King of the Wilderness

Chapter 113: Chapter 108: Wood Forest Land and New House Plans

”Lin! Oh my god, what exactly have you prepared?”

David stepped forward quickly, curiously observing him.

”The preliminary preparations are basically complete.”

Lin Yu’an was concise and immediately announced today’s plan.

”Now, we set out, and hike to my land. You can start filming.”

”Hiking?”

David glanced at the muddy and nearly unrecognizable dirt road, gasping.

He and Mike were wearing heavy Sorel snow boots but still felt enormous challenge facing such mud and water mixed conditions.

Without unnecessary words, Lin Yu’an took the lead.

His steps were steady, each step firm, clearly experienced in walking on such surfaces.

David and Mike exchanged a glance, and could only turn on the camera and brace themselves to follow, trudging with deep and shallow steps.

During the snow melt period, some places had melted snow gathering into streams, requiring careful finding of footholds to pass.

Mike, carrying the heavy camera, almost slipped several times, fortunately, his balance was quite good, avoiding danger each time.

Lin Yu’an reminded the two: ”Watch your steps, try to step on places with roots or stones, the deepest mud usually looks the flattest.”

After nearly two hours of difficult trekking, they finally reached the plateau at the highest elevation.

Standing here, their view suddenly opened up, overlooking the winding Koyukuk River tributary and the endless sea of coniferous forests.

Lin Yu’an put down the huge backpack with a ”bang” muffled sound.

His chest rose slightly, breathing evenly, forming a stark contrast with the panting David and Mike.

He turned around, solemnly announcing facing Mike’s already directed camera lens.

”From today on, this place will be called ’Wood Forest Land’ (Mu Sen Lin Di).”

David, gasping, seized the opportunity to ask: ”Wood Forest Land? Do these words have any special meaning, Lin?”

”Mu and Sen in my native language represent trees and forests.”

”I hope my home can root, grow, and be filled with vitality like a forest here.”

The naming ceremony was brief yet powerful.

David looked at this snowy land and asked: ”Lin, are we spending the night here tonight? Is your plan to... set up a tent?”

”Yes, but not an ordinary tent.”

Lin Yu’an spoke while walking toward the nearby mysterious supply mountain covered with a huge white plastic sheet, resembling a small hillock.

David and Mike had long been curious about what’s under the plastic sheet, guessing it might be timber cut by Lin Yu’an.

Under their puzzled gaze, Lin Yu’an grasped a corner of the plastic sheet and forcefully flipped it up!

”Whala——” with a sound.

The giant plastic sheet was lifted, revealing what’s underneath.

At that moment, both David and Mike’s breaths paused, their eyes slightly widened with shock.

It’s not the logs or building materials they imagined!

Instead, it was a supply mountain composed of numerous wooden crates and waterproof plastic boxes of varying sizes piled up!

The most striking was that strange three-wheeled motorcycle! It had a motorcycle front, but behind was a huge cargo bed and two exaggeratedly wide tires.

”Oh god... Lin! What is... what’s going on here?”

David’s voice was somewhat distorted from excessive shock, and he rushed forward, incredulously touching a wooden box printed with Chinese characters.

”These things... how did they appear here?”

Photographer Mike’s lens immediately offered a panoramic view, then quickly zoomed and panned on those supplies, capturing every detail — and that monstrous-looking tricycle.

Lin Yu’an observed their shocked expressions, calmly explaining.

”Before notifying you, I utilized the last window period before roads were closed during the snow melt period to transport them here.”

”Transport here?” David’s volume involuntarily increased.

”You’re saying just by yourself? From Fairbanks? Through that damned muddy road?”

”Not entirely by myself; Stan helped guard by the roadside.”

Lin Yu’an walked to the red Zongshen tricycle, patting its solid cargo bed.

”Mainly relying on it, my ’war horse’, I first used a heavy-duty truck to transport a container filled with supplies to the roadside five kilometers away.”

”Then using the ’ant moving’ method, trip after trip, transported everything here using this tricycle.”

After listening to Lin Yu’an’s understated explanation, David felt his brain was somewhat frozen.

He knew well how insane it was to complete such a large-scale supply transfer during the snow melt period, a task impossible by human hands, let alone within just a few days.

”This... this is crazy! Lin! This is simply crazy!”

David paced back and forth excitedly, then suddenly remembered something!

Grabbing Lin Yu’an’s arm, with bright eyes pursued: ”Did you record it? This process! You surely recorded it, right? This is the first step to conquering Alaska, the perfect beginning of the whole story!”

Lin Yu’an nodded: ”I recorded the key parts with a GoPro, from container delivery and unloading to the first drive of the tricycle into the mud.”

”The material is all in my laptop, you can check when we return to the rented cabin tonight.”

”Great! Great!”

David excitedly pumped his fist, as if he could already see the audience’s stunned expressions when the first episode of the documentary aired!

His previous dissatisfaction and doubts about Lin Yu’an acting alone vanished at this moment, replaced by immense anticipation for this new star of the show!

David’s enthusiasm for work was instantly ignited to its peak, and he shouted at Mike, who was still in a daze.

”Mike! What are you standing there for? Film everything! Give our ’hero’ a close-up!”

Understanding the situation, David even took the initiative to help Lin Yu’an set up the tent, working with unprecedented vigor.

Lin Yu’an chose a wind-sheltered, relatively flat snowy area, first using an engineer’s shovel to clear the snow away, revealing the hard frozen ground beneath.

Then he took out a tent and explained to the eager David.

”This is a ’hot tent’.”

”The fabric has been treated to be fireproof, and most importantly, it has a chimney opening.”

Lin Yu’an skillfully set up the tent, then pointed to a small circular hole on the side of the tent.

David leaned in and noticed the edge of the hole was lined with thick gray fireproof cloth.

”All the safety details need to be in place. This fireproof ring ensures that even if the chimney gets extremely hot, it won’t ignite the tent.”

Lin Yu’an walked to the ”mountain of supplies” covered by a large oilcloth and lifted a corner.

Then, with the help of the two men, they unsealed a wooden crate, revealing a black cast-iron stove.

”Lin... what is this? A stove?”

Lin Yu’an patted the stove, producing a dull metallic sound: ”Yes, it’s more powerful than you think. For now, I only need its stove body to serve as an oversized tent wood stove.”

Next, with the help of both men, the giant ”Warm Winter S-200” was moved inside the tent, placed on the cleared frozen ground.

Its position was precisely calculated, perfectly aligning with the tent’s fireproof chimney opening.

Then, he picked up several sections of black chimney pipe from the side, connecting them precisely one by one. The last section extended steadily out of the tent’s fireproof ring, rising nearly a meter above the top of the tent.

A powerful and luxurious ”shelter,” far exceeding that of an ordinary wild camp, sprang up in just over an hour under his hands.

Seeing the shelter, scenes flashed through David’s mind!

As night fell, the temperature outside the tent plummeted to minus twenty degrees, and the cold wind howled.

But inside the tent, it was a different scene.

The stove was burning fiercely, its walls radiating a steady and intense heat, warming the entire tent as if it were spring.

On top of the stove, a pot of aromatic broth was bubbling away.

Lin Yu’an sat by the fire, wearing only a thin fleece jacket, enjoying a steaming hot dinner.

”It’s simply the most perfect opening shot!”

David couldn’t help but mumble to himself, causing Lin Yu’an and Mike to give him a puzzled look.

Not feeling embarrassed after realizing the awkwardness, David approached Lin Yu’an to ask.

”Lin, tell me about your upcoming plans! Let me have a more specific imaginative picture!”

With the stove lit and the warmth of the tent, Lin Yu’an took out sheets of paper and a pencil, starting to write and draw on them.

Curious, David leaned over: ”What are you drawing? Is it... house blueprints? Is this your next plan?”

”Exactly.” Lin Yu’an nodded.

”I must have a clear blueprint before the real construction begins.”

”Can you share your ideas with us? How big of a home are you planning?” David asked timely.

”A home big enough.”

Lin Yu’an’s eyes sparkled with anticipation for the future plans.

”A two-story traditional North American log cabin with an attic, with a total usable area of around three hundred square meters.”

He turned his notebook towards the camera, which already depicted a quite detailed layout sketch.

”The first floor is the core activity area for the family. I need an open-plan living room over sixty square meters, including a large stone fireplace area.”

”A long dining table that can accommodate more than a dozen people, along with a dedicated kitchen. The large cast iron pot will have its dedicated spot.”

”The master bedroom is also on the first floor, convenient for Aliya and me, with a separate bathroom and walk-in closet nearby.”

”Additionally, a large, semi-underground walk-in basement can serve as a food storage cellar, along with a porch connecting to the outside.”

”And the second floor? Is it prepared for the kids?” David pursued.

”Yes.” Lin Yu’an smiled gently.

”The second floor needs three moderately-sized bedrooms, one for my son Ethan, and one for my daughter Olivia.”

”The remaining room is a guest room, prepared for family and friends who may visit in the future.”

”The third floor is the attic. When the kids grow up, it will be their secret playroom, as every child dreams of having their own secret attic during childhood.”

Pointing to the detailed plan, his tone was filled with determination and anticipation.

”This is currently my goal, a home that can shelter my family from the elements, withstand the harshness of Alaska, and be passed down here!”

”As for the garage, tool shed, and utility rooms, those will be planned after the main house is built or during construction.”

David and Mike listened quietly, completely absorbed in the ”home building plan” drawn out by Lin Yu’an.
