This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng’s proactive promise brought a faint smile to Li Jianwei’s face. ”That’s fine. You’re in a leadership position and know what you should do. As long as you’re clear about your responsibilities.”

Li Jianwei’s voice softened. He patted the materials before him. ”Take all of these back and deal with them as you see fit.”

Then he pulled another stack from the side, pushing it forward. ”These are the patients from our department who need to be transferred to another hospital.

Originally, there were sixty-one patients, but eleven of them didn’t want to be transferred, nor did they wish to participate in the Project activities. So, there are only fifty disease records here.

We prepared these materials a long time ago, and now we’ll hand them all over to you. Starting tomorrow morning, we’ll begin handling the patient transfers.”

Du Heng stared at the two thick stacks of materials in front of him, his eyes slightly dazed.

Although I’m not going to have to process all this myself in the end, given the current situation, it’s still going to be a bit troublesome to carry them down to my car.

His eyes darted around Li Jianwei’s office, as if looking for something.

Li Jianwei glanced at Du Heng. ”You’re looking all shifty. What are you looking for?”

”Looking for a cardboard box. Otherwise, with so much, I’d have to make two trips to carry it all.”

”This isn’t a storeroom. Where would I get a cardboard box?” Li Jianwei sighed. ”Fine, I’ll have someone help you carry them down later.”

”Heh heh, thank you, Teacher.”

Li Jianwei shook his head disapprovingly. ”You don’t need to thank me. Just fulfill the promise you made, and I’ll be more than grateful.”

Hearing this, Du Heng felt a headache coming on.

Although I’ve already decided to be a good student and a good Teacher next semester to ensure my Master’s degree graduation goes smoothly and not cause any trouble for the School, I still feel somewhat embarrassed hearing about these tasks.

Seeing that Li Jianwei was about to begin his patient persuasion, Du Heng quickly said, ”Teacher, don’t worry. Any tasks unfinished this semester, I’ll accomplish twice as much next semester. I won’t trouble you again.”

Li Jianwei opened his mouth, looking helplessly and speechlessly at Du Heng. He’s too brazen, he thought. But he found himself unwilling to berate this student, even though Du Heng sometimes didn’t act like one.

”Alright, I’ll find someone to help you carry this stuff down. You should get going. If we keep talking, I might just die of exasperation.”

Li Jianwei waved his hand dismissively, then stood up and walked outside. In a short while, he returned with two Interns. ”You two help Deputy Director Du carry these things down and load them into his car.”

The two young men nodded. Without any unnecessary words, they picked up the materials and left.

Du Heng also picked up a small stack, bid Li Jianwei goodbye, and quickly followed the two Interns to the parking lot.

After placing the items in the car, Du Heng expressed his thanks. Under their envious gazes, he stepped on the gas, and the car roared away.

He had originally planned to go home for dinner with Wu Shengnan, but halfway there, he received a call from Wu Shengnan’s father inviting him over.

After dinner, Wu Shengnan’s father called Du Heng into his study room. ”Xiao Heng, I have something I’d like to ask your opinion on.”

”Please, go ahead, Uncle.”

Du Heng wasn’t surprised by Wu Shengnan’s father’s words.

After all, we just had dinner together a couple of days ago. If there wasn’t something specific, my future father-in-law wouldn’t invite me over again so soon. Besides, he’s very busy and doesn’t have much time for family dinners and chats.

”I saw the News about you online, and Nannan also told me... you can diagnose tumors through pulse diagnosis?” Wu Shengnan’s father asked casually, looking at Du Heng.

He had assumed Du Heng would readily admit it and had already prepared his follow-up questions. However, to his surprise, Du Heng shook his head. ”Uncle, you might have misunderstood. Pulse diagnosis cannot diagnose tumors.”

Wu Shengnan’s father frowned slightly but quickly smoothed his expression, maintaining his easygoing tone. ”Then why did the newspapers say you diagnosed a tumor through pulse diagnosis?”

”That was an exaggeration by the newspaper,” Du Heng said with a wry smile. ”Last year, I diagnosed a journalist. At the time, I was trying to help out a Classmate, so I made it sound a bit mysterious.

Actually, diagnosing a tumor solely through pulse diagnosis is impossible. It’s a comprehensive judgment that combines pulse signs and physical symptoms.

We start with pulse diagnosis and physical symptoms to determine where the patient has inhibited flow of qi and blood, or where there are blockages. Then, we comprehensively assess whether pathological masses or accumulations have formed.

This is a complete process of syndrome differentiation and comprehensive assessment. It’s not that pulse diagnosis alone can diagnose a tumor.

Moreover, there’s a very important distinction: the tumors and Cancer spoken of in Western medicine are quite different from the concept of ’pathological masses and accumulations’ in traditional Chinese medicine.

If one doesn’t understand the Western medical concept of a tumor, a TCM practitioner cannot diagnose it either.”

Du Heng paused briefly, then said seriously, ”If a TCM practitioner, without any external supporting evidence, claims they can diagnose a tumor and its location solely through pulse diagnosis, they are definitely talking nonsense. Ninety-nine percent of the time, they’re a fraud.

One can indeed determine if there’s an inhibited flow of qi and blood in a specific location. But to claim that this inhibited flow of qi and blood *is* a tumor—that’s absolute nonsense.”
