Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1305: Chapter 710: Efforts in Two Directions_2

”We’re here to help you. With more hands, we can share more of the pressure.”

Scorpion charged down to declare their stance, and the others could only follow. Although there was a bit of dissent, they still supported the captain’s decision.

The Honor Guard did not say much about this either. At the moment, they indeed needed to unite all possible forces.

The Scorpion Mercenary Group chose to follow and fight their way out, making a difficult advance through the wave of Skeletons.

To be honest, their configuration was still decent. More than twenty people advanced along the edge of the buildings, everyone striving to break through those Skeletons.

Fortunately, lacking flesh, their quality was limited and could be pushed apart. Otherwise, a pile of flesh would have sealed them off.

It was like an arrow struggling to penetrate into bones; they had to complete the puncture before the tip dulled. Otherwise, once they stopped, there would be no way back.

But soon, they found themselves in a predicament, as there were no Transcendents in their team capable of recovery. Competing against the limitless Skeletons in a war of attrition was nothing but a joke. No matter how strong their will, the limits of reality still existed.

Unlike the Honor Guard who had experienced the blood battle at Wild Pit No. 3, these mercenaries didn’t have the same determination born of facing death. Endless scratching would eventually break them. Exhaustion from the strain and the despair of being surrounded began to erode their spirits.

Even Scorpion couldn’t help but doubt whether he had made the right choice, questioning if he had led his trusted comrades to their deaths...

Yet at that moment, the falcon circling above them let out a loud cry, followed by a shout from Laura.

”Right ahead!”

As soon as the words were out, a squad suddenly rushed out from the corner ahead. Compared to before, they were much stronger because more people joined along the way, some from the Honor Guard and some were mercenaries who also chose Hamlet.

The Mendicant Monk held the Magic Wand high in the center, showering Holy Light upon those who were struggling to hold on, quickly healing their wounds and slightly improving their state.

Meanwhile, those Skeletons under the Holy Light avoided like mice encountering a cat, granting the gathered people a moment of respite.

”We’re saved!”

”Holy Light has never been so beautiful.”

”We’re alive, at least for now.”

The heart Scorpion had been clenching also settled back to its place with a relieved exhale, countless words condensed into that single breath.

However, their operation was not yet over. Both sides quickly made contact and determined their course of action before the falcon soared into the sky again to search for others.

They had to get moving again, to continue strengthening their ranks...

Meanwhile, Hamlet’s Army was retreating to defend, building a defense line around the town. Many adventurers had also fled back, though compared to the orderly retreat of the army, their chaos was simply madness.

More vexing for Reynard was how those guys occupied the main road into the town, hindering the Cavalry’s maneuvering.

Additionally, those guys’ escape also drew the Skeletons out, causing them to appear once more in the previously cleared outskirts.

At this time, the flashing deep within the ruins reminded Reynard that he couldn’t delay any longer, and a decision had to be made.

”Eight, nine, ten, you squads lead a troop of Cavalry from this side to lure the Skeletons away. Try to avoid combat. Your task is to attract them and then draw them off.

Four, five, six, seven squads, go disperse the adventurers on the main road. Direct them toward the retreat route. If anyone causes trouble, cut them down. I want this cleared out quickly.

The rest, follow me to seize the watchtower, then support the others. Charge!”

Reynard did not force the troops to charge recklessly. In the current chaos, a hundred Cavalry charging in would only meet resistance. However, they couldn’t exactly just slash down those adventurers either; this was the only way.

Using the trait of the Skeletons to pursue the living, they could use the horses’ mobility to draw them away, relieving pressure on the frontline.

Now the most important task was to drive away those adventurers and then seize the tower to signal.

The combat quality of the Cavalry was quite good, being carefully selected after all. They executed orders without hesitation and began to take action.

Other routes naturally had junior officers giving commands, while Reynard directly led the charge toward the tower. Along the way, Skeletons had no ability to resist under the sword blades, simply crushed under the hooves.

The location of the tower was actually within the outer area of the ruins, but it was clearly related to the city guard stationed there once, as the Skeletons patrolling around bore rusted armor and wielded broken swords.

Even in death, these loyal soldiers remained dedicated to protecting the place. The more troublesome aspect was that these Skeleton warriors retained some combat instincts. Unlike mere clawing, their sword strikes could indeed kill.

Because of this, the powerful adventurers had no interest, and the weak ones couldn’t win, leaving quite a few skeleton warriors behind.

However, to these warriors, the calamity of the past couldn’t protect Hamlet then, and the same was true even now. Reynard led the Cavalry in a charge, tearing through them.

”Two of you dismount and bring the gear inside with me, the rest clear the surroundings.”

Reynard said, dismounting and leading the charge inside. Once he stepped in, he parried the sword the Skeleton warrior swung at him and kicked it back.

In an instant, the clatter of bones and battered armor resounded, parts falling all around to reveal a hollow frame beneath. Yet the eerie power still held it together, so it didn’t collapse.

However, with another sword swing from Reynard, it was thoroughly finished. At this moment, his companions also brought tools and charged in to occupy the watchtower.

The hardest part of taking the tower wasn’t the Skeletons, but the building itself, long lacking maintenance. You never know if stepping down might collapse the thing.

Thankfully, it seemed to be built before the ancestors’ downfall. Despite its dilapidation, it was still usable, showing Hamlet’s engineering quality back then.

Rushing to the top of the tower, Reynard wasted no time in setting up a sealed iron tube at the base.

The so-called flare is much like the principle behind firework launch and firearm discharge, using the high-temperature gas from gunpowder burning to propel the firework.

When the firework ”shell” was launched, the fuse was also ignited. The fuse burns during the ascent and explodes once the highest point is reached.

The slightly technical part involves calculating the relationship between the propellant amount and the ascent height, with the fuse timing perfectly for a peak explosion.

But they didn’t need to worry about all that; the researchers had already designed it. They only needed to ignite the ammunition.

Hamlet placed great importance on firearms, and Reynard knew how to operate it. Soon, the first signal flare was launched with a dull boom.

The tower’s height, combined with the launch elevation, ultimately set the physical light of a signal flare apart from Divine Arts like Holy Light, bursting above the ruins shrouded in darkness.

The darkness couldn’t mask the brightness; on the contrary, it highlighted its radiant splendor, even those far within could see it.

Others were unsure, but Hamlet’s people understood perfectly.

”What does this mean?” Brother Martin noticed the reaction from Hamlet’s people and immediately asked.

”It’s signaling us to evacuate from that direction; they’ll support us.” Barrett explained bluntly, his words stirring excitement among the adventurers and bringing a smile to Martin’s face. Though he disliked Hamlet, he had to admit they were truly united.

”Then let’s go quickly!”

”No, we still haven’t found one more team.” Barrett shook his head, rejecting the proposal.

Now, the group had swelled to a hundred, with parts of the Honor Guard scattered along the ruins joining up, along with more adventurers.

These people gathered in one building because they had yet to find one last team and couldn’t leave without them.

But as soon as he said that, it caused division on the scene...
