The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1081: Chapter 1081: Disturbed by a Spirit?

When Song Ci suddenly fell acutely ill, Chunhui Hall became tense as if facing a major enemy, especially since the illness came fiercely and sharply, leaving people fearful of the time a few years ago when Song Zhiyuan had just been promoted.

After a round of acupuncture by Lin Qing, sweat was visible on her forehead, her face was a bit pale blue, and she felt Song Ci’s pulse, forehead, and palm with her hand, her brows lightly furrowed.

”Has the fever not gone down?” Nanny Gong asked nervously from the side.

Lin Qing shook her head, ”It has gone down a bit, but the body and forehead are hot, while the palm is cold. The fever might decrease slightly now, but it may rise again later; you must keep an eye on her constantly. Let’s take her for a medicinal bath first.”

Nanny Gong nodded and personally wrapped Song Ci in a big blanket, calling for strong maidservants to carry her to the bathing tub in the cleansing room.

Lin Qing and Doctor Lu, who were separated by a screen, matched the pulse readings, and he glanced at her prescribed medicine and the herbs needed for the medicinal bath, nodding in agreement.

”The Madam is elderly, using gentle methods is also good; the important thing is to wait for the heat to subside. If it cannot really go down in two days, then consider using strong medicines. Reduce the bamboo shoots by half a coin, and add a coin of silkworm sand,” Doctor Lu mentioned while pointing at the prescription.

Lin Qing promptly agreed.

Outside, Song Zhiyuan was listening to Nan Shan’s report that Song Ci showed no signs of poisoning by insects or harmful substances, just sudden high fever due to physical weakness. To avoid oversight, she would meticulously check again, starting from the hair.

Song Zhiyuan nodded, waving his hand, saying, ”If there are no signs of poisoning, think about where the Madam went today, and if there was anything unusual. You were constantly watching her, as someone skilled in poisons, you should be the clearest whether the fever is caused by poisoning.”

His voice was calm, yet in Nan Shan’s ears, it was as cold as eternal ice.

Nan Shan shivered slightly and responded respectfully.

Madam Song glanced at the sand clock and reminded, ”Prime Minister, it’s time for court; Jiang Fula has already brought the court clothes and is waiting outside. Change your clothes here before going.”

Song Zhiyuan hesitated.

His mother’s condition was unclear, and he feared the moment he left, bad news would follow.

Seeing this, Song Zhicheng said, ”Brother, you should go, I’ll stay here. Prime Minister Fan is mourning, and the affairs of state are very busy; if you are absent too, the Emperor will have to send someone to bring you.”

Song Zhiyuan knew the importance, but was still worried.

Seeing Doctor Lu and Lin Qing come out together, he immediately stood up and asked them, ”How is my mother?”

With Doctor Lu present, Lin Qing did not speak out of turn, letting Doctor Lu reply according to the treatment they had considered earlier.

Song Zhiyuan pondered and asked, ”Is it not caused by poisoning?”

Doctor Lu hesitated and said, ”Judging by the current pulse readings, it doesn’t look like poisoning; rather, the body is extremely weak, suddenly invaded by wind and an acute attack. As you know, the Madam’s constitution is weak and her age... She went to the Fan Family’s hall to express condolences, the elderly can become afflicted due to evil energy and overthinking, which can also trigger discomfort.”

Many present were women, and upon hearing this, their hearts skipped a beat, worried that the soul of that person at the Fan Family might have collided with her.

Even among Song Zhiyuan and his brothers, for a moment, there was such a thought, but the wise refrain from speaking of supernatural forces, merely keeping it to themselves.

”How about inviting the master from Songshan Temple to the residence to calm Mother?” Madam Song looked at Song Zhiyuan.

Song Zhiyuan nodded, ”Go ahead and arrange it.”
