This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng was immediately amused by Wei Kaida’s strange way of thinking. ”Not to criticize you, but what kind of structure is in your brain? I mean, my Teacher isn’t just taking advantage like you said; he makes efforts too. How can you have such a wild imagination? Besides, if I didn’t think you were helpful to Xiao Yi, why would I have sent him to you in the first place? Seriously, it’s absurd.”

After saying that, Du Heng shouted loudly, ”Du Yi, come down! Let’s go home.”

A few seconds later, Du Yi ran down, quickly standing beside Du Heng.

Du Heng took Du Yi’s hand and whispered to him, ”Say goodbye to your Master. We’re going home now.”

”Goodbye, Master.”

Wei Kaida was all smiles. He patted Du Yi’s head and said, ”School will start very soon. You don’t have to come here anymore starting tomorrow. Be obedient to the Adults at home and study hard at School. When the holidays come, Master will come to your house to pick you up, okay?”

Du Yi nodded obediently, but judging by his pouting mouth, he didn’t seem too happy. The two adults, however, didn’t seem to care what he was unhappy about.

Du Heng looked at Wei Kaida once again. ”Wei, last time I’m asking, are you joining me for a big meal or not?”

Wei Kaida still firmly shook his head. ”No.”

”Then I’m leaving.”

”Get lost, don’t interfere with my business.”

Du Heng glared at Wei Kaida in annoyance, then led Du Yi out. ”You shouldn’t have been born in the Year of the Horse. The Year of the Dog would have suited you better.”

Since Wei Kaida didn’t want to go for the meal, Du Heng didn’t see the need to eat out either. He made a phone call to cancel the reservation and then took Du Yi home.

「The next morning」

Du Heng didn’t go straight to the Gynecology Department. Instead, he first sat in his office to deal with some matters, with Kang Zhirong by his side helping him organize things.

”By the way, Xiao Kang, what happened with that Child and his father from yesterday?”

Kang Zhirong placed the materials he had sorted onto a corner of the table and continued organizing other items. Hearing Du Heng’s question, he answered, ”The Police took them away.”

”Didn’t they let him take the Child back?”

”No. There are still some procedures to handle with Civil Affairs and the welfare institution. They should be able to take him back today.”

Du Heng nodded slightly. ”It’s good that the Child can be taken back. Although life may be a bit harder at home, having his father’s company will be better for his emotional and character development than being in a welfare institution.”

Kang Zhirong also agreed. ”Abandonment and orphan... those aren’t good words.

”If that Child’s father hadn’t shown up yesterday, he would have to carry those heart-piercing words for the rest of his life.

”When he grows up a bit, I don’t know how much negative emotion he’ll have to bear. Sigh.”

Du Heng quickly finished the work he was doing and, capping his pen, said, ”But things are a little better now, aren’t they?”

After quickly tidying the things on his desk, Du Heng asked Kang Zhirong, ”Did Director Gao phone you this morning?”

”He phoned just as I arrived,” Kang Zhirong answered without hesitation. ”Director Gao said the appointment with the Patient is at 10:30.”

Du Heng glanced at the time. ”Ah, the timing is just right.” He looked at Kang Zhirong, smiled, and said, ”Then I’ll leave these things to you, Xiao Kang. Please help me tidy up here; I’m going over to Director Gao’s now.”

When Du Heng arrived at Gao Qin’s office, she was slowly looking through several examination reports. After showing Du Heng to a seat, Gao Qin handed him the reports she was holding.

As Du Heng took them, he asked softly, ”What are the results?”

Gao Qin shook her head. ”No surprises for the man. He’s diagnosed with first stage syphilis. Chancre and other symptoms are very obvious. He has already developed damage to his skin and mucous membranes and is suffering from syphilitic rhinitis.”

This result was similar to what he had diagnosed yesterday. Du Heng saw that the first page in his hand was the man’s report. He nodded lightly before continuing to examine the contents. ”And the woman?”

”Unfortunately, she’s also been diagnosed,” Gao Qin sighed, her expression full of regret. ”After the woman came in yesterday, a physical examination was performed, but no symptoms of the disease were found.

”So, I had her undergo a non-treponema pallidum serum test and a syphilis serology test, then sent them directly to the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital’s laboratory. The reports were only collected half an hour ago. One test was positive, and the other found antibodies in her system.

”Thus, the woman is also 100% confirmed.

”However, the good news is that it was discovered early, without causing damage to her skin or appearance, and the prognosis for treatment is good.”

Just as Du Heng was about to speak, the office door was pushed open. The man and the woman from last night entered, both dressed identically. They were wearing sunglasses, masks, and long-sleeved shirts and pants.

”Doctor Du, we saw you just now and hurried over,” the woman said, her voice anxious. ”Doctor Du, are my test results out? Am I not infected?”

Du Heng gestured for the couple not to panic and to sit down so they could talk slowly. ”Let’s start with this gentleman, Mr. Yu Zhiwei.”

Then, Du Heng looked at the man. ”As expected, you’ve been diagnosed. First stage syphilis.

”This is your examination report. Take a look.”

Yu Zhiwei took off his sunglasses. Although the diagnosis was confirmed yesterday, he had still clung to a sliver of hope that Du Heng’s examination had been incorrect before receiving the report. But now, seeing the examination report and having it confirmed again, he couldn’t help but sigh as he slowly reached out to take the report.

The woman looked nervously at Du Heng, her hands clasped tightly together, twisting the strap of her bag, hoping Du Heng would tell her she was fine.

But Du Heng glanced down at the examination report in his hand, saw the positive result, and finally looked up at the woman. ”Ms. Qi Xiaoqing, you’ve also been diagnosed.”

The woman seemed utterly unconvinced by this result. Her reaction was completely different from the man’s calm acceptance; she shot to her feet, staring at Du Heng with disbelief. Her tone was heavy with suspicion. ”That’s impossible! You must have made a mistake. Look at me! I’ve had no issues at all until now. You must have made a mistake!”

Du Heng shook his head gently. ”Ms. Qi, please don’t be agitated. Sit down first, and I’ll explain.”

Perhaps it was Du Heng’s calm demeanor that influenced Qi Xiaoqing, or perhaps, deep down, she already believed the result. After Du Heng finished speaking slowly, she took a deep breath and sat back down.

Once the woman had settled down, Du Heng said slowly, ”We were also concerned about making a mistake, so we conducted two tests on you: one was a virus carrying experiment, and the other was an antibody test.

”The virus carrying experiment was positive, indicating that the syphilis Virus is already present in your body. The syphilis antibody test also detected treponema pallidum antibodies in your system.

”Therefore, I can now definitively tell you that you have also been infected.”

Seeing the woman’s changing expression, Du Heng took a breath and continued, ”As for why you haven’t shown obvious symptoms, it’s mainly because Mr. Yu’s physical condition has deteriorated significantly. His body’s resistance is too weak, and the disease progressed quickly in him. You were subconsciously comparing yourself to Mr. Yu, which is why you felt you were fine.

”Secondly, the Bayberry virus has an incubation period. In extremely rare cases, it may not show any obvious symptoms. Externally, you would appear to be a perfectly normal person.

”This is the most dangerous aspect because its latency is so high. By the time obvious symptoms appear, it might already be in the third stage, which is generally considered the late stage.

”At that point, multiple systems and visceral organs in the body will be damaged, directly threatening your life.”

The woman fell silent. She couldn’t understand how she could have contracted such a disease. She was just having an affair; she didn’t consider herself a very promiscuous person.
