I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Red, blue, yellow, and green correspond to the four attributes of fire, water, thunder, and poison, respectively. The body’s magical pouch allows it to cast magic instinctively; with just a thought, the elemental energy in the pouch gushes out, transforming into the corresponding elemental magic attack.

In its body, a special maze authority also resides. It is precisely with this authority that it can command nearly the entire layer of demons at will.

At this moment, it is closing its eyes, seemingly sensing something.

Only moments later, it suddenly opens its eyes, a flicker of human-like contemplation flashing in its scarlet frog eyes.

”Ribbit...”

Although it has already made the demon frogs start attacking them frantically, those intruders are still continuously advancing towards its direction.

It begins to doubt whether it has been exposed.

As a demon, its intelligence is actually not low, even smarter than most humans.

Since the maze opened, it has never appeared once, even facing those human adventurers much weaker than itself, let alone those humans stronger than it, who might kill it, it is even less likely to jump in front of them.

It would only send out its demon subordinates to attack, even if it means sacrificing many of its subordinates’ lives to exchange for a human adventurer’s life, it still chooses not to show itself.

That’s because, besides attacking human adventurers, it also issued another order, which is to let the demon servants begin to breed in large quantities.

The number of human adventurers entering the maze is limited, whereas with the breeding ability of demons, their numbers are far more than humans. So as long as it, as the lord, survives, even exchanging dozens or hundreds of demons for a human adventurer’s life, it is worth it.

Only this time, the situation seems different.

Even though it has hidden itself very well, those humans are charging forward as if they already knew its location.

”Why?”

Its gaze seems to penetrate the thick rock layers, seeing Gauss and the others advancing quickly.

Until the distance between them is about five hundred meters, it finally confirms that its existence has indeed been exposed.

”Ribbit!!!”

With a deep frog croak, the entire fourth layer of the maze seems to fall into a slight tremor.

Demons from all directions almost simultaneously raise their heads, looking in a certain direction, then simultaneously begin to migrate.

...

”Careful!”

The young swordsman swings his longsword, slashing out sword qi to cut a huge thunderball in half that was attacking his mage companion.

The thunderball quickly exploded after being cut, countless currents like small snakes struck in all directions.

In just a moment, a scorched black deep pit with a diameter of two meters was left on the ground.

Seeing this, the mage, whose attention was originally on several elite-level frogs in front, suddenly had his pupils contract sharply, turning to look at the young swordsman, sincerely thanking him.

If he hadn’t acted to deal with this insidious sneak attack, once the thunderball exploded beside him, he was not sure if the mage shield and mage robe he wore could resist the lightning attack.

”We’re teammates, this is all...”

Without turning his head, the swordsman waved his hand while vigilantly observing the surrounding forest.

But before he could finish his words, they got stuck in his throat.

”Why did these demons suddenly retreat?”

Only to see, under the surprised gazes of him and a few other teammates, the demon frogs were rapidly turning directions, jumping towards the depths of the forest.

This abnormal scene puzzled everyone present.

It’s known that since they arrived at the fourth layer, this is the first time they’ve witnessed such a situation.

According to their experience, the demons of the fourth layer are like manic madmen, unless they are all killed, they’ll relentlessly attack any humans they encounter.

Such a ”bleed till the last drop” approach makes exploring the fourth layer extremely challenging, with risks of injury and death far higher than in previous layers.

So, for squads like theirs, even if it means lowering exploration efficiency, they always return to camp to rest each day.

”Captain, should we chase?”

”No! Let’s return to camp first!” The adventurer squad’s captain furrows his brow, contemplating for a moment before making a decision.

When something strange happens, there’s likely something extraordinary going on.

He knows the maze’s fourth layer has likely undergone some extremely unusual change.

Whether it’s a blessing or misfortune, their most prudent action is to return to camp, not only because there are many people and sufficient defensive forces there, but more importantly, if they encounter irresistible forces, they can retreat from the fourth layer as quickly as possible.

The treasures of the maze are good indeed, but if it costs one their life, it’s not worth it.

Adventurers able to explore the fourth layer, at the weakest, are bronze level, with more rich adventuring experience.

In fact, many adventurers in the fourth layer maze at this moment are making the same choice as this adventurer squad, all heading towards the camp upon detecting the anomaly.

Meanwhile, at the source of the abnormality, Gauss’s team is already extremely close to their target’s location.

”Be careful.”

”The lord should have discovered us.”

Gauss notices the demons attacking them have clearly become more violent, thus quickly realizing it’s due to a command from the lord behind them.

”Leader, you can go ahead, leave these monsters to us,” Luna assures him.

Although there are many demons around, most without formal challenge levels are ordinary demons, maybe dispatched to attack adventurers on the fourth layer. The number of elite demons here isn’t as many as imagined.
