This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Gong Daoyang listened to Du Heng’s lengthy explanation. He felt there might be some problems with what Du Heng said, but he couldn’t pinpoint the issues at that moment.

However, he understood the overall meaning: the world would keep spinning, regardless of any single person.

Seeing that Gong Daoyang seemed to be wavering, Du Heng immediately continued, ”Gong, you’re not the only one at your station. There’s Instructor Huang and the two deputy directors. They’re not incompetent; they can definitely handle their work. You need to trust the organization, trust your superiors, trust your colleagues, and trust your team.”

Gong Daoyang sighed deeply. ”Well, let me think about it. It’s not that I don’t want to rest, but suddenly taking time off... I’m afraid I’ll have trouble adjusting. I’ve been working since I was twenty-two, and it’s been fifteen years now. Besides this time, the longest break I’ve ever had was a week off when I got married. These past few days in the hospital, I’ve been incredibly restless, almost frantic. If I suddenly go home for a month or two, I genuinely don’t know what I’d do with myself.”

Du Heng laughed. ”Don’t know what to do? That’s easy. Let my sister make a list for you. It can detail every task, every moment: sweeping and mopping floors, wiping tables, taking the children to school, grocery shopping, cooking, picking them up after school, and preparing a sumptuous dinner for my sister in the evening. Also, you’ll be in charge of the twins. Don’t palm them off on your parents. I refuse to believe you’ll have nothing to do then.”

Gong Daoyang’s eyes widened. His idea of ’having nothing to do’ certainly didn’t involve these kinds of chores.

Du Heng was about to suggest more tasks for Gong Daoyang to cure his tendency for needless complaints when Doctor Ma’s voice came from behind him. ”Dean, there’s a patient in the outpatient department who says he has an appointment with you.”

”An appointment?” Du Heng was puzzled; He had no recollection of it. ”Did he say who he is?”

”He said his surname is Song.”

Song? Du Heng suddenly realized. It was Director Song, the one with retracted genitals!

Du Heng felt a wave of relief. It was a good thing he’d come to the hospital this morning; otherwise, he would have completely forgotten his appointment with Director Song.

Knowing who it was, Du Heng immediately said to Gong Daoyang, ”Gong, think carefully about what’s more important: your health or your work. I have a patient to see, so I need to get going.”

Gong Daoyang chuckled. ”Go on, don’t worry about me.”

After bidding Gong Daoyang farewell, Du Heng hurried towards the outpatient department.

Although everyone was working overtime today, each department in the outpatient service only had one doctor on duty, and not all consultation rooms were open.

When Du Heng saw Director Song, he was standing by the entrance of the traditional Chinese medicine outpatient clinic, looking down at his phone.

Du Heng smiled and greeted him, ”Hello, Director Song. Why didn’t you give me a call?”

Hearing Du Heng’s voice, Director Song put away his phone. He laughed and shook Du Heng’s hand, saying, ”I can’t always bother you, Doctor Du. It’s better to follow the rules.”

Seeing Director Song again, his smile was still present, but compared to three days ago, it seemed more sincere, and his demeanor was more relaxed.

Once inside the consultation room, Du Heng asked the on-call doctor to leave, then sat down with Director Song for a detailed discussion.

”Director Song, how are you feeling after taking the medicine?”

Director Song let out a breath, his face beaming with even more joy. ”The effect is excellent. Although I still occasionally feel the sensation of retraction, it doesn’t actually happen anymore. The cold sensation in my lower abdomen still appears, but it doesn’t rush to my head anymore; it’s fleeting and vanishes quickly.”

Du Heng carefully observed Director Song’s complexion and examined his tongue coating. Noticing he seemed a bit feverish and restless, Du Heng asked, ”Are you experiencing any discomfort?”

Director Song thought for a moment. ”After taking the medicine, I always feel very hot and tend to sweat a lot. Especially when I eat, I sweat very easily.”

Just as I suspected. It seemed the previous prescription to warm the liver and kidney had been quite effective. However, Director Song’s body appeared unable to fully handle it, showing signs of excessive internal heat. ”Is your sweating excessive?” Du Heng asked.

”Not excessively. It’s just that my forehead and back get slightly damp each time after I take the medicine or when I eat.”

Du Heng nodded and took Director Song’s pulses in both wrists.

”This is a normal reaction; don’t worry too much,” Du Heng reassured Director Song with a gentle smile.

The analysis of Director Song’s condition and the subsequent medication plan had already been discussed three days prior, and Wu Buwei had proposed a relatively sound approach.

”Director Song, in traditional Chinese medicine, there’s a principle: if a prescription is effective, you don’t change it. So, I’ll continue with the previous one. However, since you’re experiencing symptoms of heat, I’ll add peony and licorice to this prescription.”

Du Heng logged into his account on the computer, found Director Song’s file, and began to write a new prescription. ”In Chinese herbal medicine, sour and sweet ingredients can nourish Yin. So, I’ll use these two herbs to nourish Yin through their sour and sweet properties, aiming to nourish Yang by supporting Yin. This way, we can warm the liver and kidney while also reducing your symptoms of excessive heat.”

In the time it took to say these few sentences, Du Heng had finished writing the prescription, and the printer started whirring as it printed. Du Heng turned back to Director Song with a smile. ”Director Song, this time it’s six doses of medicine—one in the morning and one in the evening—still a three-day supply. Come see me immediately after you finish it.”

Director Song’s condition had already improved, and his anxiety had eased. Hearing Du Heng’s instructions, he nodded eagerly in agreement.

Du Heng continued, ”You must avoid spicy and stimulating foods, and absolutely no alcohol. Pay close attention to this. Also, avoid impulsive behavior; you must abstain from all sexual activity. No activities of that nature whatsoever.”

The smile on Director Song’s face stiffened for a moment, his expression becoming slightly awkward.

Du Heng didn’t say much more after that. He chatted with Director Song for a while longer before seeing him off.

After finishing his work at the hospital, Du Heng went home to pick up Wu Shengnan, and together they hurried to Lawyer Zhou’s firm. He needed to go sign the papers now and see exactly how much money he’d be getting for the past six months.

Lawyer Zhou was already waiting for Du Heng. As a new mother, she exuded a maternal glow.

”Lawyer Zhou, you’re working too hard! You’re back already, and you haven’t fully recovered?” Du Heng joked with a smile after introducing Wu Shengnan to Lawyer Zhou.

Lawyer Zhou smiled gently, exuding an air of comfortable ease. ”Isn’t it because I have to deal with your affairs, President Du? I came to keep an eye on things and urge them to work faster. Besides, I can’t bear to be apart from my little one right now. My father has also recovered quite well, so I need to spend more time with him.”

While chatting, she handed Du Heng a set of prepared documents. ”President Du, please take a look. This is the settlement contract with the pharmaceutical factory and the fees you owe my law firm. After confirming that everything is correct, please sign at the end. We will then help you deal with the tax issues.”

Du Heng nodded, took the documents, and began to review them with Wu Shengnan.

Suddenly, Wu Shengnan gasped softly, ”Husband, is it this much?”

Hearing Wu Shengnan’s exclamation, Du Heng’s eyes also widened. He looked over the formal Chinese numerals written at the end, then counted the Arabic numerals preceding them.

One.

Two.

Three.

...

Seven figures, starting with an eight—over eight million.

Even though Du Heng now had the system, which provided a monthly subsidy of 200,000 yuan, this sum truly paled in comparison to over eight million.

The money, at this moment, had truly become just a long string of numbers. Drawing on his thirty-odd years of life experience, he suddenly had no idea how to spend it.

The biggest expense he could immediately think of was buying a house; beyond that, he couldn’t find another way to quickly reduce the number of digits in this sum.

Lawyer Zhou, seeing their shocked expressions, smiled and said, ”Actually, this figure only covers the period starting from April, so it’s just for three months’ worth of royalties. Moreover, I chatted with Mr. Liao, and he mentioned that sales for the two drugs from the pharmaceutical factory are increasing month by month. If there are no unforeseen issues, President Du should be able to receive an eight-figure royalty by the end of the year.”

Du Heng swallowed hard. After looking at the number again, he asked in a hoarse voice, ”Lawyer Zhou, are you sure this number is correct?”

”Of course. I went with a professional accountant to audit the accounts. And your classmate, Mr. Liao, hasn’t played any tricks with the books. So, this number is absolutely correct.”

Du Heng felt his mouth go dry. He exchanged a look with Wu Shengnan; both their eyes held a hint of bewilderment.

Incomes of tens or hundreds of thousands of yuan were still within their understanding. However, an income in the seven or eight figures completely shattered their preconceived notions.

At this point, Lawyer Zhou continued, ”By the way, President Du previously borrowed two million yuan from Mr. Liao. This amount will be directly deducted from the payment. Mr. Liao mentioned this was agreed upon with you beforehand.”

Du Heng pursed his lips, nodded, and said, ”Yes, that’s right. I borrowed the money in early June—or rather, it was an advance.”

”Mm, Mr. Liao showed me the papers you signed at the time. I didn’t ask too many questions then, figuring I’d confirm it with you when we settled the accounts. As long as there are no issues, it’s fine.”

Listening to Lawyer Zhou, Du Heng took a deep breath to calm his racing heart. Then, he picked up the pen, signed his name, and pushed the documents back to Lawyer Zhou.

Lawyer Zhou smiled as she took them. ”Alright, our firm will handle the remaining paperwork. President Du, you can just wait for the money. It will definitely be in your account by next Wednesday at the latest.”

”Thank you for your hard work, Lawyer Zhou.”

”Not at all, President Du,” Lawyer Zhou replied. ”We’re just doing our job.”

After some more casual conversation, Du Heng and Wu Shengnan took their leave. When they got into the car, both were still lost in thought about that string of numbers.

After sitting quietly in the car for a while, Wu Shengnan suddenly asked, ”Husband, why didn’t you examine that contract more closely just now? What if she tricked you?”
