Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 228: Chapter 211: How Can Good Friends Be Awkward for So Long?_2

After dinner with the kids and handing out the gifts from the trip, she visited the He Family downstairs and then returned to her new home. An Zilan was very confident about the children and never thought they would cause any trouble.

”It feels unfair,” Luo Shufan said, looking at the stuff in his hand and then at what his sister had, clearly not equal in amount.

”This clearly belongs to Zhuzi’s share, and you’re jealous? I really wonder if you’re my real brother, maybe you were picked up?” Luo Qianqian huffed as she picked out her favorites and took them back to her room.

Lin Jiayou was quietly playing with his phone, obviously texting, all smiles, and one could easily guess who was on the other side of the conversation.

Luo Qianqian took out her phone, wanting to text Bai Yizhu to ask what gift he wanted, but she noticed her phone screen flickering—was it Shen Yan?

”Hello?”

”Qianqian,” Shen Yan’s voice came through the receiver, sounding a bit shaky.

”What’s up? Which school did you go to?”

”We haven’t decided yet, Qianqian, I want to ask you, if you were me, what would you choose now? Going abroad, returning to Capital City, or somewhere else?”

”Me? I don’t know, but the most dangerous place is the safest place. I don’t know where your most dangerous place is, and don’t tell me either, okay?”

”Qianqian, I’ve known him since we were kids, he’s my neighbor. I never thought he had such a big background. When he said he wanted to leave with me that year, I never doubted it, but now I don’t know what to do.” Shen Yan’s voice choked, as if she was at her breaking point.

”So, do you want to leave him? Are you tired of him dragging you down? Or are you scared?”

”Of course not,” Shen Yan’s voice crisply reached Luo Qianqian’s ears, without a hint of hesitation.

”Then his identity doesn’t matter to you, right? Is it hard for you guys to change a name or an identity? They don’t have time to bother you right now, right? You have enough room to maneuver.”

”Yeah, thank you, Qianqian.” The call was disconnected, and Luo Qianqian lost the desire to make any calls, watching the phone screen with a wry smile. Who doesn’t have some secrets or privacy?

Even as Shen Yan got wrapped up in affairs related to the Han Family, she could calmly offer advice, but why couldn’t she contain herself when it came to He Wenyu who had just met Zhao Wenxuan? Thinking this, Luo Qianqian opened the door and rushed downstairs, knocking on the He Family’s door.

”Who is it?” Huang Yueran opened the door and saw Luo Qianqian, looking surprised: ”Qianqian, come in, your mom just left awhile ago.”

”Godmother, I’m not here to see my mom. Is Xiao Yu here? Mom bought us gifts, let Xiao Yu come and pick something he likes.” Luo Qianqian was all smiles, without the awkwardness she previously felt seeing He Family when she was upset with He Wenyu.

”Xiao Yu! Xiao Yu! Qianqian is here for you!” Huang Yueran replied with a relieved smile, although the kids never said anything, she could tell there had been displeasure between them, and they hadn’t gone out together anymore.

Hearing his mom’s call, He Wenyu was surprised as he peeked out from his room, and seeing Luo Qianqian standing at the doorway, he was about to jump up but held back, his expression conflicted and his lips twitching uncontrollably as he asked shakily, ”What are you doing here?”

Luo Qianqian smiled and entered the room, taking He Wenyu by the hand: ”Let’s go, pick a gift, godmother, Xiao Yu is staying over at my place today.”

”Okay, come down early for breakfast tomorrow,” Huang Yueran nodded, serene: ”We’re having pig’s trotters in the morning.”

Luo Qianqian stumbled, pig’s trotters? In the morning? Wouldn’t that be too greasy?

But seeing her godmother’s smiling face, she still nodded: ”I can eat a big bowl by myself.”

”Humph, you always talk big, but you don’t eat nearly as much as I do when it comes down to it,” He Wenyu snorted, but his expression had clearly softened a lot.

”Still mad?” Luo Qianqian pulled He Wenyu back to her room: ”I’m not as hot-tempered as you, not making me the biggest cake, so stingy.”

Luo Qianqian squinted her eyes and pulled out the gifts An Zilan had brought back: ”See which one you like?”

”Who cares,” He Wenyu casually picked one: ”You’re lucky I even make them for you, picking and choosing, maybe I won’t make them next time.” His face, however, relaxed with a breath of relief: ”This one then.”

Luo Shufan noticed his sister had gone out and didn’t expect she would bring back someone who hadn’t been home for nearly half a year. He finally relaxed, very aware of the entire ordeal they had been through. He smiled as he cut some fruit and poured some milk for them, also grabbing some delicious cookies his mom had brought back, knocking on his sister’s room door: ”Qianqian, I left some food for you guys in the kitchen, don’t stay up too late.”

Hearing her brother’s voice, Luo Qianqian stuck her tongue out at He Wenyu and replied, ”Got it.”

You still remember me, huh? Weren’t you saying we wouldn’t talk anymore?” He Wenyu blurted out then quickly covered his mouth, a look of self-reproach on his face, berating himself for mentioning what should have been left unsaid.

”Right,” Luo Qianqian nodded: ”But I’m magnanimous, not holding it against you. Fall in young love all you want, get deceived by bad guys if that’s your choice, at least you have someone to confide in while I’m here. If I weren’t around, you’d really have no one to talk to about your problems.”

He Wenyu’s tears fell as he was moved by Luo Qianqian’s previous upset behavior. Actually, he had developed a slight barrier towards Zhao Wenxuan, only hidden by her own pretense, unbeknownst to others. Over these months, he had constantly berated himself for letting a classmate cause a rift between him and his friend, but as things progressed, he couldn’t complain and had no one to confide in. This sort of secret was something he only felt safe discussing with Luo Qianqian.

”What are you crying for, I’m telling you, we made a deal, if I don’t agree, you can’t date him!” Luo Qianqian pounced on He Wenyu, threatening: ”If you’re not good, I’ll ignore you.”

”But... we’re already dating...” He Wenyu looked innocent and aggrieved.
