Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1304: Chapter 710: Efforts in Two Directions

”Walking out of this building now is a death sentence; you’re aware of the frenzy of those skeletons.”

Martin understood the insane ideas of these people and realized he wasn’t part of their plan, which equated to a death sentence.

”Staying here is also waiting for death; Hamlet doesn’t believe in dying,” Barret said nonchalantly, and the other trusted aides showed no fear.

”I’ll go with you; without me, you won’t get out.”

Martin quickly made a decision, not out of being moved by the Honor Guard’s actions, but because he thought they made sense.

Actually, the zone where the first echelon was located wasn’t very large compared to the entire route back through the ruins. Building strength through a short-range breakout and then retreating was indeed a feasible strategy. Though it sounded mysterious, it was the best solution at the moment.

There was no time for pointless talk. Suddenly, in the darkness shrouding the ruins, a powerful light pillar erupted, only to shatter into light particles within two seconds, scattering away, yet it provided the scattered individuals with a clear target.

”What is that? It’s the Church’s Divine Art, probably from that Mendicant Monk.”

”Quickly, head over there! The Holy Light has not abandoned us.”

”...”

The Falcon continued to circle overhead, hard to be spotted under the dim sky’s cover, yet the flash attracted it.

Quickly sweeping by, just as the whistle drew it down.

Indeed, the Falcon could understand the whistle, or rather, the Eagle Flock generally used bone whistles to control birds.

Sure enough, the flash brought the Falcon scouting over, pinpointing the enemy’s location.

Once the Falcon ascended again, the squad, along with the Church’s pair, exited the building, and the Skeletons instantly surged forward like a tide.

”The Holy Light shines!”

The Candlelight Priest took the lead, raising his shield to unleash a powerful flash. To ordinary people, this was blinding light, but it forced those wicked entities to retreat, avoiding it.

Casually swinging the Warhammer to shatter those unable to dodge, the impact was akin to a bulldozer driving into the Skeleton horde. Even when some Skeletons scratched, they didn’t even leave marks on the armor.

The Mendicant Monk was protected in the middle of the squad, allowing him to focus more on spellcasting; the previous brilliant flash had drained him significantly.

He had to recover as much as possible, holding up the Magic Wand to cast Divine Arts, and streaks of light flew ahead, igniting the filthy souls of the Skeletons as fuel. The feedback of energy allowed him to recover under the dark sky.

The Transcendent born from the Church had strong sustaining abilities, though earlier, he was besieged and had to cast large-scale Divine Arts to prevent Skeletons from interrupting his spellcasting. Now protected by the Honor Guard, he could operate freely.

The Honor Guard and the Church duo broke through, while the mercenaries chose to remain inside the building.

Watching their tough advance, the mercenaries couldn’t help but mock smugly.

”Wouldn’t it be better to stay put and wait for dawn? Won’t those bones leave then?”

”Exactly, wouldn’t it be better to wait patiently? Why insist on seeking death?”

”...”

No matter what was said, no one paid attention to them, since the scattered trusted aides and some mercenary corps in trouble were consciously moving this way. The flashes in the dark gave them the motivation to persist.

Laura hooked the bow around her waist and held a hammer specifically made for dealing with those Skeletons.

It was essentially a metal hammerhead the size of a fist mounted on a wooden stick as long as an arm. This weapon was very popular in the town recently, basically everyone owned one, with differences mainly in the design of the hammerhead.

Through extensive live testing, it was evident that knives and swords dulled quickly, but hammers didn’t have this concern and were inexpensive, affordable even for scavengers.

Until the Falcon returned, also bringing news from afar.

”Head towards the light pillar, our people are there.”

With that said, she had already gathered everyone to set out, and this team happened to be the one Scorpion ran into, currently trapped inside a building.

After much effort in clearing the place, they now had to abandon the safe spot to go out and fight the Skeletons to the death?

Scorpion couldn’t help but remind them at this point.

”The situation up ahead is unknown. Rushing out might land us in trouble before even finding them. Wouldn’t it be better to stay put until the situation stabilizes?”

”They’ll assist us.” The squad’s leader wasn’t Laura but another trusted aide, speaking with unyielding certainty.

Truth be told, they hardly intended for the Scorpion Mercenary Group to follow, leaving such words behind, they immediately went downstairs under the Falcon’s guidance to prepare for action.

Watching those people, Scorpion’s expression showed conflict, but soon he made a decisive choice.

”Follow them!”

”Huh?” The others didn’t understand, and they naturally felt a degree of discomfort towards Hamlet’s enforcers, having been captured before.

Now they had to undertake such a hazardous action alongside them? Wouldn’t it be better to stay and wait for clearer weather?

”No nonsense; if we want to survive, we must follow them closely. Later, no one should try any tricks; if they live, so will we.”

Scorpion had no time for idle talk. The abnormal weather signaled uncontrollable danger, definitely having a way out alongside the locals, otherwise, stay here and await death?
