Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 219: Chapter 204: A Rather Thrilling Birthday (Part 2)

However, the day was far from over. After lunch at the restaurant and receiving gifts, Luo Qianqian didn’t head home but waited on the road for Bai Yizhu’s arrival to pick her up. After bidding farewell to her friends, she hurried to the agreed-upon spot.

”Zhuzi, why are you dressed so formally today?” Luo Qianqian asked with surprise as she looked at Bai Yizhu.

”Aren’t you the star today? Was this morning fun?” Bai Yizhu chuckled softly.

”It was okay, a bit scary at the start, though,” Luo Qianqian nodded. ”As long as the food is good, I’m happy. But I think I’ll be put off red food for a few days.”

”No worries, rice is white,” Bai Yizhu stopped the car at the villa they had visited that day, ”The Boss is waiting for you at home.”

Luo Qianqian, being familiar with Bai Yizhu, didn’t stand on ceremony. As she watched Bai Yizhu park the car, she pushed the door open herself. Upon entering, she wrinkled her nose at the smell of blood. Frowning, she looked around and gaped at the sight of Bai Yixian sitting on the couch, his back to her, his shirt soaked red with blood, head down, in silence.

”What happened?” Luo Qianqian hurried over, circled the couch to face Bai Yixian, and saw that his hand hanging down held a chicken still dripping with blood, the other hand clutching a knife, and remembered there was a basin below. At that moment, he sat with his eyes closed, face covered in blood.

”Qianqian? This chicken was so hard to kill, grab me a towel, please. I got blood in my eyes,” Bai Yixian, hearing the familiar footsteps, didn’t move but slightly lifted his head.

”You’re something else,” Luo Qianqian quickly fetched a towel, having initially thought Bai Yixian was injured, only to find out he was slaughtering a chicken—making a bloody mess everywhere. ”Give me the knife, toss that carcass in the basin. As for your eyes, I wouldn’t dare to wipe them.”

”My heavens, what’s going on here? Brother, what happened to you?” Bai Yizhu was also stunned upon entering the room, yet his expression was overly dramatic. Upon seeing the lifeless chicken, the corner of his mouth twitched, ”My dear brother, up until now, your culinary skills extend only to instant noodles, and just the pour-boiling-water-over-them kind. What do you plan to do with a dead chicken?”

”Make soup,” Bai Yixian said as he dabbed his face with the towel, then took the towel into the bathroom. Luo Qianqian poked at the chicken lying on the ground with its neck broken, her expression slightly changing—the chicken’s body was cold? But the blood smearing Bai Yixian’s face and even dripping down the chicken’s body was clearly fresh.

”Qianqian, do you know how to do this?” Bai Yizhu asked, seeing Luo Qianqian’s somewhat strange expression, trying to change the subject.

”In my house, I’m banned from cooking,” Luo Qianqian spread her hands and stood up, ”Call my brother, I feel like he’d know how. As for getting rid of chicken feathers and stuff, that’s another matter.”

”Shufan is on his way, he won’t be here for a while,” Bai Yizhu nodded, looking away with a bit of guilt. Really, what were these people thinking? Other people’s birthdays featured the Little Princess, with pink bubbles of warm happiness filled with balloons, flowers, and dolls, yet Luo Qianqian’s birthday was wrapped in blood-red romance.

Luo Qianqian felt something was odd but didn’t think too much of it. In her eyes, the Bai brothers were family, trustworthy.

”Where’s your first-aid kit? It looks like your brother’s bandages got stained with blood too. I’ll help him change them later? And with a house like this, aren’t you well off enough to hire someone to take care of things?” Luo Qianqian, following the direction given by Bai Yizhu, started searching the cabinet for the first-aid kit.

Bai Yizhu sighed inwardly. Did they really have to follow the script so closely? He hadn’t even spoken or opened his mouth yet.

”Isn’t that out of fear that someone may have ill intentions? You know what my brother used to do. If something happened to him, how could I ever face the ancestors of the Bai Family?”

”Stop, you’re overacting,” Luo Qianqian pursed her lips. ”Don’t all other Bosses have a bunch of loyal underlings ready to die for them? Your brother is failing as a Boss.”

”How many truly loyal people are there these days? They’re rare! Anyone can be bought for the right price. You pay them, someone else pays more, and they’re gone. People are that practical nowadays,” Bai Yizhu shook his head. ”You’ve watched too much TV. I’ll have to get your brother to cut you off from it; it’s too dangerous.”

”I seem to recall you also were a little Boss who wouldn’t be betrayed, remember?” Luo Qianqian retorted, recalling her childhood quite vividly.

”The most righteous are students who don’t understand anything. Once they enter society, it’s a different story. I was young too back then, keep it low-key,” Bai Yizhu waved his hand with a modest look.
