The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1087: Chapter 1087: The Old Lady Is Afraid of Dying

Song Zhiyuan targeted the officials from Prime Minister Fan’s faction in the court, which couldn’t be concealed. On the same day, someone changed their clothes after court and went to the Fan Family to mourn, needing to cry.

Prime Minister Song is too much of a bully!

The Fan Family members turned green-faced hearing Song Zhiyuan’s arrogance, calling him a mad rascal, but thinking about their own father in mourning, cursing was to no avail, so they had to look at Prime Minister Fan.

Prime Minister Fan had served as prime minister for many years and naturally understood the nature of his opponent. Seeing Song Zhiyuan’s domineering behavior, which was unreasonably different, his first reaction wasn’t anger; instead, he sent someone to investigate what had happened at the Song Mansion.

This investigation revealed a serious issue: after Song Ci went to the Fan Mansion to mourn, he fell ill when he returned, with an unending high fever, seemingly startled. It’s said that a master from Songshan Temple had been invited for the recovery.

The faces of the Fan Family couldn’t turn greener. Surely, it couldn’t be said that he was startled by the soul of their elderly lady from the Fan Family?

What absurdity!

Prime Minister Fan furrowed his brows. Compared to being startled, he feared one thing more: that Song Ci might have been schemed against at the Fan Mansion. If true, compared to obvious attacks, Song Zhiyuan, that sly fox’s secret methods, would be more terrifying.

Publicly, Prime Minister Fan asked his faction to do their jobs well, mind their duties, and avoid the sharp edge.

Privately, he ordered his trusted steward to thoroughly check if there were any evil spirits in the house, so if Song Zhiyuan indeed retaliates, they’d have a response.

In fact, Song Zhiyuan also suspected whether Song Ci had been schemed against at the Fan Mansion, but seeing Nan Shan’s certainty that there wasn’t any poisoning and that they didn’t go looking for trouble, he disdained exploiting someone’s mourning for their mother. After all, his own mother was old as well, accumulating virtue was necessary.

Thus, this year the Song Mansion donated 10% more to the Charitable Hall than in previous years, continued donating at Songshan Temple for three consecutive days, and set up porridge sheds to give warm clothes to beggars and refugees at the City God Temple and so on.

The Song Mansion was so high-profile, almost everyone in the capital knew that Song Ci was sick, with various visiting notes and gifts flying to the Song Mansion like snowflakes, but many were refused.

The Song Family knew well that some people just wanted to use Song Ci’s illness as an excuse to connect with Song Zhiyuan, considering Prime Minister Fan was in mourning, leaving him dominant among the ministers.

Let them do as they will, Song Zhiyuan himself wouldn’t accept such good gestures, as prosperity can lead to decline, and he didn’t want to attract Emperor Chu’s displeasure.

Song Ci was confused for five days before he fully came to and could eat a bowl of porridge with bird’s nest and shredded chicken, but having been sick, taking medicine three times a day, he appeared even more withered, as if aged at least ten years.

Song Ci sighed.

Indeed, he was old.

”The recovery from illness is slow, you’ll gradually regain your spirit.” Nanny comforted softly.

Song Ci replied, ”Regaining spirit, the body is still old, can I really rejuvenate?”

Nanny fell silent, chiding, ”You’re not fully recovered yet, and you’re starting again.”

Song Ci grinned awkwardly.

”If you keep thinking too much, you’ll appear even older.” Lin Qing came in, followed by Ah Sang holding a tray, a faint scent of medicine wafted over.

Song Ci’s face turned sour, feeling the bitterness rising in his stomach again.

In her past life, her health wasn’t too bad, rarely visiting doctors, let alone taking bitter traditional medicine, but this life she had consumed enough to taste bitterness.

Not wanting it but needing it, Song Ci didn’t dawdle, grabbing it in one go as if downing strong wine.

Everyone: ”...”

What a mix of relief and heartache, relieved that the old lady didn’t need coaxing to eat slowly bite by bite, but heartache for the old lady being likely scared, fearing death.

Song Ci sucked on candied fruit, reclining on the beauty couch, beginning to ponder the dream from the elder lady that night.
