This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Ge Long ignored Li Jianwei’s question, a smile still on his face as he asked, ”Oh, so President Du treats you, his teacher, quite well then.”

Li Jianwei glanced sideways at Ge Long. ”What do you mean?”

”Nothing much, just a comment.” Ge Long patted Li Jianwei’s shoulder. ”How’s the child’s recovery going?”

Li Jianwei tut-tutted, looking Ge Long up and down. He seemed to be getting an inkling of what this old boy was up to.

In an instant, the smile that had just faded from his face returned, creeping back to the corners of his mouth and eyes. ”Not bad at all. The day before yesterday, we received news that the child could already sit up by himself and was eating almost like a normal child.”

”I didn’t get an update yesterday, and today I’m in a meeting, so I haven’t had a chance to ask yet.”

Ge Long’s eyes lit up, and he quickly moved closer to Li Jianwei. ”Li, you should ask quickly. How is the child today?”

Li Jianwei looked back at the conference room and responded somewhat hesitantly, ”That doesn’t seem right. We’re on a ten-minute break, and we have to continue the meeting afterward.”

Ge Long quickly replied, ”It’s fine. They always say ten minutes, but when is it ever less than half an hour? Look at those old experts; they’re so old they can’t even make it out of the restroom in ten minutes.”

Li Jianwei’s face immediately turned stern. ”Ge, those old experts may be old and have prostate problems, but you can’t talk about them like that. It’s disrespectful.”

”You’re too much,” Ge Long said, giving Li Jianwei an exasperated push. ”Come on, help me ask President Du how the child is doing today.”

Li Jianwei groaned softly, dithering and clearly reluctant to make the call. Watching him, Ge Long grew quite exasperated. Ultimately, he had no choice but to say, ”Today, during the nominations, I’ll definitely vote for President Du.”

Upon hearing this, Li Jianwei immediately stopped dawdling. While dialing, he feigned objection, ”Now, how could I accept that? We must remain objective.”

Ge Long rolled his eyes at this, but since he was the one asking for a favor, rolling his eyes was all he could do.

”Xiao Heng, what are you busy with?” Once the call connected, Li Jianwei started with a greeting.

Upon hearing Li Jianwei’s voice, Du Heng quickly replied, ”Teacher,” and then said, ”I’m chatting with the child.”

”Oh.” Li Jianwei chuckled lightly. ”By the way, you didn’t send an update yesterday. How’s the child’s recovery coming along?”

”Recovery is going very well.” Du Heng’s voice came over the phone, light and relaxed. ”Starting this morning, the child’s dizziness has basically disappeared, and his overall mental state is excellent.”

”Before his afternoon nap, he even got out of bed, went for a walk, and played with our nurse for a bit.”

Du Heng paused for a moment before adding, ”The child’s tongue coating has changed color; it’s no longer a purplish color, and his tongue is now covered with a thin, white coating. More importantly, the child’s stomach qi has basically returned to normal. Overall, the prognosis is very good.”

”That’s great, that’s great!” Li Jianwei had the call on speaker so Ge Long could hear clearly. Hearing such good news, the smug satisfaction on his face grew even more pronounced. ”So, what’s your treatment plan for the next stage?”

”In the initial stage of this disease, the pathogenic poison is rampant. It permeates the exterior, interior, and the triple burner, entering the ying level and disturbing the blood. However, after this period of treatment, the child’s original yang has stabilized. I plan to add some medicine to clear pestilence and counteract poison, to slowly recuperate the child’s body.”

”Excellent, that’s a very prudent approach.” Li Jianwei nodded approvingly, affirming Du Heng’s ideas. ”This child’s constitution is inherently weak, so we must proceed cautiously. Take it slow, and definitely don’t rush to use strong medicine.”

Listening to Li Jianwei’s instructions, Du Heng kept murmuring his assent, showing ample respect.

Li Jianwei smiled, thoroughly pleased. He glanced proudly at Ge Long before saying softly, ”Alright then, you get back to your work. Send me daily updates on the subsequent treatment; I’ll help you review them.”

”Okay, Teacher. After work today, I’ll send you details of today’s medication and the child’s condition. Please help me review it.”

”Haha, alright. You get back to your work; I need to return to my meeting.”

”Goodbye, Teacher.”

Hanging up the phone, Li Jianwei looked at Ge Long, his eyes crinkling with a smile. ”Well, Ge, was that call to your satisfaction?”

Ge Long also nodded. ”Li, I’d like to discuss something with you.”

”Go ahead.”

”Could you also forward the materials President Du sends you to me? So we can take a look as well,” Ge Long said, his tone serious and markedly different from their earlier light-hearted chat. ”You know, in our Hematology Department, we have many children and adults like this. Some families are on the verge of being ruined by the high medical costs.”

Li Jianwei hesitated. The smile vanished from his face, replaced by a much more serious expression. He drew a slow breath. ”Ge, it’s not that I don’t want to give them to you. It’s just that, even if I gave you these materials, would you even understand them?”

Ge Long pressed his lips together. ”As you know, our Deputy Director Cai is also an expert in the integration of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. He has done some research on using traditional Chinese medicine treatment for leukemia.”

”I might not understand these materials, but our Director Cai certainly would.”
