This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Shengnan’s father nodded. ”It’s good that someone is in charge. I was just worried that in an attempt to save money, you might turn a good thing into a bad one.”

”Uncle, you can rest assured. We will strengthen cooperation with various hospitals. We will only implement a method after extensive discussion and with everyone’s approval.”

Upon hearing Du Heng’s words, Wu Shengnan’s father breathed a long sigh of relief. ”Your approach is excellent. It can pull traditional Chinese medicine from the periphery into those dominant departments, ensuring it’s no longer just playing a supporting role or acting as a mere patchworker.

”However, this would require some senior practitioners or experts from your field of traditional Chinese medicine to take the lead. Otherwise, you alone can’t accomplish this. Are they willing?”

Du Heng was more confident about this question than the others. ”I’ve contacted the senior practitioners from various hospitals. Furthermore, I’ve entrusted the aid approvals for each hospital to these experts and department directors. They control the initial review process within their respective hospitals, and consequently, they’ve all expressed support for this project.”

Wu Shengnan’s father laughed heartily. ”Excellent! This method is truly excellent. Audit authority, reputation, and tangible benefits—it covers all bases. Very good.

”One last question: what is the main source of funding for your foundation? Is it just your and your classmate’s company? Is the aid funding unlimited, or is there an overall upper limit?”

”According to our initial plan, there is an upper limit. It’s set for a period of half a year or a full year, until the funds are depleted. After all, my classmate and I aren’t billionaires. If there were no upper limit, we probably couldn’t sustain it.

”As for the source of funds, for now, it’s just the two of us. Regarding other external funding, we’re concerned there might be issues we can’t control, so we’re not accepting any for the time being.”

”Alright, your considerations are very thorough.” Wu Shengnan’s father praised Du Heng again with a smile. ”Leave this matter to me. I’ll help you figure something out. We can’t let such a good initiative be spoiled by a few rats.”

Despite receiving praise from his father-in-law, Du Heng grew increasingly puzzled. He didn’t understand what Wu Shengnan’s father was getting at. If he simply wanted to ask these questions, he could have waited until they were home. There was no need to bring him to this place just for that.

However, since Wu Shengnan’s father didn’t elaborate, Du Heng couldn’t very well ask directly. He could only go along with what his father-in-law was saying.

Wu Shengnan’s father gave another hearty laugh and said to his secretary, ”Xiao Ning, this son-in-law of mine is quite decent. You two should interact more in the future.”

Secretary Ning smiled and nodded. ”Of course. Dean Du is evidently a person of great talent and foresight. I must certainly learn more from him in the future.”

Du Heng immediately put on a flattered expression. ”Director Ning, you’re too kind. It should be me who seeks to learn from you.”

Seeing the two of them modestly complimenting each other, Wu Shengnan’s father laughed again. ”Alright, we’re all colleagues here, no need for such modesty. You two should find time to sit down together more often, deepen your understanding of each other.”

Du Heng and Secretary Ning continued to smile and agree.

However, Du Heng felt as if the old man was arranging his ’final affairs.’ Was he planning to step down or leave?

Before he could dwell on it, Wu Shengnan’s father said to the secretary, ”Xiao Ning, you can go attend to your own matters. I want to chat with Xiao Heng.”

Secretary Ning very promptly turned and left, without the slightest hesitation.

Once Secretary Ning had left, the smile on Wu Shengnan’s father’s face gradually vanished. He fixed his gaze on Du Heng and asked, ”Xiao Heng, do you recall the matter I discussed with you last month?”

Du Heng paused for a moment. He was unsure which specific matter his father-in-law was referring to.

However, Wu Shengnan’s father didn’t seem concerned whether Du Heng remembered or not, continuing as if thinking aloud, ”I know your skills in treating cancer are considerable. Later, I’ll take you somewhere. An old acquaintance of mine needs your assessment.”

Cancer?

Du Heng suddenly recalled something. Wu Shengnan’s father seemed to have mentioned this last month. ”Uncle, may I ask what kind of cancer it is?”

”Liver cancer.”

”Liver cancer?” Du Heng scratched his head. This was the first time he’d encountered liver cancer. However, having already treated Yang Yuansheng’s cirrhosis ascites, he wasn’t entirely daunted by the disease. His main concern now was the stage. If it was advanced, and the patient had already undergone chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or if cancer cells had spread after surgical resection, then he would have to decline. He wouldn’t even agree to an examination.

With this in mind, Du Heng paused thoughtfully before asking, ”Uncle, if I may ask, how long ago was this senior diagnosed? What stage is the cancer in now? And has he undergone any treatment?”

Wu Shengnan’s father looked at Du Heng meaningfully and said slowly, ”Some time ago, this senior was dealing with a fatty liver and received treatment for a while.

”Last month, during a meeting, he suddenly experienced intense pain, forcing the meeting to be cut short. Subsequently, he also developed symptoms such as abdominal distension, lack of strength, and diarrhea. The Health Group confirmed it as mid-stage liver cancer.

”Over the past month, he has been receiving traditional Chinese medicine treatment and has also taken some special medicine, but the results have been poor. Regarding the radiotherapy and chemotherapy you might be worried about, this senior is aware of the side effects of such treatments, so he hasn’t used them.

”Xiao Heng, are you confident you can cure him? This senior is very important to me. As long as he’s here, I can remain in Jinzhou. If anything happens to him, then I...”
