This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Now that there’s this additional treatment group in the Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, it looks a bit out of place. We need to speed things up.”

Qiu Pingzhen nodded. ”We have already allocated the money. As soon as the stroke team moves, our side can fully take over.”

”That’s good.”

Qiu Pingzhen hesitated and said, ”Dean, I have an idea. I wonder if the hospital can agree to it.”

Du Heng raised his head slightly, looking seriously at Qiu Pingzhen. ”Go ahead,” he said.

”I was thinking that since the stroke team is moving to the Health Clinic, I want to use the remaining money to set up the Stroke Rehabilitation Center.” After saying this, Qiu Pingzhen cautiously looked at Du Heng.

Du Heng’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, and he became silent.

After a long pause, he said, ”This money was recovered by you from the district bureau. In theory, even the hospital should not have any say in how it is spent. Moreover, your idea indeed complements the subsequent treatment of the stroke team very well.”

As soon as Du Heng finished, Qiu Pingzhen knew the word ”but” was coming. The implication was clear, and his expression dimmed instantly.

”But the thing is, rehabilitation therapy is a very complicated matter, based on my recent understanding,” Du Heng said seriously to Qiu Pingzhen. ”It seems to have a low threshold, as if setting up two handrails and having two doctors in relevant fields are enough to call it rehabilitation therapy. However, if you look carefully, you will find that to do a good job in this rehabilitation therapy, it involves numerous disciplines such as Neurology, Psychology, and Human Kinetics. So, if we really want to do a good job in this area, the investment won’t be small.”

Before Qiu Pingzhen left, the Hospital Office had already begun working on the Rehabilitation Center, but he wasn’t clear about the specific details.

After a brief pause, Du Heng continued, ”Moreover, for some patients, rehabilitation therapy doesn’t require hospitalization. They only need regular rehabilitation guidance and training. But the location of our Health Clinic is really inconvenient. Even if we have the advantage of a stroke treatment team in the future, I still think it’s unrealistic to develop a Rehabilitation Center. Not many people would travel far into the mountain gullies for a service that others can provide just as well, if not better.”

Du Heng spoke slowly but earnestly, and his words made Qiu Pingzhen feel depressed.

”My suggestion for the Health Clinic is this: don’t try to create high-end, difficult departments and projects. Just focus on serving the villagers in our jurisdiction and improving basic medical projects. We should be steady and solid, laying a strong foundation and having one or two advantageous specialties. This will allow the Health Clinic to fulfill its mission while also developing steadily. That’s enough.”

Du Heng looked at Qiu Pingzhen seriously and said, ”What we need to do first is satisfy the 20,000 residents in our jurisdiction and avoid causing trouble for the district bureau or the neighboring Township Government. Then, on that basis, we will consider how to develop the Health Clinic.”

Qiu Pingzhen had high ambitions and had conceived of a project he believed was excellent. Being so explicitly rejected by Du Heng left him feeling somewhat downcast, but he could only nod in agreement.

Du Heng sighed softly. ”To be honest, it’s not easy for Zhonghu Health Center to develop. Its geographical location is too remote, almost twenty minutes away from the downtown area. Without an extraordinary opportunity or specific conditions, for Zhonghu Health Center to develop would be like a pipe dream.”

”So, the current main idea of our Hospital Committee has two parts. First, to ensure the Health Clinic can smoothly complete its mission. Second, to turn the Health Clinic into a Specialized Hospital with unique features. And this feature, which we have tentatively designated as a project, is stroke treatment.”

Qiu Pingzhen took a long breath and slowly exhaled, looking at Du Heng and nodding seriously. ”I understand, Dean.”

Seeing Qiu Pingzhen’s somewhat gloomy mood, Du Heng wasn’t sure what else to say, so he continued with his line of reasoning to guide him, ”Achieving success across the board is indeed good, but we have to consider the Health Clinic’s actual situation: its poor location, shortage of funds, and low medical care levels. These issues are key factors restricting the Health Clinic’s development. If we blindly push forward too quickly, we might end up dragging down our institution just as it’s starting to improve. Instead, we should focus on one thing. Given our current situation, let’s work hard to thoroughly understand and master the treatment of stroke.”

At this point, Du Heng hesitated for a moment, glanced at Qiu Pingzhen, and then said softly, ”The Vice Dean of the Hospital Office will retire in a year or two. Secretary Huang has been around for a while, and with the establishment of the stroke team and the pediatric cerebral hypoplasia project, he probably won’t stay too long either. So, as long as the Health Clinic can smoothly navigate this transition and securely take over the stroke treatment team, that will be your achievement. Once those two leave, there will always be a position reserved for you. Don’t be impatient; be steady. As long as you don’t make mistakes, it’s a victory for you.”

Qiu Pingzhen’s eyes widened slightly as he looked at Du Heng.

Seeing the change in Qiu Pingzhen’s eyes, Du Heng smiled gently. ”During this time, communicate more with Secretary Lu. He’s a very experienced and mature man.”

Qiu Pingzhen nodded gently. ”I deeply appreciate that. My exchanges with the Old Secretary have benefited me immensely.”

”Well, you know about Secretary Lu’s health condition, and he’s also getting older. If there are no major accidents, he should retire after the New Year’s celebration next year. Then, the Secretary position will not be filled by a replacement. You’ll have to shoulder the responsibility, so be more attentive.”

”I understand.”

Du Heng glanced at his watch and then said, ”And Yu, who has a master’s degree. That’s a rare talent in a small hospital like the Health Clinic. Take good care of him.”

After he finished speaking, without waiting for Qiu Pingzhen to respond, Du Heng stood up. ”It’s about time. I won’t chat any longer. I have to go next door. Just call me if you need anything.”

Qiu Pingzhen quickly nodded and accompanied Du Heng out of the Health Clinic.

When they reached the entrance, Du Heng told Qiu Pingzhen to go back. He then strolled alone, hands clasped behind his back, into the neighboring Township Government courtyard. After inquiring at the entrance and learning that Dong Yuezhang was already in his office, Du Heng headed straight there. The security guard at the entrance recognized Du Heng and didn’t ask any questions.

When Du Heng arrived at Dong Yuezhang’s office, he found many people inside, including the Deputy Mayor and the Office Director. Liao Quansheng was also present.

However, Dong Yuezhang and the others in the office were discussing matters with serious expressions, while Liao Quansheng sat nonchalantly on the sofa near the door, legs crossed, looking bored.

”Du, you’re just in time.” Seeing Du Heng approach from the window, Dong Yuezhang didn’t even get up, just waved for Du Heng to come in. ”Find a place to sit. I need your advice on something.”

Du Heng looked around the room and immediately felt reluctant to enter. ”Perhaps I shouldn’t come in now,” he demurred. ”You’re in a meeting. I’ll come in after you’re finished.”

As soon as Du Heng finished speaking, Liao Quansheng, who was sitting nearby, suddenly stood up. ”You all carry on. I’ll go outside with Du for a smoke. Call me when you’ve reached a decision.”

With that, he hurried out of the office, pulling Du Heng’s arm and heading downstairs.

”What are you all up to? And why did you call me over this morning?” Du Heng asked, looking baffled as he followed Liao Quansheng down the stairs, voicing the questions on his mind.
