Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 203: Chapter 190: Class Competition Against Class 17 (Part 2)

”Xia Qi, go find the music teacher. We’re not having music class this afternoon. Li Qi, tell the geography teacher the afternoon class is moved to next week’s self-study session,” Pei Yuhao said frowningly as he looked at the schedule. Besides the first class in the afternoon being Chinese, the other two had been changed, with the fourth period fixed for self-study: ”Those who don’t want to attend classes, come here for a fake sick note, and you can leave after the first afternoon class. Those who want to improve their midterm grades, stay behind.” Li Qi and Xia Qi were slightly taken aback before leaving the classroom, being friends, they would support Pei Yuhao’s work unconditionally.

”Hey, your brother’s pretty bold, huh?” Luo Qianqian said, sitting at her desk and looking at Pei Yuhao, who had the air of a great leader. She spoke admiringly, ”But what can he do? It’s not cheating, is it? Should I take the afternoon off to go home and sleep?”

”Let me predict your fortune, and I think you’re not going to make it back,” Pei Yutian said, opening his mouth and finally voicing his suspicion, ”My guess is that my brother is counting on you.”

Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes, ”Do you think I’m a Great Immortal? Can I foresee the exam questions?”

”You’re not a Great Immortal, you’re a god,” Pei Yuhao said with a grin, taking his seat, ”Luo Qianqian, you can’t just stand by and watch us die. We’re friends.”

”Nope, I’m going home,” Luo Qianqian said, shaking her head firmly. They all got along pretty well, and she could treat it as extracurricular fun. There were so many people; she wasn’t a tutor.

”For Children’s Day on June 1st, our class will organize a trip, and you decide the location,” Pei Yuhao immediately offered, ”We’ll take care of all your food and ensure you have a great time.”

”I prefer to sleep at home,” Luo Qianqian replied, unmoved.

Pei Yuhao thought for a moment, ”You won’t want money... How about I remember this favor, and when your mom gets married, I’ll give a big wedding gift?”

Luo Qianqian looked at Pei Yuhao with a hint of surprise.

”You weren’t planning on inviting us, were you?” Seeing Luo Qianqian’s shocked expression, Pei Yuhao felt sure about his assumption, ”Hey, hey, hey, what a waste considering we even prepared a congratulatory gift for you. You definitely must stay this afternoon as compensation for the emotional damage you’ve caused our young hearts.” Pei Yuhao’s mouth curled into a smirk, his face displaying triumphant scheming.

”How did you know about this?” Luo Qianqian frowned. Surely Pei Yuhao hadn’t been investigating her?

Seeing Luo Qianqian’s suddenly cold demeanor, Pei Yuhao hurriedly waved his hands, ”You forgot about the time we met your parents at the hospital? Ah, your stepdad, then my mom found out. The gift was prepared long ago, I haven’t been investigating you.”

”Hmph, for Auntie’s sake, I won’t hold it against you. I’ll talk to my mom when I get home,” Luo Qianqian counted on her fingers, calculating the number of people to invite from her class – there were six, plus unexpected parents and her elementary school friends. She didn’t know if she could fit everyone at two tables, including Elder Zhang’s family. As for elementary school friends and current teachers, they could just wait to be given some wedding candy afterwards.

”So, this afternoon...” Pei Yuhao smiled sheepishly, rubbing his hands together nervously.

”What do you think I can do? All I usually do is guide you through your homework,” Luo Qianqian sighed, looking troubled.

”Then talk about the parts that you find difficult. Once you understand those parts, you understand everything else,” Pei Yuhao suggested.

Pei Yutian slapped his brother’s arm hard.

”Why’d you hit me?” Pei Yuhao looked at Pei Yutian with confusion and a touch of annoyance. Was he not busy dealing with important class matters, couldn’t he see that?

”The parts Luo Qianqian finds difficult, do you think, we could understand?” Pei Yutian rolled his eyes, ”Don’t tell me you’re oblivious to the titles of the exams she does usually.”

”Experimental High School...” Pei Yuhao suddenly remembered the source of Luo Qianqian’s exam papers, and his expression became a bit embarrassed.

Luo Qianqian sighed, ”I’ll do my best, but after all, I won’t be that bad. Whatever happens to you guys is your own doing.”

Pei Yuhao quickly nodded, ”Okay, I’ll talk to our classmates at noon.”

So that afternoon, no one asked for leave. As soon as the Chinese class was over, everyone orderly went to the bathroom and cleaned the blackboard. Luo Qianqian was stunned, ”What’s going on here?”

”We may be Class Nine, but who says we don’t want to do well on exams? It’s just a matter of ability, nothing we can do about that,” You Yong turned and explained, ”The class leader is right, if we don’t try at least once, how would we know if we’re really not capable or just think we’re not?”

Luo Qianqian smiled, not expecting that Pei Yuhao actually had great leadership abilities. She said, ”Right, it’s difficult to work hard all your life, but working hard for one day, to have no regrets about the future, is also good.”

”So, Teacher Luo, I’ll be relying on your guidance later,” You Yong chuckled, flipping open his books for Chinese, math, and English, ”What lesson are we starting with?”

”Just finished Chinese class, and now onto math.” Luo Qianqian blinked, could it be she expected to convey the math concepts well but relied solely on feeling and understanding for Chinese? She might as well have told the entire Class One to give up on their Chinese scores.

During the first lesson, she wrote a blackboard full of scorable steps and explained points that could fetch marks even without full comprehension; just like that, one period passed.

In the second lesson, at Luo Qianqian’s insistence, the class memorized vocabulary and grammar for half the period and spent the other half quizzing each other.

The third lesson involved memorizing and dictating poems that were sure to be on the test, after which Luo Qianqian explained how to write essays to score high marks and improvised a few examples of introductions and conclusions.

After the school bell rang, Luo Qianqian coughed twice and Pei Yuhao quickly passed her some tea, ”That’s it then, everyone just go home and review. No need to stress; after all, it’s just the mid-term exams.”

”Luo Qianqian, you’re something else,” Xiu Xian said, watching as classmates trickled out of the room, and he made his way from the back, ”You’ve had it rough.”

”Teacher?” Luo Qianqian faltered, forgetting to swallow, then choked: ”Cough cough cough.”

”What are you so worried about? I’m not going to eat you. If I weren’t here, do you think you could have managed to get three periods in a row so smoothly?” Xiu Xian helped Luo Qianqian catch her breath, ”I heard there’s a bet with Class Seventeen? If you lose, you’ll have to leave Class Nine?”

”Can’t you have a little more trust in us?” Pei Yuhao knew the head teacher was around, otherwise they couldn’t have secured the self-study sessions so easily, considering how closely teachers usually watch their classes, ”With Qianqian in charge, our ranking is secure.”

”Give me a break,” Luo Qianqian sighed lightly, ”Under such circumstances, if Pei Yuhao didn’t accept the challenge, it would have seemed like cowardice and he would have been ridiculed by Class Nine and even other classes. Accepting meant facing a fifty-fifty chance of winning.”

”You won’t leave Class Nine,” Pei Yuhao stated confidently.

Xiu Xian simply smiled, said nothing, but couldn’t hide the mirth in his eyes.

The next day, Luo Qianqian was briefly taken aback by the confidence of Class Seventeen, but she soon regained her composure. At most, they might have gotten the correct answers, but in a place like Class Seventeen, even with the right answers, there would still be doubts about their authenticity.

At noon, Gu Yanzhi found Luo Qianqian and led her to a hidden corner, passing her a sheet of paper.

”What’s this?” Luo Qianqian looked at the paper in her hand, stunned. What’s with all the ABCDs on it?

”What do you think?” Gu Yanzhi revealed a mysterious smile, ”These are the answer keys to our midterm exams.”

”Answer keys?” Luo Qianqian scanned it, her expression growing more peculiar. It was the answer to Chinese and math tests they had that morning, ”If this is the answer key, then I’m set to score zero.”

”Haha, I only looked at it after the test, too. This ’standard wrong answer key’ has options that are the easiest to mistake. It’s like the real and fake Monkey Kings.” Gu Yanzhi waved his hand with an air of profound mystery, ”But I got this from a friend who bought it in Class Seventeen, their guaranteed Secret Manual for victory.”

”Where would Class Seventeen get the answers from?” Luo Qianqian looked at the answer sheet, all the major numbers for the essay questions were exactly the same, it was only the differing conditions that led to different answers, ”Why do I feel like the midterm was tailored to this answer sheet?”

”Figured it out, huh? For this test, the teachers of Class One and Class Two spent three days to perfectly target all the questions. Since the test answers were stolen, and then there was the issue with Class Seventeen troubling your class, weren’t they just exposing themselves?” Gu Yanzhi chuckled, ”Your class teacher knew about it too, the English paper was only redrafted during our morning session, they’re printing it right now.”

”So there are people in the school selling test information for extra money. Only teachers who are completely trusted by the headmaster after an investigation can participate in drafting the new test, right?” Luo Qianqian’s face showed resignation, ”Every school has such elements, it’s not strange once you’re used to it.”

”So, our class will definitely win, huh?” Luo Qianqian paused for a moment, then still asked under Gu Yanzhi’s slightly amused gaze.

”As long as there aren’t others like you, the English test this afternoon is said to be tough because it has to be based on the answer key, so you need to read the paper carefully,” Gu Yanzhi smiled and then asked softly, ”What do you think of me?”

Luo Qianqian naturally responded, ”You’re nice, gentle, smart, good-looking, quite good I’d say. Why do you suddenly ask?”

Gu Yanzhi, feeling slightly embarrassed, touched his head, ”Just curious about how others see me.”

”Oh.”
