I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Gauss also heard the sincerity in Kieran’s words and knew that this matter was likely concluded.

Gauss continued to converse with Kieran for a while longer before taking his leave.

After Gauss left, Kieran called in the family’s attendants.

”Brother Gauss probably doesn’t harbor too much of a negative impression about the Xavier family because of this. You can go back and report to those suspicious old men.”

”By the way, tell Brandon’s branch to properly restrain their people. I don’t want to hear about any trouble caused by them for the family next time.”

”Especially Joanna, I don’t want her to leave her family estate for the next five years.”

”Rest assured, Lord Kieran,” the attendant respectfully bowed and retreated.

The Xavier family was actually more tense about the unexpected conflict last night.

Not only because Gauss is a super genius valued by the Adventurer’s Guild, but also because he has repeatedly been identified as having extraordinary strength.

Although it’s hard to understand how he possesses such powerful combat capabilities at Level 7 Professional Level, successive battle achievements don’t lie.

That means, even as Gauss stands now, he is truly a formidable figure.

The well-established Xavier family has always respected such high-end combat strength.

...

Having come to the Red Dragon Team’s estate, Cicero happily spent two days before returning to the academy for classes.

Gauss watched the bustling activity at the estate, contemplating a very important matter.

That is, when to kill his first Extraordinary Level demon.

Hunting an Extraordinary demon is essential for Gauss because it concerns the timing of acquiring his first golden-quality talent.

As with the previous acquisition of blue and purple quality talents, when he hunts his first Extraordinary demon, he will inevitably gain Extraordinary Points to advance his talents.

But he hasn’t set out to do this because he’s still being cautious.

Reality isn’t a game; it’s not the type where reaching a certain level requires urgent advancement to acquire breakthrough materials and is able to pinpoint required enemies on the map with a click.

First, one must understand that finding Extraordinary demons near human territories has a low probability. Even in the demon territories, such level creatures stand as Lords; akin to how there’s an adage in the human world about wise men not standing under a dangerous wall. For high-level demons, they understand that the closer they are to the border, the higher the encounter and death probabilities.

Up until now, Gauss has only personally battled with two Extraordinary Level combatants.

One of whom, Cecilia the Extraordinary Dragon Priestess, is human, so the only demon encountered was the Extraordinary Centaur in Black Water Town’s urban area recently, and besides this one, there are no other Extraordinary demons.

In other words, his only known suitable target right now is that centaur.

One might ask, why not be proactive in searching for more suitable Extraordinary demons? But this matter is quite difficult.

If he could freely choose, he would certainly pick, for safety reasons, an opponent at the weakest level of the Extraordinary stage, namely targets that have only recently advanced to Level 11, to kickstart his ”Extraordinary Path.”

But thinking from the opponent’s perspective, those newly ascended Extraordinary demons would likely be busy consolidating their strengths, not venturing into the human world.

Also, he aims for opponents at Level 11, but there’s still a chance of encountering Level 12, Level 13, or stronger unknown adversaries.

Headache...

On one hand, Gauss hopes to soon advance his racial talent to a new realm, enabling him to gain more strength early.

He has gradually felt that the fragile balance between humans and demons is about to be broken; the wheels of fate rolling ahead will crush any obstacle before them. He needs greater strength to protect himself in the future’s unpredictable situations.

On the other hand, hidden within these opportunities are unknown risks.

While he could become stronger step by step, is it necessary to increase risk for the sake of saving some time?

No one can answer this question for him.

”Forget it, wait and see, break through to Level 8, then assess my strength.”

For Gauss, the currently known target is just one Extraordinary Centaur, and evidently, he does not yet possess the power to confront it.

Some time ago, he only managed to slip away due to exploiting the opponent’s lack of understanding of his ”Any Door” to play on information asymmetry; there was still a considerable gap in strength between them.

Hence, he can only wait until he breaks through to Level 8 Magic Envoy, then judge if his strength meets the requirements. Before meeting the requirements, he will not venture rashly.

Or perhaps during this period, he might encounter another weaker Extraordinary demon; who knows?

Gauss took a sip of tea.

”It’s best to be prepared for two scenarios.”

On one hand, sending scouts to gather intelligence on the appearance of suitable Extraordinary demons, and on the other, looking for more commissions related to regular centaurs.

During the recent events in Black Water Town’s center, he killed a few ordinary centaurs with the aftershocks of his attack.

Thus, he acquired the title ”Centaur Hunter.”

Extraordinary Dragon Descendant centaurs are also centaurs. If, before the battle, he can elevate the Centaur Hunter to Centaur Slayer, or even Centaur Exterminator, then he should increase his chances of success considerably.

Centaurs, it’s not that I want to target you, but currently, the only demon intelligence I have is for one Extraordinary creature, Gauss silently thought.
