This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

But at least this fellow has come to his senses now. He might not have completely turned over a new leaf, but it’s not too late for him to pick up his books and start studying again.

And he has an excellent advantage: his father.

Thanks to his father’s management of the Perilla Clinic, their family lives comfortably, allowing Wei Kaida to be a ’rich second generation.’ It really takes some skill to achieve this.

So Du Heng responded with a smile, ”It’s up to you, of course. You have the final say. And I don’t expect you to teach him any profound techniques; I just want you to lay a solid foundation for the Child.”

”Besides, if you can’t handle it, your father is still around, isn’t he? I refuse to believe that an old traditional Chinese medicine expert like him would stand by and watch you ruin a promising talent.”

Wei Kaida rolled his eyes and said helplessly, ”I knew you were up to something. So you were aiming for my dad all along.”

”Hehe, Xiao Yi will be your disciple, which makes him your father’s grand-disciple. He’ll be taught by family, right?”

Du Heng’s mischievous grin left Wei Kaida speechless. ”Du, you’ve changed. Ever since you became a leader, you’ve become so calculating.”

”We’re all brothers, don’t say that. Besides, didn’t I just find you a good disciple?”

Wei Kaida glanced disdainfully at Du Heng, then looked down at little Du Yi in his arms and sighed softly. ”I still think it’s not good for you to send him to learn medicine so early. Society has changed.”

Du Heng replied directly, ”Yes, it’s changed. Doctors who can diagnose can’t perform acupuncture, and those who can perform acupuncture can’t diagnose. A perfectly good life-saving method has been turned into a mere wellness technique, and a Doctor who saves lives is now called a technician. Society is definitely different now.”

Wei Kaida was startled; he hadn’t expected his statement to provoke such a strong reaction from Du Heng. ”There’s no need for you to be so cynical about Society’s development.”

”And I’m talking about the Child, not the current state of traditional Chinese medicine specializations.”

Du Heng shook his head lightly. ”Since you’re talking about the Child, tell me, what’s so different about Children nowadays?”

”A Child’s childhood should be happy, allowing them to freely express their nature.”

”Happy? Freely express their nature? So that means just letting them play, right?” Du Heng chuckled. ”You should read fewer of those sensationalist articles from marketing accounts. You’re a university graduate; how can you be swayed by such brainwashing pieces?”

”Online propaganda claims that Western ’happy education’ allows Children to express their nature and cultivate creativity. But have you looked into what kind of education that really is?”

”It’s Western public education.”

”Who is their public education for? It’s for the lower classes of Society, the Children from families struggling to make ends meet.”

”You may not be able to go see for yourself, but you can search online. Look at the upper-middle class and the ruling echelons in Western Society. Which of them sends their Child to a public school for ’happy education’?”

”And look at those in the upper-middle class and the ruling echelons in Western Society today. Which of them emerged from ’happy education’? Damn it, every single one of them is a graduate of private schools, products of elite education and test-oriented education!”

Du Heng looked at Wei Kaida, utterly exasperated. ”Now, consider our country. Who are the ones shouting about ’happy education’?”

”It’s those elites who are rotten to the core. It’s clueless idiots like you whose heads are full of nonsense. And it’s some fools who treat their Children like they’re raising their own fathers.”

”But look at the wealthy—don’t they all send their Children abroad or to private schools for elite education?”

”And speaking of our own country, a certain table tennis champion started training her son as soon as he could walk. His training partners—aren’t they all champions? Have you ever heard her advocate for ’happy education’?”

”A Professor’s daughter published SCI papers at thirteen. He’s a Professor; he should know more than you, right? Why isn’t his daughter getting ’happy education’?”

”Academic tutoring classes were supposedly canceled, but are you aware that urban middle and upper-income families are all paying for one-on-one tutoring for their Children, starting at 500 yuan per session? Do you know about this?”

”In our city, art training classes start at two hundred yuan per lesson, and learning a musical instrument starts at three hundred yuan per lesson. What’s more, it’s the Teachers who pick the Students. You didn’t know this either, did you?”

Du Heng looked at the dumbfounded Wei Kaida and said with a half-smile, ”Play? Who do you expect to play with them?”

”A Child’s primary task nowadays is studying; play comes second.”

”If you let them just play now, are they supposed to start studying when everyone else is starting their careers, earning money, and competing for resources?”

”How many Children do you think will have the advantages you did?”

”Who else gets a chance like you to settle down and study seriously at thirty?”

Wei Kaida clicked his tongue. ”Just make your point. Why drag me into it?”

”I’m just giving you a heads-up, my friend. Don’t let that toxic advice you find online brainwash you,” Du Heng glanced at Wei Kaida. ”You’re married now. In another month or two, you and your wife should be thinking about having a Child.”

”If you’re still clinging to this ’happy education’ idea, you’d better start working your tail off now. If you don’t earn at least 10 million yuan, forget about your Child having a ’happy’ life.”

”Is it really as dire as you make it sound?” Wei Kaida expressed his disbelief.

Du Heng chuckled. ”Dire or not, you’ll find out when you have your own Child.”

”Then how do you know?”

”The Hospital takes in new recruits every year. Never mind Grade 3A Hospitals; just look at the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Can you find any Children who got in through ’happy education’? Every single one of them studied like crazy, cramming day and night, and probably needed some connections on top of that to land such an opportunity.”
