This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Inside the hospital room, Du Heng glanced at the pediatric patient on the bed. He quietly asked Doctor Ma, who had been standing by, ”Ma, how’s the situation now?”

Doctor Ma was holding a small spoon and, with a nurse’s help, was again gently trying to feed medication into the pediatric patient’s mouth. Hearing Du Heng, Doctor Ma whispered, ”This is the second dose. There hasn’t been much overall change, but the child’s heart rate and pulse have dropped a little.”

Du Heng’s gaze shifted back and forth between the monitor and the child several times. ”Monitor this child’s condition constantly. If anything seems wrong, notify me immediately. You also need to be ready to provide emergency treatment.”

The pediatric patient’s mouth was clamped shut, requiring considerable effort from Doctor Ma and the nurse each time they administered the medication. Doctor Ma, in particular, only gave a tiny amount of medicine with each spoonful, not a full one as Du Heng had previously instructed. He was afraid that giving too much might cause the child to choke. At this stage, every cough from the patient alarmed everyone; they were terrified a cough might lead to a hemorrhage, which would worsen the child’s condition and increase the danger. Thus, Doctor Ma always opted for the safest approach.

After slowly administering the spoonful of medicine, Doctor Ma finally responded to Du Heng. ”I’ve contacted the doctors from the Internal Medicine Department, and they’ve sent their most experienced Emergency Doctor.

”Our nurses have also borrowed the necessary emergency equipment. If anything goes wrong, we’ll begin resuscitation efforts immediately.”

Du Heng hummed softly in acknowledgment, exchanged a glance with Lu Guangying, and then slowly walked out of the hospital room.

”Dean, what do you think of the current situation?” Lu Guangying asked Du Heng as soon as they stepped out of the hospital room.

After a moment of contemplation, Du Heng said, ”The pediatric patient has just started the medication, so the effects aren’t very obvious yet. However, the child’s heart rate and pulse have dropped slightly compared to earlier, which is a good sign.”

At this, Du Heng sighed softly. ”Barring any unforeseen complications, I believe the child’s life has been temporarily saved.”

Lu Guangying also breathed a sigh of relief.

Even if Du Heng saved this child’s life, or even cured the child, it wouldn’t significantly boost the hospital’s reputation on its own. However, with this kind of disease record and experience, Du Heng would be a major force for the hospital whenever it encountered critically ill patients in the future. Such a change might not offer substantial short-term benefits to the hospital. But with Du Heng there, serving as a safety net for everyone, the hospital’s doctors, when faced with similar critical patients, would first think of resuscitation rather than immediate transfer. This shift in the doctors’ mentality and approach would be the best kind of help for the hospital; it would just take a little time.

Lu Guangying silently followed Du Heng, mulling over Du Heng’s words, the scene he had just witnessed, and how he would explain things to the people from the Children’s Welfare Department.

Just then, a call came from the office: the people from the Children’s Welfare Department had arrived.

Lu Guangying informed Du Heng of the situation and asked if he wanted to meet the staff member with him. Du Heng, however, felt it was unnecessary. It was just a procedural matter that Lu Guangying could handle alone. Du Heng could use the time to further consider the subsequent treatment plan.

This time, Du Heng didn’t go back to the Chinese Medicine Department’s office, instead slowly returning to his own.

He had just reached his office when Kang Zhirong walked in, mobile phone in hand, his expression grim.

Massaging his still aching lower back, Du Heng looked at the glum Kang Zhirong and asked curiously, ”What’s wrong? Who upset you?”

With a dark expression, Kang Zhirong placed his mobile phone in front of Du Heng and said angrily, ”Dean, those videos of you treating the elderly, especially the ones about diabetes, have all been taken down because of complaints.”

Du Heng’s hand, still massaging his lower back, paused. His eyes instinctively flicked to the mobile phone screen before him, and his expression darkened. ”What’s going on with this short video platform? Why is it always one thing after another? Will it ever end?”

Frowning, he looked at Kang Zhirong. ”What was the reason for the complaints and takedown?”

”Accusations of ’spreading false information and misleading patients into incorrect medication use’,” Kang Zhirong said indignantly. ”I even filed an appeal with the complete medical records, but the platform ignored it.”

Du Heng narrowed his eyes, then resumed massaging his lower back as if nothing were amiss.

He had anticipated this issue, but hearing it confirmed so suddenly was still a bit hard to accept.

However, in contrast to Du Heng’s regained composure, Kang Zhirong seemed even more incensed. ”Dean, I’ve done some specific research these past couple of days. Experts in Yangcheng have developed a medication called ’Anti-Sugar Three-Yellow Pills,’ and it’s proven highly effective through in-hospital use there.

”But it’s still only an internally used preparation at their hospital; it hasn’t been released to the public.

”Furthermore, my inquiries show that among the top ten antidiabetic drugs internationally, three are receptor agonists, four are inhibitors, and three are insulin-based.

”In our country, however, insulin-based antidiabetic drugs account for seven of the top ten. That ’Anti-Sugar Three-Yellow Pills’ doesn’t even rank.”

Du Heng gently shook his head, signaling Kang Zhirong to be patient. Once his lower back felt a bit more comfortable, he finally said, ”Western medicine, regardless of what illness it’s treating, always takes the Disease itself as its starting point. It focuses on continually refining the understanding of the illness’s cause.”
