This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng was like a child showing off before his parents, eagerly awaiting praise. He chuckled and said with pride, ”It was originally supposed to be 8,000,000 yuan, but since we borrowed 2,000,000 yuan when we bought our houses, I only ended up with a little over 6,000,000 yuan. However, after the money arrived, I still had to pay taxes. Fortunately, I found a very capable lawyer, so I only paid hundreds of thousands of yuan in taxes. Otherwise, I would have had to pay over 1,000,000 yuan.”

Du Ping looked up at his younger brother, momentarily speechless. Around this time last year, when he thought about his brother’s 50,000 yuan monthly salary, Du Ping had been excited and happy. He felt it was all worth it and that his brother’s earnings, as a university graduate, were a testament to his abilities. When Du Heng mentioned buying a house in June, the figure was astonishing, but without seeing the actual money, the impact wasn’t as direct. But now, as those long strings of numbers met his eyes, Du Ping felt as if he had lost the ability to speak. The money I’ve earned in my entire life is probably just a fraction of that number, isn’t it? When Du Heng was earning 50,000 yuan, Du Ping could still talk to him, offer some fatherly advice. When his brother earned 100,000 or 200,000 yuan, Du Ping could still give him a reminder or two. But when he saw this seven-figure sum, He suddenly found he couldn’t speak; he felt he no longer had the right to lecture Du Heng.

Du Heng didn’t receive the praise he expected from Du Ping; he only saw the tremor in his older brother’s eyes. His mind being quick, Du Heng could roughly guess what Du Ping was thinking. He chuckled and said, ”Bro, I originally wanted to give you 1,000,000 yuan, but I knew you definitely wouldn’t take it. So, how about I use this 500,000 yuan to get you a new car? Just find someone to sell that old, third-hand car you have now.”

Du Ping, who had been silent, couldn’t hold back any longer. He glared at Du Heng and retorted, ”Bullshit! Buying a car for 500,000 yuan? Do you think I’m as flashy as you?”

Du Heng met his brother’s criticism with a dismissive air, his tone slightly smug and bold. ”Big brother, your little brother here has money. What’s wrong with a 500,000 yuan car? If I wasn’t afraid you’d be too nervous driving a 1,000,000 yuan car, I’d buy you one right now. But don’t worry. Once you get used to a 500,000 yuan car and it feels like nothing special, I’ll upgrade you to a 1,000,000 yuan one, and then a 2,000,000 yuan one.”

Du Ping, on the sofa, watched the swaggering Du Heng. He leaned back, pursed his lips, glared, then suddenly thrust his lower abdomen forward, kicking Du Heng squarely on the thigh. ”You damn rascal! You’ve only had a couple of good days, and you’re already getting carried away, aren’t you?”

Du Heng, having been kicked, immediately feigned an indignant look. ”Why’d you kick me for no reason?”

”Kicking you?” Du Ping glared, his finger pointing straight at Du Heng. ”You believe I won’t slap you? You’ve been a leader for two days, and now I bet you don’t even know your own surname! Let me tell you...”

As Du Ping began to lecture him, Du Heng quickly put on a wronged expression, but inwardly, he was overjoyed. This was the relationship, the atmosphere, that the two brothers were familiar with.

Du Ping seized the opportunity, scolding him relentlessly until his mouth was dry and he finally stopped.

”Bro, I’ll definitely listen to you. Let’s talk about important business first.”

”Go on, let’s hear what important business you have to discuss.” Du Ping was getting into it now, as if he had rediscovered the feeling of being the big brother.

Du Heng continued to grin. ”Well, if you don’t want to use this money for a car, then just keep it. The Pharmacy is opening soon, and you can’t be without some emergency funds on hand.”

Hearing Du Heng’s suggestion, Du Ping’s expression softened slightly. ”That arrangement sounds acceptable.”

”Also, I plan to take my sister-in-law and Xiao Yi with me when I leave tomorrow.”

”Why are you taking them?” Du Ping’s brow furrowed again.

Du Heng quickly explained, ”I found a tutoring class for Xiao Yi. I’m taking him to meet the teacher tomorrow, and classes will officially start the day after. Also, I plan for Tingting to continue her internship at the Hospital during this vacation, so my sister-in-law will have to go down there to cook for both of them. Besides, the Pharmacy will start training in a few days. Don’t you and my sister-in-law need to attend as well? We can’t just be completely hands-off shopkeepers, can we? You know, this Pharmacy will be your responsibility to manage in the future.”

”If that’s the case... let’s do that. You all go ahead tomorrow. There are still a few things I need to take care of at home; I’ll finish up and then head over.”

Over the past month, Du Ping had gradually come to accept the ways his younger brother was changing his life. Therefore, he didn’t object to these arrangements. However, he still had some hesitation. ”The new house still needs the kitchen renovation finished. And I heard you can’t live in a newly renovated house right away. That... what’s it called... formaldehyde or something? It can cause cancer. The house needs to air out before anyone can live in it.”

Du Heng laughed. ”You can all stay at my old place first. I’m staying at Nannan’s now, and it’s not good to leave this house empty. Besides, I’m getting married in October. If Sister-in-law moves in with Tingting and Xiao Yi, it’ll liven up the place and stop it from feeling cold.”

”You should discuss this with your sister-in-law. I’m fine either way.”

Discuss it with his sister-in-law? There was nothing much to discuss. When Du Heng brought it up with his sister-in-law that afternoon, she agreed immediately. As she put it, How can we get married if the new house doesn’t have a bit of life in it? Moreover, Du Heng’s new house hadn’t even had a proper housewarming, nor had the stove been lit for the first time, which wasn’t how things were usually done.

So, it didn’t take much persuasion with his sister-in-law, and the matter was quickly settled. However, when Du Yi returned home that evening and heard he was going to an interest class, he excitedly asked Du Heng, ”Little Uncle, what kind of class did you sign me up for?”

”It’s definitely something you’ll love,” Du Heng smiled at his nephew.

”Is it martial arts?”

”You’ll find out when you get there.”

Du Yi was overjoyed and full of anticipation. He was so excited that he barely slept that night. The next day, as soon as it was light, he was already waiting in the living room. When it came time to move their things, he was particularly energetic, helping to carry bags and boxes of all sizes.

Du Heng watched the excited Du Yi with a smile, saying nothing. Du Xuejing, meanwhile, looked around with a mixture of surprise and a touch of her own excitement. ”Little Uncle, is this the house you bought?”

”What do you think? Not bad, right?”

”It’s more than not bad; it’s fantastic!”

While Du Xuejing was still marveling, Du Yi, standing beside her, said, ”Sis, our house is here too.”

Du Xuejing paused, then looked at Du Yi. ”Our house?”

”Yeah, I even came to see it last time. Want me to show you?”

”Yes, please show me!”

Du Yi, perhaps not even remembering the exact location, was about to dash off anyway but was promptly pulled back by Du Heng. ”Let your sister go see it herself. How about you come with me to check out your tutoring class?”

Du Yi’s attention shifted instantly. ”Okay, okay!”

Du Heng smiled at Du Xuejing and said, ”If you want to see the house, ask your mom to take you; she has the key. I’m taking Xiao Yi to his tutoring class first.”

With that, Du Heng led Du Yi away from his new house, heading towards the tutoring class.

However, as they walked, Du Yi’s initial excitement slowly turned to puzzlement. Following closely behind Du Heng, he whispered, ”Little Uncle, this is a clinic, isn’t it?”

”Yes, it’s called Perilla Clinic, a Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic.”

”Didn’t you say you were taking me to see my tutoring class? Why did you bring me here?”

Du Heng smiled at his nephew. ”I have a classmate who works here. We were just passing by, so I thought I’d drop in and see him.”

”Oh. So, should I call him Uncle?”

”Of course.”

As he spoke, Du Heng reached out and pushed open the door of Perilla Clinic. The first thing they saw upon entering was Wei Kaida engrossed in a book. ”Well, well, Dr. Wei! Studying so hard these days, are we?”

Wei Kaida had already stood up with a smile before Du Heng finished speaking. Having recently married, he seemed quite different. The most noticeable change was that his former flightiness had vanished, replaced by a much more mature and steady demeanor.

”You actually brought him to me?” Wei Kaida looked at Du Yi, who was standing beside Du Heng, and couldn’t help but blurt out.
