This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Let me make a phone call and ask.”

After Wu Shengnan’s reminder, Du Heng remembered he was due to collect some money, so he picked up his mobile phone and dialed Lawyer Zhou’s number.

”Lawyer Zhou, I hope I’m not disturbing you.” The call was answered before it even completed a single ring, which startled Du Heng.

”President Du, hello! I was just picking up my phone to call you. Your call came in so suddenly, it gave me a scare.” Lawyer Zhou chuckled on the other end. ”Did you somehow know I’d just finished all the procedures here, and that’s why you called?”

”What procedures?” Du Heng was stunned for a moment, then it clicked. ”Are you talking about the authorization fee? You’ve finished all the procedures?”

”Pretty much. The accounting with your friend’s pharmaceutical factory is all settled. Once I confirm with you, the payment will be made next week. After that, it’s just handling the tax reporting once the funds arrive in your account.” Lawyer Zhou was in an excellent mood; every word he uttered seemed to carry a cheerful lilt. ”I was just about to call you to arrange a meeting for tomorrow to give you an update.”

”An update? You’re too kind. I’m the one who should be thanking you for handling these matters.” Hearing that the procedures were almost complete, Du Heng couldn’t help but grin.

Receiving money... who wouldn’t be happy about that?

”Please don’t say that. I’m the one getting paid; I work for you.”

Listening to Lawyer Zhou’s cheerful tone, Du Heng laughed along. ”Alright then, I won’t ask for all the details. Just tell me, how much will I be getting?”

”Let’s discuss this in person when we meet tomorrow. I’ll leave a little suspense and a surprise for you then.”

”Alright then, see you tomorrow.”

After hanging up, Du Heng looked at Wu Shengnan with a grin. ”So, how about it? Want to meet Lawyer Zhou with me tomorrow? You can also hear how much I’ve actually earned.”

”Sure, I happen to have the day off tomorrow.” Wu Shengnan readily agreed with a smile.

「The next morning.」

Du Heng didn’t go directly to Lawyer Zhou. Instead, he went to the hospital first. With patients being transferred over the last few days, there had been many complications, and he couldn’t feel at ease without checking in himself.

”Buwei, how’s the situation?” Upon arriving at the hospital, the first person Du Heng sought out was Wu Buwei.

Wu Buwei’s eyes were a bit bloodshot, and he didn’t appear well-rested; it was obvious he hadn’t slept well the night before.

Hearing Du Heng’s question, Wu Buwei picked up his folder and flipped through it for a moment before replying, ”Senior Brother, I went over all the patients transferred from Provincial First Hospital yesterday. I didn’t find any issues; standard treatment should be fine.”

Du Heng took the folder from Wu Buwei and carefully went through the brief descriptions of the patients’ conditions. He didn’t find any significant oversights and returned the folder to Wu Buwei.

”The patients from the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine are due to be transferred today. Are we ready on our end?”

”They sent over the materials yesterday afternoon. We’ve already prepared the hospital rooms according to the information.” Wu Buwei tried to sound energetic, but the fatigue on his face couldn’t be hidden.

”Did you not sleep at all last night?”

”No, I stayed up to finish reviewing the disease records sent over from the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Luckily, there weren’t many patients, only a dozen or so, so I finished quickly. It’s just that I found some of their treatment methods a bit questionable, so I spent some extra time on them.”

Du Heng patted Wu Buwei’s shoulder. ”I’ve personally reviewed all the patients from Provincial First Hospital; there shouldn’t be any major issues there. As for those from the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I wasn’t involved in most of their cases—they diagnosed and treated them independently. So, you’ll need to pay extra attention to them.”

He then smiled at Wu Buwei. ”It’ll be tough for the next few days, so work hard. Make sure to keep up with the training and don’t fall behind. If you’re ever unsure about a diagnosis, come to me. Once this busy period is over, I plan to make your role as temporary treatment team leader official, and I’ll hand over the entire stroke research group for you to manage.”

Wu Buwei hesitated for a moment.

This project team was different from his time at the Health Clinic.

Back then, in the entire treatment team, he had the most seniority and the best skills. Aside from still being a bit inexperienced in diagnosis, he made all the decisions throughout the treatment process.

But now, the environment was different. After the team’s reorganization, everyone else in the group, apart from himself, was an attending physician. Moreover, these individuals already had experience in this field. He no longer held a clear advantage among them.

However, being the leader of such a project team was an excellent opportunity for growth and a significant career booster. It would be very beneficial for his future professional path, and he was somewhat reluctant to give up the chance.

He looked at Du Heng, a conflicted expression on his face for a moment. ”Senior Brother, can I really do it?”

”Work hard for these next few days, perform well, and make sure nothing goes wrong. No one will be able to take this position from you.”

Du Heng chuckled softly. ”Among our own people, well, their skill level is what it is; hardly any of them have experience with stroke cases. As for those from other hospitals, they’re here for training and studying. Even if their skills were better, I wouldn’t appoint them as team leader. Besides, their skills aren’t necessarily better than yours—you need to have confidence in that. So, go for it with peace of mind. Don’t overthink it.”

This had been decided back when he first asked Wu Buwei to join him. He was now just reassuring him to set his mind at ease.
