The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1089: Chapter 1089: I Suspect He’s an Impostor

Song Ci inevitably had something on her mind, making it hard for her to sleep well. She woke up before dawn.

As soon as she stirred, the nanny sleeping on a small couch by her bed woke up as well, turned over, and sat up. She asked, ”Madam? Do you need some water?”

”Yes, did I disturb you?”

”This old servant is a light sleeper by nature.” The nanny got up, walked to the table, poured a cup of warm water from the thermos and brought it to Song Ci, assisting her to drink, then put the lampshade back on, and said, ”You should sleep again, there’s still a long time until dawn.”

Song Ci said, ”As I get older, I can’t sleep deeply anymore. If you’re not sleepy, why don’t you come up here and lie with me? We can chat.”

”If you want to talk, I can sit here.” The nanny refused.

Song Ci said willfully, ”How comfortable can that small couch be? It’s hard to move. Hurry up and come up here, or I’ll just have to go for a walk and catch some northwest wind.”

The nanny: ”...”

I’ve never seen such a capricious and willful old lady.

You win! Fine!

She lifted the quilt and lay down next to Song Ci, looking at the top of the canopy bed.

”Isn’t it much more comfortable than sleeping on the small couch?” Song Ci asked with a smile.

The nanny looked at the canopy top and said, ”I’m used to it. When I was younger, serving the noble people in the palace, it was always like this. Palace maids can never sleep deeply, are not allowed to sleep deeply. Being able to lie on the couch is already a gift from the master. Some could only sit at the end of the bed with just a blanket around them. Oh, and those outside the sleeping chamber slept by the Palace Gate.”

”Isn’t that hard?”

”What palace maid’s life isn’t hard? It’s all about enduring. If you sleep soundly and can’t hear the master’s movements, any issue could cost you your life, not just your job, so no palace maid dares to truly sleep soundly,” the nanny said softly. ”If you do, the training nannies would give you a few beatings to remember, and after remembering long enough, you wouldn’t dare anymore.”

Song Ci turned her body slightly and said, ”It has been hard on you.”

”I’m used to it. It’s quite good now.”

Song Ci fell silent, suddenly whispered, ”Nanny, did you see Prince Min when you were younger?”

The nanny turned her head to glance at her and said, ”Do you still remember what Sang’er said today? You suddenly picked this up.”

Song Ci mumbled, ”I was just sick and dazed, it seemed like someone said this to me.”

The nanny frowned and said, ”I only saw him once when I was very young. He was still young at that time. He was sent to his fief at six. I only saw him again when he returned to the capital in the past couple of years. If you ask me what to make of him, I don’t really know.”

Song Ci boldly said, ”Do you think this Prince Min is really the former emperor’s son?”

”Madam, be careful with your words,” the nanny said, covering her mouth and speaking softly. ”He certainly is. Don’t be fooled by how silly Princess Consort Ji appears; she had true feelings for the former emperor, she would never betray him. Besides, the palace has always been strict. When a concubine gives birth, many are watching, not to mention that even the Empress Dowager would have people present, and the Jingshi Hall keeps a close watch to prevent anyone from pretending to have royal blood.”

Song Ci objected, ”No matter how careful, mistakes can happen. Those plays about a civet cat swapping for a Crown Prince are enacted.”

The nanny chuckled, ”A play is ultimately a play. Do you really think Prince Min is a fake, an imposter? It’s impossible. If he were fake, the former emperor wouldn’t have valued him so greatly.”

”What if he became fake after the former emperor’s passing?” Song Ci blurted out.
