This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Dong Yuezhang rolled his eyes at Du Heng. ”Consider? What’s there to consider? The Health Clinic’s internal affairs are one thing; the township originally had little room to interfere. Now it’s directly become your branch, fully handed over to your Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. What say do we have?”

Seeing Dong Yuezhang’s expression, Du Heng chuckled. ”Don’t worry. Regardless of when, the Health Clinic is still a First-level Institution under your Township Government, and it still serves the ordinary people of the entire township. It’s the same as before; nothing’s changed.”

Dong Yuezhang sighed softly. ”It’s only because you’re the Dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Otherwise, I would have died before agreeing to turn the Health Clinic into your branch. As a First-level health clinic, it’s not just about treating patients simply. It also must be responsible for the healthcare of the entire township.”

”Do you think I need you to remind me of that? I’m clearer on this than you are.” Du Heng then looked at Dong Yuezhang, puzzled. ”Right, what did you actually look for me for today?”

”Can’t I just come out and sit with you for a while?”

Du Heng shook his head. ”That’s not your style, Town Mayor Dong. As a workaholic, you wouldn’t have the free time to invite me for tea.”

When Du Heng finished speaking, Dong Yuezhang shook his head and chuckled, ”You still know me best, Du.”

”Out with it. Stop the flattery.”

”I do have a few things to discuss with you. First, do you remember Wang Shiyuan and his wife from Wangjiazui?”

”Of course, I remember. Their agritourism business is doing quite well. Didn’t we visit them at the end of March?” Du Heng looked at Dong Yuezhang with confusion. ”What’s wrong with them?”

Dong Yuezhang chuckled. ”It’s good news. You’re invited to a banquet next week.”

”A banquet?” Du Heng was even more puzzled. ”What kind of banquet is this, so out of the blue?”

”Their child was born, and they’re inviting you to the Baby Steps celebration.”

Du Heng blinked, a little lost. ”A child? They had a child? That’s not right. When we went to the mountains at the end of March, how did I not notice?”

Dong Yuezhang glanced leisurely at Du Heng, swaying comfortably in his lounge chair. ”Back then, you had just been stripped of your position as Dean of the Health Clinic and were in a terrible mood. You played mahjong distractedly all day. How could you possibly have noticed Wang Shiyuan’s wife?”

Du Heng took a sharp breath. ”I know about Wang Shiyuan’s wife’s condition. Although she looked fine, her body was severely weakened. After recuperation, her daily life and activities were okay, but pregnancy would still be a very heavy burden for her.”

”TSK.” Dong Yuezhang drawled, his tone laced with a hint of mockery, ”I didn’t expect you to actually have the air of a Divine Doctor. You’re right; Wang Shiyuan’s wife indeed wasn’t suitable for pregnancy. The fetus was born a full month premature. If it weren’t for the highly skilled doctors at the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital, the child wouldn’t have been saved.”

At this point, Dong Yuezhang became a bit more serious. ”A few days ago, when Wang Shiyuan came to the Township Government to talk about it, he looked absolutely terrified. If that child hadn’t been saved, his wife would probably have gone back to her old ways.”

Du Heng shot Dong Yuezhang a look. ”That’s nonsense. Wang Shiyuan is just full of hindsight. His wife was traumatized by their first child, and it’s only been half a year since she started to recover. If this child had been lost, the consequences would have been unthinkable.”

Du Heng grew angrier. ”That couple is truly irresponsible. Hmph. You can go. I’m not going.”

Dong Yuezhang chuckled softly. ”Are you angry because they didn’t tell you? Don’t be too upset. When they found out about the pregnancy, you were in the Capital. You weren’t back for long before the New Year, and after the New Year, all that trouble happened to you. They definitely didn’t want to bother you, so they didn’t tell you.”

Du Heng was still somewhat angry, more so because of their irresponsibility. ”Fine, let’s drop it. What else did you look for me for?”

Seeing that Du Heng really didn’t want to discuss it, Dong Yuezhang changed the subject. ”The second thing is, I want to ask about your future plans for the Health Clinic, so I can have a better idea.”

”What do you mean?”

”You understand the situation in Central Lake. It’s mountainous with steep slopes, the land is infertile, crop variety is limited and lacks economic viability. The only cash crop, lilies, has also been severely degrading in recent years.”

Dong Yuezhang sighed and continued, ”The young workforce has almost completely left, leaving behind only the elderly over fifty and young children still learning to talk. I genuinely can’t find anything that could turn Central Lake’s economy around.”

He then looked at Du Heng seriously and said, ”If you can devise a good development plan for the Health Clinic, and given your status as a famous traditional Chinese medicine doctor, I believe the Health Clinic’s future development focus will remain on traditional Chinese medicine, as it was before. If that’s truly the case, then I’ll need to make traditional chinese medicine the overall focus, using the Health Clinic as a base, and see if we can bring about some improvement for Central Lake.”

Du Heng also grew serious. After a long moment, he said, ”I don’t know much about economic development, so I can’t say if it would work. But if you want to rely on Traditional Chinese Medicine as the focus, then my suggestion is that you’d best contact Liao. He is an absolute expert when it comes to traditional chinese medicine. Moreover, he has a traditional chinese medicine company and factory, which are much more substantial than the Health Clinic.”
