The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1053: Chapter 1053: The Mischievous Old Lady Starts Forgetting Things

The weather is getting colder, and Song Ci, this elderly person, has been forced to wear thick cotton armor that keeps her warm, with a headband symbolizing old age on her forehead.

Everyone found this attire rather appropriate and elegant, except Song Ci herself, who would always sigh every time she glanced at herself in the copper mirror.

She was already short, and she seemed to grow shorter with age. Her clothes couldn’t be too flashy, so Song Ci decided to change the color of her clothing to purple, which at least appeared grand and noble. As for the vermillion hairpin, she gave up on it; wearing it was so heavy that it bent her neck. She opted for the simplest hairpins or jade hairpins, just so long as they weren’t heavy.

Song Ci looked from head to toe, and her gaze fell on the string of beads on her collar.

”Why is this string of beads taken out to wear?”

Song Ci touched the string of ’fake goods’ given by Prince Min, pinned to her collar, and asked.

In the past, the senior maid Hong You retired from this position, each becoming a shopkeeper’s wife or a steward’s wife. Now, the senior maids serving Song Ci are named according to the seasons.

The chief maid was Chun Fen, responsible for overall management and accompanying her outings, while the one managing clothes and jewelry was named Qing Ming. Her face appeared round and charming, her eyes seemed to always carry a smile.

Upon hearing Song Ci’s question, Qing Ming, with two maid buns, kneeled lightly in greeting and said with a smile, ”I noticed that Madam was wearing purple today, and this string of beads sparkles under the sun, complementing the color very well, so I took it out. Madam, do you find it pretty?”

Song Ci turned around and said, ”It’s alright.”

Qing Ming smiled again, revealing eight teeth.

”I just feel a bit uneasy, always feeling like they’re fake goods,” Song Ci added.

Everyone: ”...”

The Madam really loves joking.

”Please don’t always have ’fake goods’ on your lips. Prince Min’s items, if they’re exquisite, are mostly tributes from others below, who would dare send fake goods?” Nanny scolded.

Song Ci chuckled awkwardly, ”It’s just that these beads look quite like it.”

”Madam, since these seem like fake goods, have you seen the real ones?” Qing Ming asked curiously.

Song Ci thought, I’ve seen a lot in later years, but she bravely said, ”I’ve seen them!”

”Oh, where did you see them?”

”I saw them in my dreams!”

Qing Ming: ”...”

You are truly a mischievous old lady!

Song Ci held onto Nanny’s hand and walked around the screen, taking another look at the maids pulling out the large imperial decree dress to prepare for ironing, along with the matching golden crown. She couldn’t help but pause and pointed to ask, ”Why have these things been taken out?”

Nanny glanced at her and carefully asked, ”Did you forget that it’s the Emperor’s Longevity Festival in a few days? There’s a banquet in the palace, and of course, you’ll be going. The Empress Dowager sent people saying she’s missed you.”

Song Ci paused for a moment and said, ”If you didn’t remind me, I truly would’ve forgotten.”

She felt bewildered and dazed, not understanding how she could forget about the Longevity Festival, as if it never existed in her mind.

Nanny frowned slightly, but then smiled, ”It’s alright to forget; there are always servants to remind you.”

Song Ci said, ”Then you mustn’t leave my side, so I don’t forget this and that. Otherwise, there’s no one else to remind me.” After a pause, she whispered, ”No joke, I really forgot. Have Lin Qing come check my pulse later.”

Nanny was slightly shocked in her heart, but her face remained unchanged, and she changed the subject.
