King of the Wilderness

With the help of the water flow, the dust that should have been scattered turned into streams of gray sludge, flowing down the pile columns.

Lin Yu’an focused intently, first cutting a deep ring groove over ten centimeters deep along the Red Line around the pile column.

Once the groove was cut, Old George took out a high-powered electric pick from his toolbox.

”Da da da da da——!”

Along with a series of dense, powerful impacts, big chunks of concrete were easily chiseled away, exposing the internal rebar cage.

Finally, Lin Yu’an took out his own small angle grinder, swapped in a grinding disc, and performed final fine grinding on the rough surface until the cut surface of the entire pile top became smooth and flat.

Once all twenty-one pile tops were processed, Old George pulled out a 1.2-meter-long German Stabila high precision level to perform the final inspection between any two pile tops.

When he saw that the bubble on the level stayed perfectly between the center marks no matter where he placed it, he let out a satisfied exclamation.

”Beautiful! Guys, it’s flat!”

The leveling job was perfectly wrapped up, and next was the installation of the twenty-one ”steel thrones” on these solid concrete foundations.

Old George opened a heavy wooden crate from the delivered materials, revealing neatly placed galvanized steel pile top brackets inside.

”Lin, these little things look really sturdy.” David came forward, picked one up and found it was much heavier than it looked.

Old George explained from the side, ”Of course, it’s called hot-dip galvanizing, ensuring it won’t rust for a hundred years in Alaska’s humid summers and frozen winters.”

”It’s the ’buffer zone’ between wood and concrete, preventing underground moisture from passing through the concrete to the wooden beams, causing the wood to mold and rot.”

”Alright, Lin, it’s time for your impact drill performance.” Old George said.

Lin Yu’an fitted a high-powered Bosch impact drill with a 20mm diameter, four-flute carbide bit specifically for drilling concrete.

”Tup tup tup tup——”

Amid strong and powerful impact sounds, the hard concrete was swiftly crushed under the carbide drill bit.

Lin Yu’an’s body slightly vibrated with the rhythm of the impact drill, but he maintained a very stable stance, always keeping the drill bit perfectly vertical.

Stan held a tape measure, constantly measuring the depth of the holes.

”Done! Fifteen centimeters! That’s enough!”

When Stan issued the command, Lin Yu’an immediately stopped.

Next was Old George’s turn for anchor planting.

First, he took out a high-pressure air gun, extended the long nozzle into the bottom of the hole, and blew a few times forcefully to clear out the dust.

After confirming the hole was clean, he aimed what looked like a giant syringe - an anchor adhesive gun - at the hole until it filled two-thirds of it.

Then, he slowly inserted an M20 spec L-shaped anchor bolt into the adhesive-filled hole with a rotating motion until reaching the predetermined depth.

”Once this structural adhesive is completely cured, it will chemically bond the rod to the entire concrete pile.”

In the following days.

They worked collaboratively, with Lin Yu’an responsible for drilling, Stan for cleaning the holes, Old George for adhesive injection and bolt placement, the assembly line-like operation greatly improved efficiency.

When the anchoring adhesive reached preliminary curing strength, they prepared for final installation.

Needing more manpower, Lin Yu’an readily invited Barton and Cody to help, and they all placed the saddle-shaped heavy steel brackets on the firmly ’rooted’ bolts and fit large washers.

Then, they started tightening the nuts with a torque wrench set to a specific torque.

”Alright, set it to 300 Newton meters.” Old George said to Lin Yu’an.

When the wrench emitted a clear ”click,” it meant the nut had been tightened to the preset perfect torque.

They installed each of the twenty-one steel thrones in the same manner.

When the last nut was tightened, twenty-one gleaming steel brackets stood neatly on the twenty-one gray concrete foundations.

”Perfect!” Old George looked at his craftsmanship, happily clapping his hands.

”Now, Lin, you have a base that can last a hundred years. Next, tomorrow we’ll showcase those big boys!”

Old George’s gaze shifted to the nearby mountain of lumber materials.
