Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1348: Chapter 732: School Development

Lance would never placate them with privileges; that so-called tendency to show benevolence in policies would only cause temporary appeasement, and instead, by deliberately marking the differences in identity, they would be driven to gather together.

The human heart is never satisfied. When more people come together, there will be more demands. If you don’t meet those demands, they’ll give you a big problem, and by then, you won’t have a chance to regret it.

Lance has seen too many of these damned things; clearly, it’s something that can be solved by treating everyone equally, yet they insist on leaving a mess for the successors.

He came to Hamlet for three things: fairness, fairness, and damn fairness!

Thus, treat everyone equally, and it’s best if they behave. Anyone who dares to cause trouble will face a heavy punch.

Paracelsus was also very curious about whether the Barbarian Tribes’ physical structure was truly unique...

But there is still a gap in different treatments; it’s a means to encourage them to work actively, giving them hope for striving.

There’s a difference between treatment and privilege; it’s like selecting excellent workers or awards for innovative designs in research institutions. Besides honor, there are also bonuses.

Or military benefits, these are for those who take on more heavy responsibilities and need to risk their lives.

As for the Barbarian Tribe children, they all need to attend school because, if they want to integrate into Hamlet, they must learn the language and writing, understanding that the world is more than just mountains.

Of course, this costs money, but My Lord paid for it instead of going through official subsidy accounts.

Such an obvious favor, this debt is My Lord’s kindness, even Boslake has to bear it, since his son also receives education in school.

My Lord’s favors are never-ending!

However, Lance doesn’t care about such things. Those hundred Barbarian Tribes can’t stir up any waves; the only one worthy of Lance’s attention is the capable and powerful Boslake right in front of him.

”You’ve done well. Miss Dai’er mentioned your son’s situation, and I believe with Hamlet’s medical technology, there’s a possibility of healing. At worst, it can improve the current condition.”

Grendel had also once hinted to Boslake, this half-countryman, that his son’s problem couldn’t be solved in the mountains, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be solved in Hamlet.

He, of course, understands what this means, so he has always been diligently handling the tasks assigned by the Lord, fearing any issues would arise. Now, he finally received a response.

”Thank you, My Lord!”

”Alright, you’ve been here for a while now. You should know that Hamlet never fails its own people. You will understand what kind of person I am after interacting further, and I will never let my people down.”

Lance doesn’t need thanks; his words of wooing were obvious. What he needed was loyalty.

Even though it was just a few empty words, Lance’s reputation alone was enough for Boslake to pledge his loyalty.

”Elders, witness...”

However, just as Boslake began to speak, Lance raised his hand to interrupt.

”So there’s no need to say these things to me, you know what to do.”

Lance doesn’t believe in any vows. No matter how well-spoken, he only watches what you do.

As for this eccentric Lord, Boslake could only comply. After discussing the follow-up matters, he quickly went to take on the tasks.

Even though Alviss was taken away, the army was already prepared, potential conflicts had been resolved, and three champions were left behind. Those who should unite in the town had already come together, so Lance naturally returned to the city.

Walking in Hamlet, the resilience of humanity was vividly displayed; even darkness could not stop them.

After overcoming the most difficult upheaval, they quickly adapted again and found what they needed to do under collective planning.

Many days without sunlight, one could see the slightly pale faces under the firelight. Lance knew the time for delay was over.

Human beings can’t lose the sun, and likewise, plants can’t lose light.

But what restricted him now was instead that others needed rest, to give trusted aide time off, and scholars time to prepare the ceremonial tools.

Lance also needed to use this time to continue thinking of ways to enhance Hamlet’s overall strength, ensuring that his final battle with the Ancestor would not have issues.

And at this moment, the place he came to was the school, which was a place converted from a church.

However, under subsequent construction, it had been expanded to twice its size. On the former graveyard, many buildings were erected, and overall, it no longer had much of the original church’s traces.

With both teachers and students combined, there were likely a thousand people, but interestingly, most students were minors.

Most of the courses taught here are basic enlightenment subjects like literacy and mathematics, which are the most fundamental and needed by these ordinary people.

Of course, the reason for only offering these courses was because there were fundamentally not many teachers available; many of them were novices.

At the beginning, those ’teachers’ would study at night themselves and teach the students during the day. If you were a bit slow in progress, you’d be overtaken by students.

Until later, when the empire’s civil unrest affected the city, a large number of city refugees who had received education poured in, finally alleviating the situation.

But mainly what they still offered was enlightenment education, not haphazardly opening other subjects.

Because this is the entry ticket they most need.

In big cities, academies are mostly like universities, accepting students with some foundation.

While enlightenment teaching is something ordinary people have little access to; nobles or wealthy merchants could hire private tutors, with courses even including music, painting, sculpture, swordsmanship, wine tasting, horsemanship, and others.
