This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Shengnan didn’t let Du Heng dwell on it, saying directly, ”The detachment leader just called. He told me that at the detachment meeting that just ended, I was nominated as the deputy leader of the First Brigade. They want me to go back to the team for a talk this afternoon.”

Du Heng’s forehead felt heavy for a moment, and it was as if a string in his ears had been sharply pulled.

It took him a while to recover. He had always been trying to find ways for Wu Shengnan to leave the front-line team. In the end, she was unexpectedly promoted within it.

But considering Wu Shengnan’s work in the past four months, was she qualified for promotion?

Then it dawned on Du Heng.

If it was based purely on achievements, Wu Shengnan definitely wasn’t the top candidate for promotion. But promotion wasn’t just about achievements, just like his own jump from the Health Clinic to the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital—that definitely wasn’t something achievements alone could accomplish.

Du Heng let out a long sigh. He understood that Wu Shengnan’s job change wasn’t her own active request; the environment was pushing her forward.

Now, it all depended on Wu Shengnan’s own attitude.

After quickly mulling it over, Du Heng basically understood the dynamics at play. His earlier agitation subsided, and he slowly calmed down.

Similarly, Wu Shengnan had always known Du Heng’s thoughts about her job. After telling him the news, she said no more, waiting for Du Heng to process it. Of course, she was processing it herself too.

This change in position not only disrupted Du Heng’s plans but also her own.

She had already been gradually withdrawing from the front-line team. She was getting married soon, and after that, she planned to start thinking about having a child. She was already preparing for all of this.

However, this sudden transfer put her in a difficult position.

In the past, she could be willful and do whatever she wanted. But now, she couldn’t help but consider Du Heng and the small family they were about to build.

Yet, this job was what she had always longed for, and the First Brigade was in such a state right now. She was truly in a dilemma.

Du Heng’s clear sigh reached her ears, and her spirits plummeted.

”Baby, do you want this job?” Du Heng asked softly. ”Don’t worry about anything else. Just tell me what you truly think.”

Wu Shengnan took a deep breath. ”Honey, I love this job. And I’ve told you about the current situation in the team; I probably can’t leave for the time being.”

”But rest assured, once Leader Zhang recovers and these current cases are wrapped up, I will leave the front-line team.”

As she spoke the last few words, Wu Shengnan’s mood inevitably dipped.

Unexpectedly, just as she finished speaking, Du Heng’s gentle voice came through, ”Baby, since you like it, then do it well. I support you. Don’t worry about other things; I’ve got your back.”

”Really?” The surprise was so sudden it made Wu Shengnan nearly jump. Her excited exclamation made Du Heng instinctively move the phone a little further from his ear.

After Wu Shengnan finished shouting, Du Heng continued, ”But I have one condition.”

”Just name it, Honey! I’ll agree to anything!” Wu Shengnan’s voice was brimming with excitement.

”You have to change your impulsive habits. Always think three times before you act, and no matter what, safety comes first,” Du Heng said very seriously. ”And now that you’re a leader, you’re not just responsible for yourself; you have to be responsible for your team members too. They’re following you, not for you to gamble with their safety to fulfill your impulsive dreams.”

”Mmm, I’ll definitely change. I’ll listen to you.”

Du Heng sighed. ”Just be careful. And another thing, don’t just disappear like this time. Tell me where you’re going and what you’re doing.”

”If you can’t tell me because of regulations, then at least let me know you’re safe when you have time. Don’t make me worry.”

”Mmm, it won’t happen again.”

”Alright, go on with your work. Come home when you’re done.”

”Love you, Honey! Mwah!”

”Mwah my hammer!”

”Hehe, I’ll ’mwah’ that ’hammer’ of yours when I get back.”

”Get lost! Shameless.”

After hanging up, Du Heng slumped into his office chair, staring blankly at the ceiling.

He wasn’t sure how long his mind had been blank. Then, a sudden knock on the door startled him.

”Come in.” As he spoke, he quickly straightened up. Such a slumped posture was rather unsightly.

”Dean, I’m back!” Even before the person entered, a cheerful voice preceded him into the office. Then Kang Zhirong walked in, face beaming.

Seeing Kang Zhirong, Du Heng was momentarily taken aback; he’d completely forgotten he had sent Kang Zhirong out of town.

”I’m back, Dean,” Kang Zhirong repeated with a grin.

Looking at Kang Zhirong’s smiling face, Du Heng couldn’t help but smile back. He pointed to the stool in front of him. ”Quick, sit down, catch your breath.” He even poured Kang Zhirong a glass of water.

”So, tell me quickly. You were supposed to be back in two days. What took so long? And not a single call! If it weren’t for your daily video updates, I’d have thought you’d run off.”

Kang Zhirong chuckled, taking a sip of water. ”Sir Zhang was so insistent on me staying, I felt it would be rude to leave.”
