This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

In traditional Chinese medicine, the five viscera are a whole. When the lung metal observes the liver wood attacking the spleen and stomach, it will intervene to help. However, if the spleen and stomach are weak and cannot provide support, the lung metal alone is insufficient to suppress the fire of the liver wood and will be forced back by it.

As the lung metal fears the upward surge of the liver wood fire, it will inevitably retract to defend itself. Once its strength is depleted, the pediatric patient loses the ability to speak.”

Explaining this with traditional Chinese medicine theory, though straightforward, still incorporated some of its specific concepts. Dr. He and other Western medicine doctors found this explanation difficult to accept, so Du Heng elaborated, ”Or, to put it another way, excessively cold things stimulate the gastrointestinal tract, causing poor blood flow. Your medication then increases the liver’s burden, requiring more blood to maintain its function.

”Blood circulation in the gastrointestinal tract remains poor, which will inevitably affect the liver. When the liver suddenly operates at high power, other ministries will be affected.

”As a result, the heart, which is responsible for blood production, must suddenly increase its output. However, the child’s body cannot adapt to such an abrupt change, and the muscles and meridians throughout the body will convulse.

”With the sudden exertion of the heart, the nearby lung function will inevitably be affected. How can one speak when breathing is difficult?

”Ultimately, the problem arises because the liver suddenly requires increased blood nutrients, but due to poor blood circulation in the spleen and stomach, the liver’s nutrient supply cannot keep up.”

Traditional Chinese medicine treats diseases by observing qi and blood, and the five elements, while Western medicine’s foundation lies in the blood.

According to Western medicine’s approach to treating diseases, despite various methods, it is believed that 99% of diseases are caused by issues with blood and blood vessels. As long as the blood supply problem at the site of the lesion is resolved, the disease is considered cured.

Although Du Heng’s explanation might not have been flawless, everyone generally understood the issue with the pediatric patient.

Among those present, Deputy Director Lv could likely explain it even better than Du Heng, but at this moment, she dared not utter a word.

Her negligence and dereliction of duty now hang over her head like a sword of Damocles. She worries about how Du Heng will deal with her; it’s unlikely to be a simple reprimand.

She was well aware of this.

This incident, by any strict definition, or even by normal standards, constituted a medical accident.

However, because Du Heng discovered and addressed it promptly, it was currently just an internal meeting.

But even as an internal meeting, the matter would not be treated lightly.

Because, no matter when, medical safety is always the biggest issue.

Just then, Lu Guangying and Qiu Pingzhen entered the hospital room, one after the other.

Although they didn’t know what exactly had happened, they knew that since Du Heng had summoned them to the hospital room to discuss matters, it must be related to the patient.

Any issues related to patients must be taken seriously, as they could potentially lead to disputes between doctors and patients.

Seeing them enter the hospital room, Du Heng wasted no words and directly recounted what had just happened, saying, ”It’s up to you to decide how to handle this matter.

”However, everyone must deeply understand that when dealing with patients, we must be extremely cautious and meticulously serious.”

Both Lu Guangying and Qiu Pingzhen’s expressions darkened, especially Qiu Pingzhen, who looked particularly displeased.

These matters fell squarely within his job responsibilities; this was undoubtedly creating more work for him.

Ignoring their reactions, Du Heng continued, ”By the way, fine Director Gao 1,000 yuan. Let her handle the rest herself.”

Lu Guangying’s teeth practically ached at this. When he turned to look at Qiu Pingzhen, he saw Qiu Pingzhen also wore a pained expression.

Should Gao Qin be fined or not? As the current Director of Gynecology and Pediatrics, she certainly deserved to be fined for such an incident. However, Gao Qin was known for her love of money; otherwise, she wouldn’t have gone through the hardship of setting up her own clinic. Moreover, she had just been fined 200 yuan a few days ago. Fining her another 1,000 yuan today... that woman would probably explode! But Du Heng had already stated the rationale for the penalty, leaving them no grounds to plead for leniency. Besides, this was the first time Du Heng had initiated such a significant effort to rectify the doctors’ work style. They had to support him, not undermine him.

Watching Du Heng leave, Lu Guangying and Qiu Pingzhen both sighed. Then, pointing at the people in the office, Lu Guangying said in exasperation, ”You tell me, what am I supposed to say about all of you?

”When the Pediatrics Department was merged into a larger Department, didn’t any of you feel the slightest bit of shame?

”And you, Deputy Director Lv, what did I tell you when we adjusted the department?

”I told you then,” Lu Guangying’s finger was almost poking Deputy Director Lv in the face as she fumed, ”the hospital is facing a huge opportunity! Seize it! The departmental adjustment is only temporary.

”Once the hospital develops and the Pediatrics Department has grown in strength, you would become an independent department again, and you, Deputy Director Lv, would become Director Lv!

”But look at what you’re doing now! Can you tell me what on earth you were thinking? Forget about being a Director; do you even possess the slightest bit of a doctor’s professional attitude anymore?”

Lu Guangying was truly infuriated. Deputy Director Lv had actually been on her side originally; after all, Deputy Director Lv was among those who had gathered to discuss matters over drinks previously.

However, other things happened later, causing the plans they had discussed to come to nothing.
