This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

After the young man finished speaking, Wu Shengnan nodded and asked, ”Do you think it’s feasible?”

”It’s feasible, but who’s going?” The young man’s gaze began to waver, his eyes darting between Wu Shengnan and Hao Hongxia. But after a glance at Wu Shengnan, he immediately remembered she was the deputy team leader and quickly shifted his gaze to Hao Hongxia.

At this moment, Wu Shengnan also looked at Hao Hongxia.

Hao Hongxia was startled by their gazes, instinctively crossing her arms tightly over her chest as if fending off an improper advance. ”I can’t do it, I really can’t.”

The young man looked Hao Hongxia up and down, then pursed his lips. ”You do have some self-awareness. Not well-developed in the front or the back, just a beanpole. How laughable.”

Hao Hongxia’s face turned red. She glared at the young man and retorted, ”Even a beanpole like me wouldn’t let you take advantage!”

The young man was speechless. ”Damn, that was days ago, and you still remember it!”

”It’s because you still harbor wicked intentions!”

”When did I harbor wicked intentions?” The young man immediately protested, unable to stop himself from saying, ”No wonder the old saying goes, ’It is only women and petty men that are difficult to deal with.’ That’s truly a wise saying! I just made a joke three days ago, and you still remember it.”

Hao Hongxia felt indignant and was about to open her mouth to argue further with the young man.

But Wu Shengnan raised a hand, interrupting them. ”Alright, stop arguing.”

The two immediately fell silent, their actions so synchronized it momentarily stunned Wu Shengnan.

Looking at the young but surprisingly shrewd pair, Wu Shengnan said to the young man in exasperation, ”You get out of the car and keep watch here. I’ll drive home for a bit.”

The young man’s eyes lit up. ”Leader Wu, are you going to handle this personally?”

”Shut up. Get out of the car.”

Wu Shengnan simply ignored the young man, got out, and prepared to switch to the driver’s seat.

Just as she settled into the driver’s seat, Du Heng’s words from that morning immediately surfaced in Wu Shengnan’s mind: ”Don’t be impulsive.”

Don’t be impulsive? Wu Shengnan hesitated. Am I being impulsive now?

After thinking carefully, she realized that she was indeed being impulsive. Why? Was it because of the stares from her office colleagues? To prove myself? Or... to show off?

Wu Shengnan stared blankly out the car window. The thoughts suddenly flashing through her mind sent an instant shiver down her spine.

No wonder Du Heng always said I was impulsive. No wonder he didn’t like me doing this job. Given my tendency to get hot-headed and act on every whim, it’s a testament to his good temper and patience that he hasn’t blown up at me by now.

Moreover, if I really use this ”lure the snake from its hole” tactic now, I’ll face criticism regardless of success. If I succeed, I’ll be labeled as reckless and credit-grabbing. If I fail, not only will I be in danger, but I’ll also drag my two companions into it.

And thinking about it carefully, the risk of failure is even greater. Among the three of us, although I’ve been on the force the longest, my time on the front-line team is comparable to theirs—just a few months more. My only advantage is having experienced one dangerous mission. But the other two? They’re absolute rookies; otherwise, Leader Zhang wouldn’t have personally brought them. Three people with practically zero experience, planning to catch a cunning psychopath—just thinking about it is incredibly audacious.

Once Wu Shengnan understood this, her gaze became resolute. She turned to the young man outside the car and said, ”Get in.”

The young man was taken aback and asked doubtfully, ”I’m going too? Then who’ll keep an eye on things here?”

Wu Shengnan exhaled lightly. ”Based on our observations these past few days, this person keeps a very regular schedule and never goes out during work hours. Besides, he’s unlikely to commit a crime in broad daylight. Let’s not tail him for now. We’ll come back when he’s about to get off work.”

Wu Shengnan was the leader now, and the young man was obedient. He immediately opened the passenger door and got in. Then Wu Shengnan stepped on the gas and drove off.

Meanwhile, Du Heng, who had just finished chatting with others, felt an inexplicable irritability for some reason. Even when he went to the hospital rooms and discussed patient cases with everyone, his mood didn’t improve, leaving him feeling absent-minded.

After Wu Buwei finished summarizing a patient’s condition, Du Heng stood up. ”There are no major issues, but the medication is still a bit conservative. Increase the parsnip by five grams, add ten more grams of sojutsu var, and also add radix trichosanthis—six grams will be enough. Alright, you all continue chatting. I’m leaving first.”

After speaking, Du Heng hurried out of the office. His brow was furrowed the entire way, as he genuinely couldn’t understand what was causing it.

It wasn’t until he wandered around and heard the distinct cries of children that his mood suddenly brightened. The agitation in his heart vanished with the sound of their crying.

Du Heng looked closer. Somehow, he had wandered into the Pediatric Ward of the Gynecology and Pediatrics Department.

Now that his heart felt lighter, even the piercing cries of the children no longer seemed jarring. He ambled slowly towards the hospital rooms, hands clasped behind his back.

Truth be told, this was the first time he had come to the new Pediatric Ward since the wards were reorganized.

Compared to before, the Pediatrics Department had far fewer hospital rooms. It no longer occupied an entire floor; only a row of hospital rooms on the left side was retained. The other side was entirely allocated to the Chinese Medicine Department, to be used as a ward for treating pediatric cerebral hypoplasia.

Both sides were filled with children, some older, some younger. Though one side was for traditional Chinese medicine and the other Western, the clamor was largely the same.
