This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

At this point, the intern who was speaking and the few resident physicians all paused for a moment.

Watching the two attending physicians disappear through the doorway, they suddenly realized. Why think so much? The man is right here, about to set broken bones with his bare hands! This kind of bone setting technique is almost gone from regular hospitals. Instead of going to witness and learn, we’re here chattering. Are we out of our minds?

Besides, fractures in pregnant women are relatively rare, but when they do happen, they’re quite troublesome. So now, isn’t this a perfect combination of a pregnant woman with a fracture and traditional bone setting? If we don’t learn now, when will we? Even if we can’t master it, at least we can broaden our horizons.

Realizing this, the resident physician who had spoken earlier stood up and cleared his throat softly. ”Well, you all can sit for a bit. I’ve always been curious about traditional Chinese medicine’s bone setting. I’ll go take a look. You all chat, you all chat.”

Then, with his hands in his pockets, he leisurely walked out.

This left the others somewhat dumbfounded, and they all stared in unison at the departing figure.

”That guy’s something else.”

No one knew who said it, but as the words faded, everyone stood up together. ”I’m curious too.”

”Let’s go together, together.”

The group bustled into the hospital room, only to see the bald Jin Zan chatting with Dr. Wang. They all quietly found good spots for observation.

”Move in a little, I can’t see.”

”You’re tall, stand at the back.”

”Yes, yes, let’s all be considerate and make some room.”

However, their sudden arrival made the originally spacious hospital room a bit cramped. They all crowded around the pregnant woman, completely blocking the view of the girl with the orthosis behind them.

The girl was initially startled by the sudden influx of people. But when she realized they were all there to watch the spectacle and were blocking her view, she became annoyed.

She reached out and tugged at the back of a figure in front of her.

The figure turned around, revealing a young man with thick eyebrows, large eyes, and sharply defined features. ”What’s wrong?”

The young man had a handsome face, but the girl only glanced at him for a moment before looking away. The acne on his face was too severe—enough to make someone with trypophobia feel ill. ”Excuse me, you’re blocking me.”

The young man seemed used to such gazes. He glanced at the girl and turned straight back around. ”It has nothing to do with you. You don’t need to look.”

”Then why are you allowed to look?”

”We’re here to learn, so of course, we can look.”

The young man showed no particular courtesy one might expect towards a pretty girl.

Although the girl was fairly good-looking, her neck and shoulders were encased in the orthosis, which stretched her neck, making it look unnaturally long. So, no matter how pretty her face was, her overall image wasn’t exactly attractive.

But pretty girls are often proud. Even with her neck stretched like a giraffe’s, she still thought she was beautiful and deserved some special privileges.

She tugged the young man again. ”Move aside. I want to see too.”

But the young man was unaccommodating. He merely glanced at her, then shifted his butt slightly, as if to say he’d made an effort. Whether she could see or not was no longer his concern.

The girl was very annoyed and tugged the young man once more. ”Are you going to move or not? If you don’t, I’ll file a complaint against you. There are so many of you, you’re seriously disturbing my rest.”

The young man was an intern. Hearing the word ”complaint,” he had no choice but to reluctantly make way for the girl. However, he ended up uncomfortably squashed against the bedside cabinet.

Seeing the gap that had opened up, the girl smirked triumphantly.

She was very interested in her roommate, who she thought was incredibly cool, the way she ordered her husband around like he was her grandson. She decided she would watch and learn more; it would definitely be useful in the future.

However, when her line of sight finally cleared, what she saw wasn’t her cool idol, but a chubby woman grimacing in pain.

She was very curious. Couldn’t that doctor see how much pain the pregnant woman was already in? Why did he keep squeezing and pressing her swollen arm?

Of course, Jin Zan had also been curious about this, but his colleague Wang had kept pulling him into awkward small talk, so he hadn’t had a chance to ask Du Heng.

When the awkward small talk with Wang finally fizzled out, Jin Zan turned to Du Heng and asked, ”Du, what are you doing?”

”A massage. Can’t you tell?” Du Heng replied without looking up, still diligently performing the massage.

Jin Zan grimaced at the retort. ”I’m not blind. Of course, I know it’s a massage. I’m asking why you’re doing it this way. The patient is already in a lot of pain.”

”Later, I need to push the broken, misaligned bones back into their correct positions. The patient’s currently swollen and tense muscles will make that much more difficult for me.

”At the same time, such tense and swollen muscles will also cause the patient to endure more pain.”

Du Heng’s hands didn’t stop moving as he explained softly, ”Right now, I’m trying to disperse the blood stasis as much as possible, loosen the muscles, and reduce how the swelling constricts the fractured bone. This will make my job a bit easier, and the patient will suffer less pain.”

”Hey, so this bone setting of yours is quite a holistic discipline,” Jin Zan said with a laugh.

Du Heng did not appreciate that comment. Regardless of the crowd, he retorted sharply, ”That’s utter nonsense. When you operate, don’t you consider the patient’s blood vessels, muscles, and fascia? Do you just slice them open, slap in some steel pins and plates, and then sew them up with a couple of stitches?”
