Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 221: Chapter 205: The Truth Behind the Prank

”So what exactly is your purpose in doing this?” Luo Qianqian, disdained Bai Yixian’s still swollen wound, averted her eyes as she finished disinfecting and bandaging it, then stood up and looked at the four men: ”This morning, my classmate came to me to go on an adventure at the Haunted House. At first, it was quite frightening, but later I noticed something was off. You guys are also playing the scary angle. Don’t tell me this is just to give me an unforgettable birthday.”

The four men exchanged glances. After a while, Luo Shufan stood up: ”It’s indeed not entirely about playing a prank. There’s something tonight, and we need to give you some time to buffer.”

”Don’t tell me it’s the kind that involves killings,” Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched, as she spoke without thinking and then noticed that all four men had a very serious look in their eyes—not in the mood for jokes: ”Hey, hey, hey, I’m only ten, why do I need to know about this? The world is supposed to be wonderful, right?”

”Because some people bear the burdens of the unpleasant, allowing most to see the beautiful side,” Bai Yixian said softly: ”I got hurt and even nearly spoiled Aunt’s wedding. How can I, Bai Yixian, hold my place if I don’t seek revenge?”

”Wang Wei?” Luo Qianqian frowning, looked at the four nodding men: ”Because he’s my classmate, do I have to join in your operation as well?”

”That’s not what I mean,” Luo Shufan shook his head and pulled his sister’s hand to sit down on the sofa. Luo Qianqian, disdainful at the blood-stained sofa, frowned as she sat down.

”Then what do you mean?” Luo Qianqian pursed her lips. Her brother wouldn’t harm her, but she felt embarrassed by the earlier wild thoughts about aliens and such.

”Wang Wei has secured protection from a second-rate gang. If we don’t act, and there’s someone holding a grudge against you, causing occasional trouble, would you feel safe?” Luo Shufan gently shook his head: ”It’s not just you; I fear Mom would also feel uneasy.”

”I’m not even afraid of the first-rate gangs, why would I fear a second-rate one?” Luo Qianqian looked at Bai Yixian and Lin Jiayou in surprise.

”The key is that this second-rate gang doesn’t care about your background. As long as there’s money to be made, they’ll do anything, be it killing or arson. They are small, just a dozen people, but they cannot be underestimated; they’ve risen rapidly to their current status in just half a year,” Lin Jiayou explained as he sat down and handed some documents from under the coffee table to Luo Qianqian.

”Let’s not talk about that now. Is the bloody smell in this room not from that dead chicken?” Luo Qianqian glanced at the documents, couldn’t understand them, and wondered what use telling her was—why should a young girl like her be involved in these matters?

”... It’s Wang Wei’s. He was here before he ran away; I just exerted myself a bit,” Bai Yizhu touched his nose, slightly embarrassed. It was just a few teeth and a couple of cuts, nothing to make a fuss about.

”There’s still one thing I don’t understand. Couldn’t you have handled it yourselves? Why tell me? What difference does it make whether I know or not?” Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched. Such a heavy scent of blood from just a little exertion? Was it done by biting? Surely a few punches and kicks couldn’t do that?

”Initially, that was our plan, not to tell you, which is why we let you all leave. But later, we realized there are...unstable people around you, the kind that even my intimidation doesn’t seem to affect,” Bai Yixian shook his head gently, looking helpless: ”It’s better you learn about eliminating evils thoroughly early, and not be soft-hearted.”

Luo Qianqian was taken aback. In this city, the role of Bai Yixian was obvious—were there actually those who were unaffected by him? Could it be... ”People from Capital City?”

Bai Yixian was startled, then reluctantly nodded: ”Though they might not necessarily attack you, your safety is paramount. It’s better to get involved sooner.”

”So acting tough is just to scare the monkeys?” Luo Qianqian frowned: ”Does the master know we have people around us?”

”Not yet,” Bai Yixian shook his head, feeling oppressed.

”So, you agree we should go watch a killing?” Luo Qianqian frowned as she looked towards Luo Shufan.

”Stop, it isn’t about killing yet,” Bai Yizhu’s eyelids twitched, feeling persuading Luo Qianqian was much harder than persuading Luo Shufan.

”Why should I go along? To hold others back? Or to watch how fragile life is and write a reflection afterward? Or to assess how people react when they’re in dire straits? I think besides getting psychologically scarred, there’s no benefit.” Luo Qianqian turned her head away. Everyone else’s birthday is about doing good deeds, so why does hers have to be about eradicating evil?

Luo Shufan couldn’t help but laugh and cry, ”Why don’t you say I’m asking you to figure out where to dig a hole and bury someone?”

”I wouldn’t know how to do that either.” Luo Qianqian turned her head away, not looking at her brother, letting him scare her: ”I don’t understand anything about Zhou Yi divination.”

”Think about your dad.” Bai Yizhu felt it was cruel too, but thinking about the dark family secrets his brother had mentioned, he steeled his heart: ”If you can’t bear this, how will you avenge your father?”

As soon as he said this, not only Luo Qianqian but Luo Shufan too widened his eyes. Bai Yixian stretched out his hand too late to stop him, a hint of annoyance appeared on his face, wondering why he had mentioned this matter to this idiot.

Luo Shufan was about to ask when Luo Qianqian grabbed his hand and looked meaningfully at Bai Yixian before saying, ”You’ve convinced me. When and what are we doing? What do I need to do?”

”You don’t need to do anything, just watch.” Bai Yixian shook his head: ”Zhuzi, go get their school uniforms and backpacks, you three will stay here tonight.”

”I’m calling Mom.” Luo Qianqian picked up her phone.

— Mom, I’m out with friends today, having a blast. Did you get the certificate yet?

— Just came out, aren’t you coming home? I bought a cake.

— Mom, have it with Uncle, it’s the anniversary of your certificate, haha.

— Is your brother with you?

— Yep, Brother Jiayou is here too. Don’t worry, Zhuzi and Big Brother Bai are here too, and I have a classmate and there’s cake, haha.

— Your uncle even bought you a birthday present. I’ll leave it in your room then, you come home early, let your brother take the phone.

Luo Qianqian handed the phone to her brother with a resigned expression. Luo Shufan confirmed his sister’s words and then promised to bring her home early before hanging up.

”Hey, Mom got married, now we can stay out all night.” Luo Qianqian had a sly smile on her face.

”You’re right, the two of us together can, but not one of us alone, whether it’s you or me!” Luo Shufan sternly warned his sister: ”From now on, you must be home before dark.”

”That’s so unreasonable, it’s already dark when school lets out in winter.” Luo Qianqian pouted in dissatisfaction.

”Enough, you two. Why am I not included in the curfew? Aren’t we all family?” Lin Jiayou interjected from the side. It was supposed to be the three siblings living together, so why only mention two?

”You can stay out all night.” Luo Shufan and Luo Qianqian said in unison.
