This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng casually put the cup aside and handed the house on the table to Jin Zan.

”After the patient wakes up, her arm will be very painful. And you can’t use painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs here, so I’ve prepared a house for you.”

Du Heng tapped on the table. ”This house won’t affect the fetus’s development in the patient’s abdomen, so it’s safe to use.”

Jin Zan slapped his bald head again. ”How could I have forgotten about this?”

”You’ve forgotten enough things today,” Du Heng glared at Jin Zan.

But he could understand Jin Zan. The entire treatment process today was completely different from his habits of the past few years. It could even be said it was an entirely different matter, so it was normal for him to overlook certain things.

Jin Zan gave an awkward laugh, just about to say something, when Du Heng’s phone rang, so he kept quiet, waiting for Du Heng to finish the call.

However, when Du Heng took out his mobile phone, a bitter smile appeared on his face after seeing the caller ID.

”Hello, Teacher, are you done with your work?” As soon as the call connected, Du Heng immediately put on a flattering smile, the sound of which made Jin Zan, who was beside him, feel nauseous.

”Kid, Jinzhou isn’t that big. Where can you possibly run?” As soon as Du Heng finished speaking, Li Jianwei’s roar came from the other end of the phone.

Du Heng chuckled. ”Teacher, you’ve misunderstood me. I didn’t run away. I’m at the orthopedics department of the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine right now; I just saved a pregnant woman with a fracture.”

”By the way, Teacher, I just met an acupuncturist named Yan. He’s amazing, and he was complimenting you in front of me.”

After the barrage of flattery, Li Jianwei’s roaring voice disappeared. He waited three seconds, then said, ”So you were saving someone, huh? Alright then.”

”Well~~ What did Director Yan say?”

Du Heng smirked. ”He said a lot, like you have a discerning eye, great teaching skills, and so on. Too much to remember.”

”Haha, just keep making things up,” Li Jianwei laughed softly. ”Alright, enough said. Come to my office as soon as you’re done. I’ll wait for you there; I have some things to explain and something to give you.”

”Okay, Teacher, I’ll come over later.”

After hanging up, Du Heng sighed leisurely. I guess I can’t escape what’s coming.

Jin Zan looked at Du Heng with amusement. ”Old Du, I didn’t realize you were so good at flattery.”

Du Heng firmly opposed this evaluation. ”It’s about the fundamental order of respect—Heaven, Earth, Ruler, Parent, Teacher! I am merely showing respect for my teacher and upholding tradition. When you see your teacher, do you just say, ’Hey, what’s up?’ Is that it?”

While saying this, Du Heng rolled his eyes at Jin Zan. ”Alright, hurry up and check. I want to see if there’s any problem with the film. If not, I have to leave.”

Jin Zan sat down at his computer and started refreshing the page over and over, hoping the Inspection Department would prioritize the pregnant woman’s examination.

Du Heng leaned back in his chair, bored from waiting. ”By the way, I was so tense earlier I forgot to mention—after the patient comes back, apply the whole body divine ointment to her arm.”

”That medicine, when used externally, not only accelerates bone healing but also activates blood circulation, relieves pain, and reduces swelling.”

Jin Zan nodded. ”Alright, I just remembered it too. When she comes back, I’ll arrange it.”

He then turned to look at Du Heng. ”By the way, can you prescribe an internal medicine that can accelerate bone healing?”

”Just now, I heard you say that this internal medicine doesn’t have the ability to accelerate healing.”

Du Heng shook his head. ”No, I really can’t prescribe this internal medicine.”

”Why?”

Du Heng looked at Jin Zan helplessly. This kid has really returned all five years of his university traditional Chinese medicine studies to his teachers, without retaining a single bit.

”The patient has a fetus in her womb that’s over ten weeks old, a period of rapid development. If I prescribe an internal medicine to help her bones heal quickly, think about it: will this medicine affect the development of the fetus’s bones?”

”Is that possible?”

”Why not? The fetus is now connected to the mother, and everything the pregnant woman ingests can be transmitted to the fetus through the umbilical cord.”

”If you want to prevent the fetus from being affected, you have to cut off the umbilical supply between the mother and the fetus. But do you think that’s possible?”

Jin Zan shook his head. ”Not possible. I thought Chinese herbal medicine wouldn’t matter.”

Du Heng sighed. ”You’re completely mistaken about that. Chinese herbal medicine is the most critical. A single unsuitable medicinal ingredient can affect the fetus’s development.”

”Take this house, for example. I didn’t dare to prescribe any drugs for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. You know, even a tiny amount of such drugs would doom the fetus in the womb, definitely causing neurological development problems.”

”Also, I didn’t dare to prescribe any cold or cooling drugs. Even a little bit would make the pregnancy unstable. If that happens two or three times, even if the fetus is ultimately saved, the child will definitely have many problems.”

”First, the child’s congenital constitution will be weaker than others, meaning they will be more prone to illness.”

”Do you dare to take such responsibility?”

”Even if you dared, could your conscience bear it?”

”Obstetricians and pediatricians, honestly, must be extremely careful with every examination and medication. A doctor’s slightest negligence could bring lifelong pain to a family.”

Jin Zan nodded as well. ”That’s why I chose orthopedics. It’s simple, direct, and somewhat brutal; I don’t need to consider too many things.”

”But the field of internal medicine, frankly, requires too much meticulousness for me.”

”My personality really isn’t suited for such precise work.”

While speaking, his hands were constantly refreshing the webpage. Finally, a notification appeared under the patient’s name. ”Old Du, it’s here!”

Excited, Jin Zan quickly clicked on the new message. Sure enough, it was the imaging data that had just been taken and uploaded.

At Jin Zan’s shout, Du Heng leaned over. The surrounding onlookers, who had been listening intently, were also filled with curiosity, waiting for Jin Zan to reveal the final results.

”Old Du, you’re truly incredible! Look at this image. If we didn’t know beforehand that these lines were seams, looking at the arm as it is now, we’d at most think it was just a bone crack.”

”Alright, I’ll leave the rest to you. I have other things to attend to, so I’m leaving.” Seeing that there were no further issues, Du Heng took off his white gown and tossed it onto Jin Zan.

Before leaving, he couldn’t resist adding, ”You’re such a miser! You only poured me one glass of water. Would it kill you to pour another? Too stingy!”

Jin Zan, still caught up in his excitement, was momentarily stunned by Du Heng’s words.

But before he could offer an explanation, he saw Du Heng already getting up and walking out. He hurriedly rose and chased after him. ”Don’t go! Wait for me for another twenty minutes, I’ll be off work. Come home with me for dinner.”

”You’re too stingy! You wouldn’t even let me have another glass of the hospital’s water, and you expect me to believe you’d treat me to a meal? No way.”

Du Heng laughed as he walked towards the door.

Jin Zan reached out and grabbed Du Heng’s arm. ”We’ve been brothers for over ten years! You know I’m not actually that stingy, right? I just forgot earlier because I was too nervous.”

Du Heng gently patted Jin Zan’s hand away and said with a smile, ”I’m just kidding. My teacher called earlier, you heard him. He’s still waiting for me in his office; it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t go.”

What Du Heng said was reasonable, so Jin Zan didn’t insist further, but he still said, ”Then, after you’re done with your teacher, hurry over. I’ll be at home waiting for you for dinner.”

”Let’s skip it for today. Next time, when everyone has free time. I don’t think I’ll be free early today; I have too much to do.”

Du Heng knew very well what he had been up to, so he had a good sense of how long things would take.

Thus, when he arrived at Li Jianwei’s office, he didn’t even think about trying to slip away. He obediently sat down opposite Li Jianwei.

Seeing such a docile Du Heng, Li Jianwei, who had a bellyful of words he wanted to say, found them all dissolving into a long sigh.

This student... I really can’t bring myself to scold him.

With another long sigh, Li Jianwei took out a thick stack of documents. ”Take a look. These are the agreements signed today with the various Directors. They contain all the items discussed in the meeting room.”

”The sponsorship fees they promised will also be transferred to your project’s dedicated account when the project starts next Monday.”

Du Heng merely glanced at the documents without taking them, asking curiously, ”They signed so quickly?”

Li Jianwei said irritably, ”How could they not be quick? They’ve already been stalling for over ten days.”

Du Heng chuckled, understanding what Li Jianwei meant.

Looking at the chuckling Du Heng, Li Jianwei glared at him again and then continued, ”The preparatory work on my end is all finished as of today.”

”Starting tomorrow, for three consecutive days, patients from our Provincial First Hospital, the Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and the Municipal First Hospital will be transferred to your hospital one after another. Doctors sent by various hospitals for training will accompany them. They can also help you assess the conditions of your current patients.”

”You need to be prepared for their arrival. It’s best if there are no slip-ups; otherwise, you’ll really lose face.”

Du Heng straightened his back and nodded firmly. ”Don’t worry, Teacher. My team is the best, and there absolutely won’t be any problems.”

Li Jianwei nodded. ”I hope so. One more thing: on Monday, Director Zhuo is going to attend the project launch ceremony, so you should be aware of that.”

Du Heng was suddenly stunned and said doubtfully, ”Ceremony? I haven’t prepared any ceremony.”

”Then prepare one now,” Li Jianwei looked at Du Heng helplessly. Such a smart kid, why can’t he think straight sometimes?

Du Heng tapped his fingers on the table. ”Does Elder Martial Uncle have to attend?”

”What’s wrong? He’s coming to give you face and support, and you’re not happy about it?”

”No, no, Teacher, you’re overthinking it,” Du Heng hurriedly explained.

Li Jianwei looked at Du Heng, his expression one of resignation. ”Also, in public situations, don’t call him Elder Martial Uncle. It’s better for both you and your Elder Martial Uncle.”

Du Heng raised an eyebrow. Self-deception? Who isn’t wise to that old trick? ”Don’t worry, Teacher, I have enough sense for that.”
