Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1316: Chapter 716: Attending to One Thing and Losing Another

While Grendel and her group were discussing, the adventurers who had returned to the town dispersed, recounting what had transpired in the depths of the ruins.

Under the darkness, the madness of the skeletons, and the even more terrifying surge of the rat plague, no matter how they boasted about their bravery, they couldn’t avoid describing the Hamlet team.

In the face of calamity, they still dared to venture deeper to assist other teams, and even the cavalry willingly risked entering the ruins to aid their companions. What’s even more outrageous was that the high-level leaders stayed behind — what was going on? Wasn’t it supposed to be the leaders who leave first?

Whether it’s their resilience or the mutual solidarity between them, as well as their willingness to sacrifice, all demonstrated an attitude in Hamlet distinctly different from other places.

It’s far more impactful than countless proclamations of belief, because the facts were laid before them, and no one could make all the adventurers lie — hence, this was all true.

Some people’s accounts were even more exaggerated, making everyone who listened feel a surge of emotions. After all, those cavalry who tore through the fog brought them hope amidst despair.

This is a common trait among humans; they all yearn for help in the face of despair, thus fostering a peculiar sense of emotion towards Hamlet.

Of course, some individuals with ulterior motives would pay more attention to the combat power demonstrated by Hamlet.

They blasted a path through the skeletons’ encirclement, the church and army actually sided with Hamlet, not to mention the meteor that destroyed the rat plague, and the forest that suddenly appeared to block the pursuing forces...

All these highlighted the formidable power of Hamlet, and in this world, nothing cools the ambitions of those with bad intentions like power.

But they were unwilling to concede, seeing this disaster as a prime opportunity to shake Hamlet’s rule.

After all, so many adventurers gathered here, previously entangled by the ruins, but now certainly not willing to just wait around.

”Such phenomena cannot be human-made, perhaps only... Gods?”

”The evil of the ruins can even obscure the sun; has the Holy Light abandoned us?”

”Without the ruins, what should we do now?”

”...”

Various negative topics began to spread, or perhaps had already been spreading, but the despair recounted by those returning only pushed it to a peak.

Most were bewildered, lost in confusion — without the ruins, where should they head next?

Those insidious characters felt quite satisfied; unity was beyond them, but they were supreme at causing chaos.

Just then, the authorities responded.

”Come and see, come and see! We have launched a promotion plan, discounted boat tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis!”

”Hiring now, hiring now! Wilderness development, come if you’re available!”

”Check out short-term jobs at construction sites...”

The new notices on the bulletin boards attracted the adventurers, although the announcements didn’t mention anything about the anomalies, instead offering suggestions for retreat.

In short, they explained the dangers of the ruins and then provided routes to leave Hamlet, with tickets to the Totnes Channel priced a third less than before.

If heading to other nearby towns, the prices could be even lower, clearly supporting their leaving of Hamlet.

This was good news for those adventurers who wanted to leave, providing an affordable option.

This benefited from the reclaimed pirate ships, which had been cleaned and repaired over time, now rendering ample transport at sea, just needing more sailors, and Hamlet was not lacking in manpower.

Furthermore, it served to further divide them, as among them, aside from genuine adventurers coming for the ruins from afar, there were also common people from nearby or other places — essentially scavengers.

Now giving them a choice, since they can’t head to the ruins, they could go to the wilderness or construction sites for development. Spending some money to dismantle and dissolve them was worthwhile; anyway, it’s short-term work calculated daily, and stabilizing the situation was paramount.

Many planned to leave, as the ruins no longer promised wealth but were now filled with evil and danger, a place abandoned by the Holy Light.

The small-minded ones assumed they had succeeded in causing people to abandon Hamlet, but why didn’t the Hamlet people show any signs of loss?

Some ”smart ones” sensed something unusual, thus became more actively in search of information.

Then it was discovered that the high-level personnel went to see the mysteriously charismatic and legendary army.

This situation immediately seemed like a clue, but unfortunately, the soldiers and police moving among them made overt actions too risky.

As for using extraordinary powers?

From the tales of those who escaped, it was clear Hamlet had numerous powerful spellcasters, and no one wanted to challenge them.

Thus, unable to obtain information from Hamlet’s side, they could only extract more details from the adventurers.

Then they uncovered an intriguing piece of information: the army had appeared suddenly; before this, no one knew their whereabouts, nor had anyone seen them, so naturally, no one knew what they had done.
