This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

This situation continued until nearly the end of the workday when it was interrupted by a sudden phone call from Wu Shengnan.

However, after answering, Wu Shengnan only said he didn’t need to wait for her for dinner, then hurriedly hung up. This left Du Heng with no desire to work anymore.

Checking the time, the child had already been on medication for two hours. Du Heng decided to stop working and check on the child’s condition.

”Dean.”

”Uncle Du.”

”Mr. Du.”

When Du Heng appeared in the hospital room again, Doctor Ma was still at the child’s bedside. Besides the nurse who was there initially, Du Xuejing and her classmate were also standing behind Doctor Ma.

Du Heng nodded gently in response to them, then softly asked Doctor Ma, ”How is the current situation?”

”The child’s heartbeat and pulse have come down. They’re still slightly higher than normal, but within an acceptable range,” Doctor Ma replied, glancing back at the monitor beside him. ”His body temperature is also approaching a normal value, currently at 37.8℃. Overall, he’s out of the critical phase.”

”That’s good.” Du Heng felt his tension ease slightly. ”The colleagues on night duty will have to manage this: extend the medication interval to every three hours. Once the child is fully awake, change it to every eight hours.”

Doctor Ma nodded, ”Alright, I will clearly communicate this to the colleagues on duty.”

After saying this, Doctor Ma immediately took a few inspection sheets from the bedside table and handed them to Du Heng. ”Dean, the child’s check-up results are out. Hemoglobin is five grams, white blood cells are 310,000. It’s confirmed leukemia, and he’s also severely anemic. I suspect the child might have received a blood transfusion before coming here.”

Du Heng took the inspection sheet and glanced at it. His nose twitched slightly, but his expression remained unchanged as he said, ”This is obvious. There’s no need to make a fuss.”

Du Heng spoke calmly, his expression serene even as he looked at the alarmingly high white blood cell count. Doctor Ma, however, was still agitated. ”We can manage the anemia, but the child’s white blood cell count is dangerously high. Should we consult the Internal Medicine Department about using other medications?”

Upon hearing this, Du Heng’s brows furrowed slightly, and he retorted, ”Aren’t we already treating him now?”

”But...”

Du Heng was about to speak harshly, but glancing at Du Xuejing and her classmate behind Doctor Ma, he swallowed his words and rephrased. ”This inspection sheet’s purpose is merely to provide us with detailed data about the child’s physical condition. For us, it’s only a reference; it absolutely cannot serve as the basis for our treatment. I’ve always emphasized that it doesn’t matter which treatment method you use, but you must not lose your own composure. The core philosophies of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine are completely different. You’re looking at a Western medicine inspection sheet but want to use traditional Chinese medicine treatment methods. That’s largely unworkable. Different philosophies mean different approaches and methods for medication. Especially with such critical illnesses, you either wholeheartedly follow the traditional Chinese medicine approach or resolutely use Western medicine’s treatment methods. Never think of mixing them. Unless you understand, like the back of your hand, all the body’s reactions when a patient takes both Chinese herbal medicine and Western medicine, and you also fully comprehend all potential chemical reactions between these two types of drugs, only then could you even consider attempting it.”

Du Heng stopped abruptly, feeling he might have spoken too harshly. After a slight pause, he continued, ”The child is already improving. There’s no need to create new complications. If you’re still worried, you can perform another check-up on the child now to see if these values have changed.”

Du Heng was annoyed by Doctor Ma’s question. This annoyance made his already injured waist feel even more strained. Frowning slightly, he added, ”I’m not feeling well right now. I’ll entrust the child’s care to you. I’m going to take these two home first.”

Hearing Du Heng’s lengthy explanation, Doctor Ma realized he had been frightened by the lab values and had repeated his old mistake of trying to apply Western medical thinking to traditional Chinese medicine treatment. He couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret. When he heard Du Heng was leaving, he quickly said, ”Alright, Dean. I’ll keep an eye on things here and ensure all necessary information is passed on. You can rest assured.”

Du Heng nodded gently, then gestured for Du Xuejing and her classmate to leave the room with him.

He had the two girls go to the rest room to get their belongings while he returned to his office for his own things. Then, they all gathered in the parking lot.

However, when they got into the car, Du Heng went straight to the passenger seat. Looking at the two girls, he said, ”You both have driver’s licenses, so decide between yourselves who will drive. I’ve been sitting all day, and my waist is a bit stiff and uncomfortable. I won’t drive.”

The two exchanged a look. Du Xuejing, in particular, was eager to try.

Since getting her license last summer vacation, she had only driven her father’s old, third-hand ’beloved car’ during school vacations. As for her Little Uncle’s car, she had never driven it before.

With her Little Uncle beside her today, she didn’t want to miss this opportunity. So, after just one look at her good friend, she immediately got into the driver’s seat.

Although the girl was a little nervous when she first got into the car, after driving for two or three minutes, she gradually became more confident.
