Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1303: Chapter 709: Self-Rescue_2

However, the title of Legendary Caster is no joke. Except for Lance, who is immune to spells, no one in the empire can stand against him.

Though the Candlelight Priest has not reached the rank of legendary, he is a champion of the Church, and his specialty effectively complements the monk’s weaknesses, or rather, the common ailments of spellcasters.

Once the Protection Ritual is activated, the priest and monk become like conjoined twins, so you’re not facing one, but two complementary strong allies. Even Lance must first incapacitate the priest to harm the monk.

The holy power these days excels against the impure forces. The brilliance emitted from the raised magic wand resembles a lawnmower, as it sweeps across, causing the skeletons to spontaneously combust and then collapse piece by piece.

”The evil is worth fighting!”

Amid shouts, Shields are thrust forward to block the scratching skeletons, and the warhammer, enveloped in holy light, swings easily to destroy their bodies.

The Candlelight Priest appears somewhat excited; the skeletons seem to have received some strengthening, becoming more ferocious and stronger. However, the strength of evil does not defeat him; instead, it makes him even more fervent.

Purify all evil!

The Mendicant Monk is not as optimistic. Although it appears like cutting grass, he knows the reality.

Spellcasting consumes energy, and in the darkness covering the ruins, he finds recovery difficult. If it drags on, he might be knocked out by the skeletons, which would be quite laughable.

And at this moment, they hear a sharp whistle piercing the air. Brother Martin is familiar with this, as only Hamlet’s People like to use it.

Though he doesn’t understand what the whistle means, he makes a bizarre move by actively approaching it.

Not only did it put them in trouble, but nearly everyone in the ruins fell into a frenzy of skeleton attacks.

Yet the Hamlet team naturally wants to gather together.

One drawback of the whistle here is its limited range, especially in the complex environment of the ruins.

William can use dogs to find other Hamlet squads, and Laura’s soaring hawks can mark their position, but these means are still too meager for so many teams.

They can only whistle while breaking out, though it attracts fewer teammates but many surrounding mercenaries.

If they can trust anything here, it would only be those Hamlet’s People they previously mocked as rigid, still attempting to maintain order in the ruins.

In chaotic situations, they first think of approaching Hamlet, which shows a level of recognition, even reliance. ℴ

Meanwhile, Scorpion and his group also heard the whistle during their breakout and immediately approached, believing Hamlet’s People must have a plan to escape.

Indeed, Brother Martin thinks the same; regardless, following these people increases his chances of survival.

Though he dislikes Hamlet’s Lord and their abandonment of the Church’s glory, at his age, he no longer values such superficial issues.

In a Church known for the principle of poverty and austere living, a ”Martyr” of great repute is so flexible; it’s truly...

”Begone, vile creatures!”

The Mendicant Monk lifts his magic wand, and a swath of holy light descends to ignite the skeletons. Previously, he didn’t shout slogans, but now it’s naturally to assert the Church’s presence.

But no one cares about these words; everyone is besieged by skeletons, relying on buildings for defense. The appearance of the Church duo undoubtedly temporarily resolved the crisis for the honor guard.

No one would be foolish enough to refuse such strong allies, especially in such circumstances.

Especially a gathered Mercenary Corps, upon seeing Martin, were as glad as seeing their own father.

In this period, he has treated many, reclaiming the Church Legend Martyr Martin’s reputation. Under the fervent praise of followers, no one remembers his fall from grace; instead, regardless of belief, everyone flattered him.

After all, who wouldn’t want to win over such a figure, knowing they might need treatment someday? Little did they expect that day to come so soon.

”Is it Brother Martin? Are we saved?”

”Oh! Thank the Holy Light, it must be the guidance of the Holy Light.”

”...”

The chaotic chatter gives Martin a headache. Though he dislikes these mercenaries, he signals with a raised hand.

His attention remains mainly on the Hamlet team.

”What do we do now?”

Brother Martin has a broad perspective; otherwise, another might ask what exactly happened in the ruins.

It’s an unspeakable topic because even they don’t know.

Practically, any answer would bring animosity towards Hamlet. Outside, Martin might welcome this, but now he’s part of the situation, and chaos benefits no one.

Regardless of the situation, they must escape to discuss further.

The Hamlet team feels somewhat troubled about how to reply.

”This is not simply rain or nightfall; survival requires finding a way to break out, stay here, and it’s a dead end.”

But Martin is dissatisfied with this response; who doesn’t know? Is there a way for your Hamlet team to escape?

He emphasizes again, ”I asked how to leave here!”

”Only fighting to break a path.”

The Hamlet team’s answer is straightforward, but not everyone accepts it.

After all, mercenaries making it here are somewhat rational and intervene.

”If it were the outskirts, we could charge out, but we’re too deep here, surrounded by skeletons on all sides. With our numbers, the safest way is to rely on buildings for defense, waiting for rescue.”

Martin doesn’t even hesitate for a minute before deciding.

”You know the situation here well, which route should we take?”

This statement directly indicates their choice, leaving the mercenaries speechless. But neither party cares about their opinion.

”There is no escape route with our numbers unless we can gather everyone’s strength, which requires a reverse strike.”

”What do you mean?”

”Most development of the ruins is actually on the outskirts, and currently, those deeply inside target the affluent areas. Although different routes are planned, they essentially span from the hamlet to the church.

Undoubtedly, many teams are trapped nearby, but lacking concrete goals, they’re dispersed. We must find a way to gather them; we also need to meet them.”

The honor guard’s commander is Barrett, and any sniper must be adequately calm.

His proposed plan sounds alarming, not to break out quickly but to turn back and gather other teams, including the honor guard and mercenaries, all skilled individuals reaching here.

”Originally, we planned to assist another team with hawks. With them, we’ll have eyes. However, relying solely on our strength makes this plan difficult, but perhaps Martin can help us.”

”How do you want us to help?” Martin knows it’s madness, but he has no choice.

”I heard you can create flashes to signal our presence, and we need them to break toward us, reducing our pressure.”

While speaking, Barrett arranges his equipment. Although he’s a sniper, it doesn’t mean his melee skills are lacking; on the contrary, being selected into the honor guard means they’re the best.

His bayonet has shattered countless cultists’ brains, and here, the rifle butt has crushed numerous skeletons. The honor guard doesn’t fear battle because they are the best!

While preparations are made externally for rescue, trapped ruins teams aren’t passive; they actively self-rescue, albeit through daring plans...
