This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Liao Quansheng’s choice of restaurant wasn’t very high-end, but it was definitely one of those delicious places. This could be seen from the queue of people outside when Du Heng arrived.

Fortunately, Liao Quansheng had arrived early and secured a table, so Du Heng didn’t have to queue up as well.

”Liao, you’re really stingy, treating me to a place like this? This doesn’t match your big boss status, does it?”

Du Heng pulled out a chair and sat down, starting to tease Liao Quansheng.

Liao Quansheng ignored Du Heng’s teasing, placed a menu in front of him, and said, ”Hurry up and order a couple more dishes. If you’d been any later, the owner would have had to start turning people away.”

Du Heng glanced at the dishes Liao Quansheng had ordered and declined to order more. Four dishes for two people were absolutely enough; ordering more would be a waste.

Liao Quansheng didn’t stand on ceremony either. He took the menu, asked the waiter to serve the dishes, and then said, ”The owner here is my friend. Their fish is absolutely superb. I’ll let you try it today.”

As they spoke, he poured some tea for Du Heng.

Du Heng laughed. ”So it’s your friend’s place. I was wondering why someone like you, who’s made big money, would treat me to a greasy spoon like this.”

But as soon as Du Heng finished speaking, Liao Quansheng gave a bitter smile. ”What big money? The money I got this time isn’t even as much as the loose change from your share.”

Du Heng gave him a skeptical look, signaling him to stop talking nonsense.

But Liao Quansheng continued with a bitter smile, ”With our relationship, there’s truly no need for me to lie to you. I’ve done a rough calculation. What I’ll pocket is probably only a little over two million. It’s nothing compared to your share.”

Du Heng was stunned for a moment. ”No way! Your share couldn’t possibly be less than mine, could it?”

”I’m not lying to you. Don’t forget, we split it among three people, and we have all sorts of costs to factor in,” Liao Quansheng said with a rueful smile, shaking his head. ”And that lawyer you found—she’s really f*cking amazing. Her business acumen and negotiation skills are truly top-notch in the industry. Our company’s legal department and negotiation team were completely outmaneuvered by that one woman. Besides, there was your recommendation, and the provincial leaders’ advice, that the pricing of the two medicines shouldn’t be too high. So, our profit margins ended up like this.”

However, at this point, Liao Quansheng suddenly brightened. ”But it doesn’t matter. This is just the beginning, and it’s already exceeded our expectations. The second half of the year will definitely bring even better prospects.”

After that, Liao Quansheng asked Du Heng with a smile, ”So, tell me about you. You’ve received so much money; have you thought about how you’re going to spend it?”

As soon as Liao Quansheng finished asking, Du Heng gave a bitter smile. ”How to spend it? I’ve thought about it a lot, but those are all just thoughts. You know me, and you know the nature of my work. I don’t really have many avenues for spending money. Besides, you’ve met my girlfriend. She’s not the type to indulge in extravagant luxuries; her attitude towards money is that as long as there’s enough, it’s fine. And you know her family’s situation too, so there’s really no opportunity to spend lavishly. Sigh, for now, I can only leave it in the bank to earn interest.”

Liao Quansheng also sighed. ”Tell me, what’s so good about your job? You can’t even comfortably spend the money you earn. It’s really suffocating. In my opinion, you might as well quit your job, and we can start a business together as brothers. You can focus on research and development, and I’ll handle management and sales. If we put our hearts into it, we could build a publicly listed company in three years. In five years, we could make you Jinzhou’s richest person. In ten, we could be a global industry leader! Wouldn’t that be amazing? Much better than your current job, right? With your current job, the best you can hope for is to become the dean of a Class A hospital for life. That’s not interesting at all.”

Du Heng gave a light laugh. ”You know if I had any such ideas, I would have resigned at the beginning of the year. So, let’s not talk about this anymore.”

Liao Quansheng shook his head, not understanding. ”I don’t know what’s so good about your job. You work yourself to the bone for little pay, get yelled at by patients, and can’t even spend the money you make. I really don’t know what you’re after.”

”I’m after happiness,” Du Heng replied.

Liao Quansheng snorted. ”If you really wanted happiness, why don’t you just donate all your money? That would make you even happier, and you’d gain a reputation as a great philanthropist too.”

Hearing Liao Quansheng’s words, Du Heng laughed. ”Donating it is out of the question. I might not have much use for this money myself, but my brother, my niece, my nephew, and my future children can use it. Why would I donate it for no good reason? But speaking of this, I do have an idea, and I’d like your opinion on it.”

Liao Quansheng’s expression turned serious. ”Go ahead, I’m listening.”

”I’m thinking of setting up a ’Poverty Medical Aid Fund.’ Every time we distribute the profits, you could put half of my share directly into this fund. This way, it can help some needy families who genuinely require assistance, and that money wouldn’t be taxed, which would save a significant amount.”

After listening to Du Heng, Liao Quansheng was silent for a good while before saying, ”Your idea is very good. Even though we’re in business, we also sell medicine. To put it more nobly, what we’re doing is also about healing people and saving lives; we can’t only be about making money. Moreover, when running a business, if you only care about profits and have no sense of social responsibility, that’s just too lowbrow.”
