At the very least, I like being the child that others talk about.”

”I’m full of curiosity about the Yi family. What kind of capability do they have to make even the Yi family, hundreds of kilometers away, spy on us? Even when I won’t get a dime?” Luo Qianqian played with the remote control, listlessly watching TV. Although she didn’t want to sleep, she was still a bit drowsy.

”I, on the other hand, don’t think it’s that simple,” Bai Yizhu said, shaking his head as he returned after seeing off Zhang Ye. ”Just relying on the Yi family to do this to you guys is a bit too bold.”

”What, is it another arch-enemy of my grandfather’s house?” Luo Qianqian was unconvinced. ”How can all such extreme matters happen to us?”

”It doesn’t seem likely,” He Wenyu said as she finished washing the dishes and sat down. ”If your grandfather’s adversaries were that formidable, then your grandfather’s family must be formidable as well. Wouldn’t it be easy for them to get you into any school? Why would you still need to struggle in school here?”

Luo Qianqian thought about it and felt it made sense, but then quickly remembered what was said before the acknowledgment of kinship— that the Luo Family was not allowed to interfere in her and her sibling’s affairs.

”I really don’t know if I’m capable, but why think so much? I’ll give you a call to ask. We shouldn’t act on our own,” Luo Qianqian said, spreading her hands indifferently.

”Forget what mom said. She’s just afraid your choices will affect me,” Luo Shufan said as he gently ruffled his sister’s hair.

”No, I’ve always been like this, making decisions on my own. Do you feel like I don’t consider your opinions at all?” Luo Qianqian shook her head, looking at her brother. ”It seems like whatever I say goes. Brother, you aren’t afraid of raising me into a ’Queen’ who won’t take no for an answer, and then I won’t be able to get married.”

Luo Shufan laughed and lightly tapped his sister’s head. ”You’re thinking about getting married already? How old are you?”

”No foresight, surely leads to immediate worries,” Luo Qianqian said very seriously.

Luo Shufan was speechless for a while, then finally said, ”Then you might as well continue worrying about how outstanding your future husband will be.”

”Might as well worry about where to place the tomb for better prosperity of the descendants after a hundred years,” He Wenyu scoffed. ”You guys are in high school and you’re already so audacious. What will it be like in university?”

”When Brother Jiayou was at that age, didn’t Uncle Lin say so? Take proper safety measures...” Luo Qianqian unscrupulously brought up Lin Jiayou as an example, while Lin Jiayou, far away in Capital City, sneezed, pulled up his blanket, and turned over to continue sleeping.

”The world is a scary place,” He Wenyu shivered.

”You two, be pure, have self-respect and self-love. Don’t be fooled by the sweet talk and lose your mind, or believe in vows of eternal love at face value,” Luo Shufan said sternly, lecturing.

”Brother, your words don’t have any deterrence. It’d be better if Zhuzi said it. After all, you’ve never been in a relationship.” Luo Qianqian ruthlessly exposed him.

Bai Yizhu got off the phone and just happened to hear this comment. He touched his nose. ”I’ve never used sweet talk to deceive anyone, it’s always been consensual, since I’m so handsome after all.”

”Your face is so thick,” the three of them said in unison.

”Something just came to my mind...” Luo Qianqian suddenly spoke, glancing at the clock pointing to midnight, and turned to Bai Yizhu. ”Wasn’t it your parent-teacher conference today?”

”Err, you guys don’t know? Our papers weren’t marked, so it’s been moved to Friday,” Bai Yizhu said with a helpless face. ”Auntie knows, how come you don’t? Didn’t I mention it?”

”When did you say that?” Luo Qianqian asked with a face full of confusion.

”Forgot,” Bai Yizhu touched his head. ”My stuff’s not important.”

”You’re wrong, the number one big event in our family right now is your and my brother’s college entrance exam, and the second is Xiao Yu’s and my middle school exams. Everything else is minor.” Luo Qianqian checked the time. ”Let’s sleep, we still have school tomorrow.”

The next day, the girl acted quickly, made a school-wide apology, and then dropped out. A few days later, Luo Shufan awkwardly received a cardboard box at the police station, containing a small glass bottle inside which were bits of blood and flesh. Although it was sealed, Luo Shufan could still smell the blood.

”My brother said he’s taken care of it, no need to bother,” Bai Yizhu said, looking at the paper box, which had been wrapped in several layers and placed into a cardboard box.

”So what do we do with this thing?” Luo Shufan was quite disgusted.

”Keep it out of my sight; clear a space in the fridge to store this thing, okay?” He Wenyu suggested, knowing that fresh stuff is hard to deal with once it goes bad.

”Fine...” Luo Shufan went to sort out the freezer, and upon opening it, he yelled, ”Luo Qianqian! How much ice cream did you buy? We still haven’t finished it?”

”Brother Jiayou bought it, and then he went out to play and didn’t eat any before school started...” Luo Qianqian argued weakly, knowing full well she wouldn’t buy that much yet still being asked.

”Ice cream feast tonight?” Bai Yizhu looked at the fully packed ice creams, feeling lifeless. ”We’re going to freeze to death...”

”Take them to the store, keep them and sell them,” Bai Yizhu nodded and casually took out his phone to make a call.

”Leave two for cooling off,” He Wenyu said as he picked two crispy ice creams to hold.

Luo Qianqian was speechless. ”You want to eat it yourself, right? How is that supposed to cool anything off? Just leave three to five sticks; the rest can be taken away.”

”No, I mean, are you guys really planning to do some sort of flesh and blood paternity test?” Bai Yizhu hung up the phone, nodded to Luo Qianqian, then asked.

”If that person refuses to give up their idea, I don’t mind, and it seems like that girl’s family isn’t willing to let their daughter suffer so much loss either,” Luo Qianqian scoffed.

Bai Yizhu felt a chill down his spine. He’d rather provoke Luo Shufan into a furious beating than offend Luo Qianqian—she held grudges too well.

”You know, we could just take some photos, print them out, and stick them on the bulletin board to smear her name in her own voice, get her totally disgraced. Ha, ha,” He Wenyu suggested wickedly as she ate her ice cream.

”That’s unnecessary. The leadership already knows, and even if my brother doesn’t want it, that recommendation slot won’t fall into his hands!” Luo Qianqian narrowed her eyes—how could she have been fooled by someone like him in her past life, it was so embarrassing. ”Brother, show some spine, bring home ’Top Scholar’ or something so we can bask in your glory.”

”Exactly,” Bai Yizhu nodded. ”Who knows, I might just benefit from your success.”

Luo Shufan had a deadpan expression. That was a rank contested by hundreds of thousands of students across the province.

”Actually, ’Runner-up Scholar’ wouldn’t be too bad,” He Wenyu mused for a moment, stating her expectations.

Bai Yizhu was startled and quickly patted Luo Shufan on the back. ”No need for so much pressure. We’d be satisfied even with ’Third Top Scholar’.”

So? Luo Shufan didn’t want to deal with the three people in front of him. His parents weren’t pressuring him, so why were his friends and sister putting pressure on him?

”Get lost.”
