This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

As the Elder Sister’s voice trailed off, the gazes of everyone present—whether it was Du Heng and Dong Yuezhang, or the idle onlookers enjoying the spectacle—shifted incessantly among the family of three. Their expressions filled increasingly with contempt and ridicule.

This caused the already irate man’s face to flush crimson. For a moment, his proudly raised chin wavered, unsure whether to lower it or keep it defiantly aloft.

Just as the man blushed with shame, looking at the fruit pulp and juice on his son’s foot and unsure what to say, the woman who had been crouching down, coaxing the child, suddenly leaped to her feet. She pointed at the Elder Sister’s face, her finger jabbing forward, her expression utterly terrifying. ”Look at your pathetic, broke self! Can’t sell your peaches, so now you’re planning to scam someone, is that it? You see my son is small and think you can pin it on him?

”Are your damn eyes blind? You think just because children are easy to bully, we adults are easy to bully too?”

As the woman jabbed her finger, spittle flew from her mouth with every word. Her pearly white teeth and fully exposed gums, paired with her garishly bright red lips, were enough to induce an overwhelming nausea and a faint sense of horror.

Disgusting!

Even Du Heng, the Dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, who had encountered all sorts of women, was momentarily shocked. This was a woman who could repel people just by opening her mouth.

He even instinctively stepped aside, clearing a path for her advance.

As for the Elder Sister, she was forced back by the woman’s jabbing finger. Her lips trembled, only able to stammer, ”You... you...”

After her furious tirade, the woman, with the full force of a ferocious shrew, curled her lip again. ”Alright! My son was running so fast; were you the one chasing him from behind? Now he’s been knocked down, so you have to pay his medical expenses.”

”You... you... you’re shamelessly causing trouble! I’ll re... URGH... URGH...”

The Elder Sister, having been spat full in the face, suddenly felt her eyes bulge. She hadn’t managed to utter two full sentences before the whites of her eyes rolled up, and she collapsed to the ground with a THUD.

The woman, however, tilted her chin high, her eyes looking down askance at the fallen Elder Sister. ”Tsk, tsk, tsk, what’s wrong with you? Trying to extort money by faking an injury?”

The Elder Sister’s sudden collapse stunned the onlookers. Their first reaction, much like that of the cursing woman, was to think the Elder Sister was trying to preemptively play the victim.

However, Du Heng, who was standing beside her, rushed over at once. He didn’t believe the Elder Sister was faking; her deathly pale face and cyanotic lips clearly indicated a heart problem.

”Dong, go to my car and get my medical kit!” Du Heng shouted as he knelt beside the Elder Sister. The moment his hand made contact, his expression changed.

Cardiac arrest?!

Du Heng didn’t hesitate for a second. He dropped to his knees, interlocked his hands over the Elder Sister’s chest, and began standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Even while performing CPR, he didn’t forget to shout, ”Call 120! Call 120, quickly!”

Only then did the crowd realize that things weren’t as they thought. It seemed the woman was truly in a bad way, not faking it to gain the upper hand as they had assumed.

The woman also sensed something was amiss. Pointing at the Elder Sister on the ground, she began to back away. ”You all saw it! I didn’t touch her. She’s the one trying to extort money!”

Retreating to her child, who had by then stopped crying, she pulled him up. Then she snapped at the dumbstruck man beside her, ”Are you blind? Hurry up and let’s go! What are you waiting for, an invitation to a feast or something?”

”Oh, oh, oh, oh.” The man, jolted to his senses, helped his wife pull up their son, turned, and prepared to flee.

But who would have known? A middle-aged man and three young men suddenly appeared before them, blocking their path.

When the man saw this, the ferocity that had momentarily vanished from his face returned. He roughly shoved the middle-aged man blocking him. ”Are you blind? Get out of my way!”

The middle-aged man remained unmoved. He glanced past the aggressive man at Du Heng, who was anxiously tending to the collapsed woman, then looked back at the man before him and said calmly, ”I’m afraid not. I’ve already called the police. Let’s wait for them to arrive.”

The man flew into a rage and tried to push the middle-aged man again, but one of the young men beside the middle-aged man glared and shoved him right back. ”Stay right there!”

The man looked at the three or four imposing men before him. Their menacing aura made him quail slightly. But his wife wasn’t cowed. With a WHOOSH, she darted to the front, pointed at the men blocking their way, and shrieked, ”Who the hell do you think you are? What kennel let you curs loose?

”Get out of my way, now! Or I’ll sue you for false imprisonment and bleed you dry, you broke good-for-nothings!”

As she spoke, she reached out to shove them, but the young men beside the middle-aged man weren’t about to tolerate her behavior. They didn’t share Dong Yuezhang and Du Heng’s concerns about their professional reputations. Seeing the woman try to push them, they simply shoved her forcefully back. One of them glared and snarled, ”Where’d you learn these harpy tactics? Say one more word of nonsense, and I’ll slap all your teeth out!”

Seeing his wife shoved, the man lunged forward to help her. But one of the young men next to him tilted his head, pointed a finger at him, and threatened, ”You just stand there! Move an inch, and I’ll sever your tendons, believe it or not!”
