Chapter 115: Chapter 109: Officer Kage’s Visit (Part 2)

Lin Yu’an jumped into the cab, living up to the title of mechanical engineering bachelor, and he could skillfully perform pre-start checks before turning the key to ignite.

”Boom—Vroom—Vroom—”

Accompanied by a deep and powerful engine roar, this domestic beast woke for the first time in a foreign land!

”In Alaska, time is the most precious resource, I’m not planning to clean by hand,” Lin Yu’an’s voice came from the cab.

He drove this loader, officially starting the clearing work.

The small body shuttled flexibly between the forests, with each rise and fall of the bucket precise and efficient. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Thick snow, low shrubs, scattered stones, were all cleaned up one by one.

David and Mike dutifully carried machines, recording from different angles the picture full of a sense of power and industrial beauty.

Sunlight passed through sparse trees, shining on the yellow machine and the flying snow foam, composing a scene of humans and machinery conquering nature.

The sound of machinery roared far in the silent river valley, inevitably attracting the attention of local residents.

At noon, just as Lin Yu’an was working ardently, the engine sound of a snowmobile approached from afar.

Lin Yu’an immediately stopped the loader, looking warily in the direction of the sound.

Soon, a police-painted snowmobile appeared in their sight.

The driver wore a police uniform and helmet, but from his tall and burly figure, Lin Yu’an immediately thought of the name Stan mentioned.

The snowmobile stopped about ten meters away from them.

The driver took off his helmet, revealing a face with distinct facial features, unsmiling, his eyes sharp, sizing up Lin Yu’an.

His gaze finally fell on the yellow Xu Gong loader.

”I’m Kage, a police officer from Wiseman Town, heard the noise, came to take a look.” His voice was deep and authoritative.

This opening was direct and pragmatic, full of frontier law enforcement style, without pleasantries, only confirmation of the event.

”Hello, Officer Kage.”

Lin Yu’an jumped off the loader, took a step forward, his face showing no tension.

”I’m Lin Yu’an, you can also call me Herman, I’m the new owner of this land.”

Lin Yu’an took off his gloves, extending his right hand.

Kage scrutinized him for a moment, then took off his gloves and firmly shook hands with him: ”I heard Stan mention you, you’re the Chinese guy?”

”Yes.”

”Is this your land?” Kage pointed to the wooden stakes marking the foundation.

”That’s right, it’s our family’s land, the paperwork has been completed, this is the intentional agreement of the land deed.”

Lin Yu’an took out a folded copy of the document from his backpack and handed it over.

Kage took it, quickly browsed through, confirmed the plot number and Aliya’s name, then nodded and returned the document to him.

His expression softened a bit, but remained serious.

”Looks like you’re preparing to do something big.”

Kage glanced at the loader: ”Nice machine, rented from Fairbanks?”

”No, this is my own equipment,” Lin Yu’an replied.

Kage’s eyebrows raised a bit, clearly a little surprised.

He once again surveyed the unfamiliar machine, and the pile of supplies from China next to it, forming a new assessment of Lin Yu’an’s capabilities.

Lin Yu’an didn’t offer further explanations, but extended an invitation: ”It’s cold weather, Officer Kage, would you like to have a cup of hot coffee at my campsite? It’s right over there.”

Kage hesitated for a moment, but he was full of curiosity about this young man that Stan regarded highly.

”Alright.” He nodded.

In the warm tent, when Kage saw the giant cast iron stove burning, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.

He accepted the hot coffee handed by Lin Yu’an, warming his hands.

”I heard from Stan you’re planning to settle down here?” Kage asked directly.

”Yes, with my wife and two newborn children,” Lin Yu’an answered just as directly.

He handed over the architectural design drawings to Kage.

Kage looked at the renderings on the drawings, and the clear layout and planning, remaining silent for a long time.

He could see this wasn’t a whim, but a thoughtfully considered, long-term settlement plan.

”Not a bad plan.”

Kage put down the notebook, took a sip of coffee.

”But this land won’t be polite to you just because your plan is thorough, when you build such a large stone chimney, be careful when sourcing stone, some river sections are protected areas.”

”Thanks for the reminder, Officer Kage.”

Lin Yu’an answered earnestly: ”I’ve studied local regulations, I intend to mine from the eastern mountainside of my land.”

”The rock there is gneiss, hard in texture, very suitable for building materials. This is within my land’s property rights, it’s legal.”

Kage was satisfied with Lin Yu’an’s answer, this young man not only had capability, but also awareness of rules and laws, which was especially valuable in frontier areas.

He asked a few more questions about waste disposal and hunting licenses, and after receiving satisfactory responses, he got up to leave.

”Welcome to Wiseman.” Kage extended his hand, once again shaking hands with Lin Yu’an.

”If you need help, you can come to town to find me. Don’t be polite, here, neighbors are meant to help each other.”

After seeing Kage off, the sunset’s glow dyed the snowfield golden.

After a day’s effort, the land originally covered in ice and snow had a large, clear flat area.

David stepped forward, today’s experiences had deeply moved him: ”Lin, I feel in Wiseman, the way people interact is special, direct, but full of meaning.”

”Yes.” Lin Yu’an nodded.

”Everyone here has to rely on themselves to survive, so what people respect is strength and action, not empty talk.”

”But at the same time, people need to rely on each other to live better, so rules and community identity are more important than anywhere else.”

David looked at the scene before him, timely raising the next question.

”Lin, the foundation is cleared, next step is logging, right? To build such a big house, how many logs of sufficient diameter do you need? This sounds like an even larger project.”

Lin Yu’an’s gaze turned to the endless spruce forest, his lips slightly curled up.

”That’s right, but fortunately, my land has enough hundred-year-old spruce trees.”

”I also have some research on logging, so this big project should be relatively easy.”

The next morning, the air was a bit warmer than yesterday.

Before engaging in any physical activity, Lin Yu’an didn’t rush to pick up the chainsaw, but returned to the warm tent, taking out his notebook and pencil.

”Before starting a huge project, a clear quantitative plan is necessary.”

Lin Yu’an spoke to the camera, and also to the curious-faced David: ”This allows me to clarify my daily goals and have a direct understanding of the difficulty of this work.”

”According to my precise calculations last night, to build the wooden house we planned yesterday.”

”Consider the waste in actual construction, redundancy in wood selection, and materials for internal partition walls, about 120 trees are needed.”

”Among them, the wall raw logs are the largest portion, roughly requiring seventy standard spruce trees with a diameter of around 30 centimeters.”

”Next, the floor beams of the second floor and the roof rafters require about forty straighter, but slightly thinner diameter logs.”

”Finally, the most crucial part is the core structure wood, including the eight giant columns supporting the porch and balcony, and the ridge beam serving as the roof ’Dragon Bone’.”

”This part requires us to find at least ten giant trees over a hundred years old in the forest to meet.”
