King of the Wilderness

This is also a high-altitude work that requires great patience and precision.

Lin Yu’an and Hank are responsible for sliding long metal sheets from the roof ridge down with care and aligning them.

While Cody and Barton are in charge of securing them from below.

They use specially designed roof screws with EPDM waterproof sealing rings.

When the screws are tightened, the sealing rings are compressed, perfectly wrapping around the screw holes to prevent any leakage.

”Da-da-da...”

The crisp sound of the impact driver echoes rhythmically on the roof.

They start from one side of the roof, proceeding methodically, one sheet overlapping the other.

Finally, at the highest point of the roof, they install custom-made ridge caps, perfectly joining the two sides of the roof!

When the last screw with a sealing ring is tightened, the entire outer structure of the cabin is finally completely sealed!

Meanwhile, during the twenty-plus days of building the outer structure, the internal ”threading” work was also being undertaken simultaneously.

Mechanician Cody, with his professional knowledge, became the team’s chief electrical and plumbing engineer.

He was responsible for reserving and installing all the lines between the walls and floors.

When constructing each wall, they use special tools to drill hidden wire channels in the logs.

Cody immediately inserts PEX conduits, extending from the location of the distribution box to every future socket, switch, and fixture installation spot.

Similarly, the hot and cold water PEX pipes connecting kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms, and the ABS sewage pipes leading to the septic tank, are installed at a reasonable slope within the walls and floor interlayers.

The most important heating system also has the corresponding pipelines reserved. Special spatial planning is done for the fireplace’s position.

They even pre-embedded and fixed the bases for future bathtub and toilet installations in advance.

After the main structure is completed, the vertical transportation of the entire cabin becomes a new challenge. Lin Yu’an decides to build a log staircase to replace the current simple wooden ladder.

First, he uses a band saw to split two huge, straight logs in half, forming the two semicircular side beams of the main staircase.

Next, he precisely cuts out the outlines of grooves for placing the steps on the two massive side beams.

While he is processing the side beams, Stan, Barton, and others are tasked with processing the slightly thinner logs into rectangular steps.

Once all parts are processed, assembly begins.

They embed each step into the grooves of the side beams and securely fix them from the outside with screws.

Soon, a massive log staircase is assembled in the reserved position between the first and second floors.

They also make and install a more delicate ”L”-shaped log staircase, connecting the second floor to the attic in the same way.

When both staircases are installed, everyone for the first time, without using any ladders, steps on the solid log steps, steadily walking from the first floor to the second, and easily ascending to the attic!

Finally, from platform construction to cabin sealing, the entire process took about twenty-nine days.

A wooden cabin shell with a solid foundation, thick walls, a majestic roof, and all core lines pre-embedded has been built!

Old George looked at this masterpiece, which embodied everyone’s sweat, and patted Lin Yu’an on the shoulder with satisfaction.

”Kid, we’ve done the hardest and heaviest work for you; what’s left is the fine decorations and fillings. You have to take that slowly yourself.”

Lin Yu’an looked at the building that was about to become his home, filled with indescribable excitement and gratitude.

”Thank you, George, Stan, and everyone else.”

He sincerely said, ”I hope if you ever need help in the future, you will call me! I’ll be there anytime you need!”

After bidding farewell to all his partners, Lin Yu’an stood alone in front of his cabin, as if in a dream.

He could not imagine that he had actually built a cabin in Alaska that belonged to him!

Next, it will be his own work.

He needs to fill the walls with sealing materials, construct internal partition walls, and build a chimney that will extend through the roof, a massive project.

(Novel is accelerated, please understand, in reality, building a cabin takes at least two months.)
