This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Gao Qin nodded and asked before leaving, ”The Liu Amei you mentioned is the ovarian cancer patient?”

”Yes, her. You can take a look at that disease record. I think it’s quite meaningful.”

”Okay, Dean, I understand.”

After seeing Gao Qin off, it was lunchtime. Du Heng took off his work clothes and walked to the canteen.

While Du Heng was eating, Wu Buwei came over with his tray and quietly sat down beside him.

Du Heng glanced at Wu Buwei’s tray and asked with a smile, ”Why are you only eating vegetables? Grab some more meat. You’ve been working so hard lately; you won’t manage without meat.”

Wu Buwei offered a stiff smile. ”Meat seems a bit too heavy for me right now; just some vegetables will do.”

Du Heng picked up a soup bowl from the side, took a sip, and then smacked his lips contentedly, mumbling, ”True, it’s been too hot these days. No appetite at all. If only it would rain.”

”Buwei, go get some Fermented Rice Water. It’s sour and refreshing; a sip of that is much better than any soft drink.”

Wu Buwei shook his head. ”No thanks, the Fermented Rice Water has been too sour lately. I’m not quite used to it.”

Du Heng nodded with a smile. ”Indeed, Fermented Rice Water that’s too sour isn’t good. We’ve been drinking it since we were little, so we can handle it. But people from other places say it has a fermented taste and think it’s spoiled because they’re not used to it.”

”Different places, different tastes, I suppose. After all, Fermented Rice Water is a fermented product, so they’re not wrong,” Wu Buwei responded while taking small bites of his meal.

Seeing Du Heng finish eating and start to clear his tray, Wu Buwei finally spoke up, ”Senior Brother, about what happened this morning, I...”

Du Heng cut him off directly. ”Don’t feel burdened by it. Learn and practice slowly; you can’t become an expert overnight.”

After clearing his tray, Du Heng smiled at Wu Buwei. ”But we have to learn a lesson from this. Be a little more assertive next time, and more decisive when handling things.”

Then Du Heng picked up his tray and walked towards the canteen window. ”By the way, notify the project team members this afternoon. We need to have a case discussion meeting at half-past two. We’ll discuss all the problematic cases together and try to solve all of them.

”Should the leaders attending tomorrow’s ceremony want to visit the hospital rooms, we can’t afford to say anything that would make us a laughingstock.”

After listening to Du Heng, Wu Buwei glanced at him gratefully, then asked with a puzzled expression, ”The leaders won’t understand what we’re discussing, will they?”

”The leaders won’t understand, no. However, tomorrow’s ceremony will definitely be reported on the websites of various hospitals, and our supervising workplace’s website will also be updated. By then, people who do understand will see it.”

Du Heng pursed his lips helplessly. How could news of leaders attending events not be updated by the relevant government departments and workplaces at all levels? Even the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital webpage, which hasn’t been touched in what feels like eight hundred years, will have to post this news after tomorrow’s ceremony.

The afternoon discussion meeting lasted until eleven o’clock at night, leaving Du Heng’s eyes strained. It also gave him a clearer picture of the capabilities of his own hospital staff and the people sent from other hospitals.

This treatment project was less about treating stroke and more about treating paralysis and hemiplegia caused by non-organic lesions.

After a full day of discussions and reviewing the patients’ diagnoses and treatments, Du Heng could only conclude that, apart from Wu Buwei, the others present were barely scratching the surface. His own hospital’s staff hadn’t even reached the threshold.

Out of a total of eighty-seven transferred patients, thirty-two had diagnostic issues. Four patients who initially had hemiplegia had even been treated to the point of complete paralysis.

Du Heng found himself wondering how these hospitals and doctors had managed to deceive these patients and their families for so long without being sued. It was something of a miracle.

After each person received a revised disease record and patients were reallocated, Du Heng concluded the day’s discussion meeting.

Returning to his office, Du Heng glanced at the time and had no desire to go home. All he wanted was to find a place to lie down and sleep.

He took out his mobile phone and saw that Wu Shengnan hadn’t replied to his messages all day. He figured she might still be angry, so he decided to call her. If he didn’t return home for the night and didn’t even call, she would likely be furious.

However, when he called, no one picked up. The second time he called, it rang once before being disconnected.

Du Heng was stunned. What does this mean?

It’s been twenty-four hours already; how come she still hasn’t cooled down?

Du Heng scratched his head in confusion, thought for a moment, and then sent a text message explaining the situation. After that, he got up, headed straight to his dormitory, and fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

In a quiet, dark alley, inside a black sedan, a girl with a ponytail gently nudged Wu Shengnan beside her, motioning to the lit screen of her mobile phone. ”Nannan, answer the phone.”

Wu Shengnan glanced at the mobile phone’s display, then put it down again, her eyes returning to the window.

Seeing the mobile phone screen still lit, the girl with the ponytail reminded her once more, ”Nannan, please answer the phone. Your brother-in-law must be getting worried.”

Wu Shengnan withdrew her gaze and asked with a smile, ”How do you know it’s my brother-in-law?”

”Those big words ’Husband’ on your screen—as if I can’t see them.”

”Don’t worry about him. He made me angry; it’s only fair to make him stew a bit,” Wu Shengnan said with a smile.

As she spoke, the phone stopped ringing, then started again. This time, however, Wu Shengnan immediately declined the call.

The girl with the ponytail glanced at the dark mobile phone screen and leaned against Wu Shengnan. ”Nannan, if you do this, won’t your brother-in-law be too worried about you?”

”No, I didn’t tell him what I was doing today. If I had, he’d be even more worried. His nagging could drive a person crazy.”

Wu Shengnan adjusted her shoulder to let the ponytail girl lean more comfortably, then continued softly, ”If I don’t tell him now and don’t answer his calls, he’ll just think I’m angry and won’t overthink things.”

Just as she finished speaking, the mobile phone lit up again.

Wu Shengnan glanced at it, then gently waved it in front of the ponytail girl, chuckling. ”See? He’s not coming home tonight; he’s still busy at the hospital.

”So, don’t worry. Just focus on the stakeout.”

”Nannan, can I ask you something?”

”Go ahead.”

”How did you meet your brother-in-law?”

Wu Shengnan glanced back at the ponytail girl resting on her shoulder and asked with an amused smile, ”Why the sudden interest in this?”

”I just want to learn from your experience. I also want to find a boyfriend as outstanding as your brother-in-law,” the ponytail girl said, her face full of longing. From her expression, she genuinely wasn’t just flattering Wu Shengnan.

Wu Shengnan chuckled lightly. ”What makes you think he’s outstanding?”

The ponytail girl sat up abruptly, looking at Wu Shengnan in astonishment. ”Isn’t he outstanding? Your brother-in-law is only thirty, already a hospital dean, and he even won a provincial second-class award. His medical skills are incredible too.

”Never mind the rave reviews he gets from our team; just look at how many fans he has online. Even if Brother-in-law wasn’t a doctor, he’d still be a huge internet celebrity.

”He’s handsome, the kind that grows on you, and the more you look at him, the more charming he becomes.

”No matter how you look at it, Brother-in-law is a very outstanding person.”

Wu Shengnan looked at the girl’s star-struck expression beside her, not correcting her, but laughing outright. ”So, he’s outstanding, is he?

”But you don’t know that before we were dating, he would cook for me every day. Once we made our relationship official, however, he hardly ever cooked. Now, he doesn’t even set foot in the kitchen, let alone wash the pots and pans.

”And another thing, his feet smell really bad. Sometimes he doesn’t even wash them. Even when he does wash his feet, I’m the one who has to wash his socks.”

Wu Shengnan looked at the girl with the ponytail, her eyes full of amusement. ”This ’outstanding man’—do you still want to find a boyfriend like him?”
