King of the Wilderness

”Lin, actually, the hard drive contains more than just Bitcoin.”

Lin Yu’an’s gaze was drawn to her words, and he looked at Emily, waiting for her to continue.

”There’s also a map.” Emily exhaled a light blue smoke ring, her gaze becoming distant.

”An encrypted map. I can’t fully decipher it, but I know the final destination on the map must be near Wiseman. Behind it, there should be a gold mine.”

”Gold mine?” Lin Yu’an frowned.

The word, on the land of Alaska, is always filled with legends of bloodshed and wealth.

Emily continued: ”Yes, it was discovered by my ex-boyfriend’s father during the Alaskan gold rush. It’s said to be a rich placer mine with a very high gold content.”

”After his father passed away, he has been preparing to mine this gold mine, coming to Alaska for reconnaissance more than once. He even brought in that guy you killed as a partner, planning to mine it together.”

”Initially, investing in Bitcoin was to avoid taxes and fund early stage equipment. Unexpectedly, Bitcoin skyrocketed, and their thoughts changed, from cooperation to mutual suspicion.”

”One wanted to sell Bitcoin to buy mining equipment, the other wanted to keep investing... you know what happened after that.”

She stubbed out the cigarette: ”The reason I’ve been staying in Wiseman, ostensibly running a veterinary clinic, is actually to continue searching for that gold mine.”

Lin Yu’an felt somewhat absurd after hearing all this.

Bitcoin, gold mine, murder, treasure hunt... He seriously suspected that he had been reborn into a parallel world and accidentally triggered some melodramatic American TV drama plot.

The whole event, from start to finish, was filled with an unbelievable air, but upon closer thought, there was damnable logic to it.

”Have you found any clues after all this time?” Lin Yu’an asked.

”Nothing at all.” Emily shook her head helplessly.

”I’ve been trying to crack the map, but I can’t. I don’t dare to find a cryptographic expert, so I can only keep searching around Wiseman.”

”The only clue now is a selfie photo from my ex-boyfriend. The background must be near the gold mine!”

Lin Yu’an decided to set aside these complicated matters for the time being.

”Alright, let’s talk about this later.”

He looked at Emily, his expression turning solemn and serious: ”Now, we need to talk about our relationship.”

He said earnestly, ”Emily, I’m married and have two newborn children.”

”So, everything that happened last night was just an accident, a means to solve a problem.”

Emily, upon hearing this, unexpectedly laughed, her laughter full of charm.

”Don’t worry, Lin.”

She stretched lazily, showing off her perfect curves without a care.

”I wasn’t planning on having a romance with you. I’m just a lover controlled by your secret, unable to betray you. My only goal now is to find that gold mine!”

”To achieve true financial freedom! By then, maybe I’ll be the one using money to break free from your threat and control.”

Her words were half-joking, half-serious.

Lin Yu’an immediately understood what she meant.

Between them, they were secret lovers, a bond tied together by a murder case, or rather, ”partners in crime.”

Lin Yu’an secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He liked dealing with intelligent women.

He then threw out a decision that shocked Emily even more.

”Alright, then I need to introduce you to my wife.”

”WTF? Are you crazy?” Emily was completely stunned. She sat up from the bed, looking at Lin Yu’an in disbelief.

”You want to introduce your... accomplice lover to your wife? What are you thinking?”

Lin Yu’an’s expression was unusually calm: ”Calm down, Emily. My wife grew up in a Mormon family. Her values are completely different from the secular ones we understand.”

He looked into Emily’s eyes and said seriously: ”I don’t want to have any lies or secrets from her. Instead of letting you be a hidden accomplice lover, I’d rather put everything on the table.”

”I believe my wife has enough rationality and tolerance to understand and handle all this! This is the best way to avoid greater misunderstandings and troubles in the future.”

Emily looked into Lin Yu’an’s honest eyes and fell into a long silence.

After thinking for a long time, she finally nodded.

”Alright, Lin. You really are a madman.”

She laughed self-deprecatingly: ”But, I don’t seem to dislike your crazy plan. At least, I don’t have to be the kind of bitch that ruins someone else’s family, right?”

This definition brought a peculiar sensation to Emily’s heart once again.

”Alright, I have to go.”

Lin Yu’an glanced out the window. The midnight sun had already risen high, and he knew he had wasted too much work time.

He put on a field jacket, ready to leave.

”Leaving just like that?” Emily’s voice carried a hint of indiscernible laziness and reluctance.

”I have over a hundred logs waiting for me to process, and a home to build.”

Lin Yu’an’s response was calm. He walked to the door, turned back to Emily, and said, ”For the next few days, live as usual, don’t act out of the ordinary. If anything happens, contact me immediately, you know the number.”

Emily didn’t say anything more. She just walked barefoot from the bed to stand in front of him.

She reached out her arms, wrapped them around his neck, stood on her tiptoes, and placed a gentle, lingering kiss on his lips with a faint scent of coffee.

This kiss no longer held the tentative and transactional vibe of last night but had a touch of a woman’s yearning for a man.

At the end of the kiss, she whispered in a voice full of allure, audible only to them:

”I hope... to see you in this bed again tonight.”

Lin Yu’an’s body stiffened once more. The desire he had just suppressed was rekindled by her simple words.

He could clearly feel the softness and warmth of the body in his arms.

He took a deep breath, using his strong willpower to forcibly dispel the amorous images from his mind.

Lin Yu’an felt like this woman had issues, her mental state seemed a bit abnormal, reminiscent of a kind of Stockholm syndrome, where a kidnapped person becomes dependent on their captor.

He gently pushed Emily away, his gaze clearing up.

”We’ll see how it goes. I have a lot of work to do.” He merely repeated this sentence, then resolutely turned, opened the door, and walked out briskly.

Listening to the footsteps outside the door, Emily looked at her empty hands and a meaningful smile appeared again on her lips.

This man, like the most untamed wild horse, but she seemed to have found the reins to hold him.

Chinese internet really has things Google can’t find! What a treasure this so-called Love Lily website is!

Lin Yu’an, at this moment, was unaware of the strange website Emily had discovered. He hurried out of the cabin, his slightly overheated mind gradually calming down.

”Vroom——!”

Accompanied by the familiar roar of the engine, he drove the Zongshen Tricycle, racing toward his own Wood Forest Land.
