Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1314: Chapter 715: Escaping Alive and Strategies for Response

The power of the spellcasters is undeniable; the holy light tearing through the skeleton swarms, the meteors disrupting the rat infestation, or even the teleportation escaping the siege.

It also depends on the nature of the spells. The Mendicant Monk’s mastery of Divine Arts with the holy light is effective against skeletons but feeble against the rat infestation, as he can incinerate a single rat to a husk easily, yet the rat infestation consists of countless rats.

Conversely, Alhazred’s spells wrought massive casualties, whether through the crater-inducing meteor or the engulfing dark flame, both more potent than the previous occasions.

It is evident that given enough preparation time, the prowess of spells can significantly enhance.

And coincidentally, Grendel’s abilities also counter the rat infestation, simultaneously she has been preparing here for quite some time.

Under the blood mist’s influence, perhaps their already meager minds have forgotten something, driven by hunger, they are nothing but empty shells, relentlessly launching an assault on the group, only flesh can satiate their madness.

The skeletons driven by hatred towards the living, intent on destroying everything.

As the pursuers wrapped in skeletons and rats surged forward, Grendel merely raised her magic wand and struck the ground.

A powerful force spread out, the wand with antler-shaped branches sprouting green buds, as if it wasn’t a magic wand but a thriving plant.

No one paid attention to this, for the earth erupted with waves of intertwined roots and stems pushing toward the enemies.

Just as small fish and shrimp cannot resist the waves, neither rats nor skeletons could withstand the relentless force, crushed into fragments or flesh and returned to the earth.

It’s unfortunate the rat infestation was already disrupted, unable to form a daunting scale, otherwise one might have wanted to witness the spectacular collision of two ”waves”.

This scene undoubtedly terrified the rats, their insanity remarkably fragile, unlike the skeletons blindly advancing, they scattered at the slightest touch, seeking any cracks to slip through, or fleeing before the waves reached them.

If these creatures escape, it would be troublesome, but no one can completely stop these little guys.

However, Grendel was unwilling to let them leave, nature’s wrath was clearly not yet unleashed.

The magic wand struck again, the earth previously soaked in flesh quickly sprouted new buds, growing rapidly into bloodthirsty plants.

To outsiders, the rats seemed trapped, countless plants barbarically growing and climbing out, full of serrated resilient grass, thorn-covered vines, and blooming eerie flowers...

Rats were entwined, shredded, confused, even as they desperately gnawed, the teeth capable of biting through bone could indeed bite through plants, even swallow them whole.

But the earth only spawned more plants, the vigorous life force even emanating from the rats themselves, from their flesh, mouths, eyeballs... verdant life erupted from within them.

The moment they stepped into this place, their fate was already sealed, that preparation from a Champion Spellcaster, especially standing on the wilderness, the Force of Nature augmented her further.

In just moments, those pursuing monsters became mere uniquely shaped embellishments.

In front of them stretched an artificial forest hundreds of yards long; though lacking towering trees, it was already filled with many peculiar twisted plants.

No living flesh creatures were visible, rats turned into shriveled strips, countless plants rooted in their bodies.

The pursuing skeletons were all shattered into fragments, even the slightly intact ones clung to various plants, from the ground sprouted fragile but resilient grass from their eye sockets.

Directly obliterating the pursuers, simultaneously sealing off the ruins, no one wanted to enter this man-eating forest.

Though there was no wild growth as before, everyone understood the eerie vitality hadn’t dissipated, merely dormant awaiting activation.

Everyone else breathed a sigh of relief, this evacuation was truly riddled with mistakes, if not for the Church duo, and the Legion with Alviss intervening, Grendel might never have appeared.

The adventurers hadn’t fled far; exhausted, they refused to collapse in fear of not getting back up, but they also looked back towards the others.

Then they witnessed a terrifying scene, the forest suddenly sprang up, effortlessly crushing the pursuers...

By now, the town gathered a considerable number of evacuees, uncertain of what transpired, merely knowing the darkness blanketed and spread throughout Hamlet.

Skeletons surged from the depths of the ruins, devouring many along the escape route, leaving them there forever.

As time passed, the dim sky and the ruins shrouded in blood mist plunged them into panic.

Not without attempts to exploit the chaos, but the management had already mobilized, the army suppressed anyone daring to cause trouble, all arrested.

Oddly, they easily discovered some infiltrated cultists among them, lightly concealed by their corrupt flesh, yet once provoked by the red mist, they lost control.
