This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”What’s the matter?” Du Heng helplessly rubbed his temples, which were throbbing incessantly.

Kang Zhirong gave a slight nod. ”Dean, there are two things.”

”Go ahead.”

”First, during the meeting just now, a man named Dong Yuezhang called you. He said he’s the Town Mayor of Central Lake and a friend of yours. He asked you to call him back when you’re free.”

Du Heng nodded with a tense face, propped his elbows on the desk, and his index fingers started from his eyebrows, then scraped all the way to his temples, where he massaged them.

After rubbing them three or four times, he brought his four fingers together and continued scraping downwards along the back of his ears, all the way to the prominent bone at the back of his neck.

After doing this several times, he felt much more comfortable as both his neck and head loosened up.

”Alright, I understand. What’s the other thing?”

”It’s about the short video platform.”

Platform?

Du Heng’s brow furrowed again.

Recently, there had been too many frustrating issues with the short video platform. They would either suddenly block videos or claim that video content was non-compliant.

This made Du Heng’s head, which had just started to feel better, begin to throb again. ”What’s going on with them now?”

Kang Zhirong glanced carefully at the impatient Du Heng and said cautiously, ”Last night, all of our videos were blocked.”

”What’s the reason?”

”The explanation given is that to popularize traditional Chinese medicine, one must be certified as an attending Physician or above in a Grade 3A hospital. Otherwise, one can only share content about daily life. For example, we can no longer do disease record analysis or explanations of the basics of traditional Chinese medicine.”

Du Heng leaned back and asked with a frown, ”I’ve seen many young doctors popularizing medical science. Those young men don’t look like attending Physicians, do they?”

Kang Zhirong’s eyes held a hint of anger as he lowered his voice and said, ”As far as I know, Western medicine doesn’t face such strict restrictions when it comes to popularization.”

Discriminatory treatment?!

Du Heng was somewhat angry yet helpless. ”So what do we do now? Does using the name of our Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital simply not work anymore?”

”That’s not quite it. If we continue to use the certification from the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, then we aren’t allowed to discuss traditional Chinese medicine. There are no restrictions on other topics.”

After saying that, Kang Zhirong blinked at Du Heng, hoping he could come up with a solution.

But Du Heng, after a moment’s thought, suddenly said, ”I have an employment contract signed with Provincial First Hospital here. Provincial First Hospital is a Grade 3A hospital, and I myself am a Deputy Director. There shouldn’t be a problem with that, right?”

Kang Zhirong nodded eagerly. ”That would definitely work, but would Provincial First Hospital agree to it?”

Du Heng searched through a large box in the cabinet behind him, found his employment contract, and handed it to Kang Zhirong. ”You don’t have to worry about that. I’ll handle the communication with them. Just make sure to get this certification process completed quickly.”

Kang Zhirong took the contract, checked its contents, and after confirming, turned and left.

After Kang Zhirong departed, Du Heng sat alone in his chair, closed his eyes, and rested for a while. Then he made a phone call, grabbed his belongings, and left the office.

Du Heng found Dong Yuezhang waiting by the Yellow River scenic route.

”Damn, you’re really acting like a leader now, aren’t you? Look at the sour face you’re giving me after I called you out.” Dong Yuezhang started in on him the moment he saw the unhappy Du Heng. ”If you didn’t want to come, you shouldn’t have. Since you’re here, don’t give me that look. Come on, crack a smile.”

Du Heng glanced helplessly at Dong Yuezhang. ”It’s not about you.” He then recounted what Kang Zhirong had told him.

After listening, Dong Yuezhang patted Du Heng on the shoulder reassuringly. ”Since the 18th year of the Republic of China, when Yu Yunxiu and others proposed the abolition of traditional Chinese medicine, it has been pushed to its lowest point. If it weren’t for the resistance of enlightened individuals at the time and the persistence of our traditional Chinese medicine predecessors, traditional Chinese medicine might have already gone down the path they had designed for it and died a natural death.

”Also, if New China hadn’t been established and the Chairman hadn’t revitalized traditional Chinese medicine, would you have the job opportunities you have now?

”Although some people still harbor the intention of destroying our traditional Chinese medicine and even our traditional culture, the country has always promoted the development of traditional Chinese medicine. With younger generations like you forging ahead, the industry is continuously developing in a positive direction, and that’s something to be happy about.”

Dong Yuezhang gave Du Heng another pat on the shoulder. ”Since 1929, nearly a hundred years have passed. Those contemptible clowns tried everything to destroy us, from administrative measures and capital control to brainwashing the public. But haven’t we continued to develop well?

”So, don’t worry. Take it slow.”

Du Heng let out a long, drawn-out sigh.

Dong Yuezhang was right. Traditional Chinese medicine, and even traditional culture, had endured.

However, Du Heng then said slowly, ”The imperialists haven’t given up on their desire to destroy us, so we must keep working hard.”

Unexpectedly, Dong Yuezhang burst into laughter upon hearing this. ”You’re right, but imperialism is out in the open, whereas the traitors are right here among us.”

Hearing such a cynical remark, Du Heng couldn’t help but look more closely at Dong Yuezhang. This wasn’t something a composed person like him would usually say. Du Heng asked, ”What happened to you? Why do you sound even more bitter than I do?”

Dong Yuezhang said, grinding his teeth, ”While you were busy, I was scrolling through videos and came across a young doctor who does medical science popularization. I don’t know if he’s legitimate or not, but his username is Neurology Doctor.

”He looks quite young, probably not even thirty. He started by saying he didn’t understand traditional Chinese medicine, but then, in a very assertive tone, he claimed, ’Anyone who uses the five elements for diagnosis is a fraud.’ He sounded so convinced, his words almost made my lung qi explode!

”Can you believe that?

”The basic theories of our traditional Chinese medicine are Yin and Yang, Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, which correspond to the liver, heart, spleen, lungs, and kidneys respectively. This fellow claimed not to understand traditional Chinese medicine, yet he immediately turned around and dismissed its core theories, labeling it all as fraudulent. If that’s not a traitor, what is?

”Tell me, who’s worse? The imperialists, or these traitors from our own ranks?”

Du Heng suddenly felt like teasing Dong Yuezhang and said with a smile, ”Perhaps the young man genuinely doesn’t understand traditional Chinese medicine because he’s young. After all, the core of Western medicine is tangible, while ours is relatively abstract. It’s normal for misunderstandings to occur.”

”Bullshit!” Dong Yuezhang cursed. ”Doesn’t every hospital have a Chinese Medicine Department these days? How could he make such a basic mistake?”
