I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

The beastmen living in the swamp wetlands have slight differences in form compared to ordinary beastmen.

In order to adapt to the humid environment, the swamp beastmen have skin that is not as dry and rough as ordinary beastmen; instead, it is smoother and tougher, almost always coated with a layer of sticky liquid.

This liquid can reduce the friction generated when they walk in the mud, and it also prevents skin ulcers caused by prolonged soaking in the wetlands.

At this moment, many beastmen in the swamp simultaneously felt the temperature rise sharply.

The abundant moisture in the air seemed to be drained in an extremely short time, and this environmental change made the swamp beastmen, who are highly sensitive to humidity, notice the anomaly almost instantly.

The next moment.

”Boom!”

A tremor as if an earthquake shook the center of the swamp.

Floating in the sky, Gauss watched as his fireball spell crashed down on the swamp beastmen’s lair. The fireball spell, elevated to fourth ring power, clashed with the miasma floating over the swamp, and the surrounding magic power began to rampage instantly.

Don’t underestimate that miasma, it contains rich natural magic, seemingly a special protective measure, with a high intensity.

If it were an ordinary fourth ring magic or an attack of similar intensity, it indeed wouldn’t be able to break through that seemingly fragile defense.

However, the elevated fireball technique released by Gauss is not the kind of ordinary fourth ring spell that could be underestimated. Soon, the miasma magic defense couldn’t withstand the burden, and shattered with a roar.

Above the sky, the morning sunlight finally pierced through the enduring miasma, shining down on the ground.

The entire sky over the swamp seemed suddenly torn open with a gigantic hole.

”Woo woo woo!!!”

The beastmen exposed to the sunlight blew their horns.

They crouched on the densely rooted trees like mangroves, looking around trying to locate the enemy’s position.

Finally, in the center of the opened hole, they saw the figure with no intention of concealment.

”Human!”

An observant beastman scout identified the identity of the individual who suddenly barged into the home lair.

Every beastman is familiar with humans.

Recently, in the past few months, they have been in frequent fights with humans.

From the siege battles at the beginning of the year, to subsequent choices of lair locations, and battles with those humans who fled the towns and trekked through the wilds, as well as the human adventurers who began coming to this land one after another.

But in every encounter, they were almost always at an advantage.

Ordinary humans, to the beastmen who act in groups, are no different from cattle and sheep waiting to be slaughtered. At first, they even kept them as slaves and reserve food, until those imprisoned humans started getting sick and dying frequently, they abandoned the plan.

However, the human currently appearing above them seemed different from those timid, starving humans who were skin and bones.

His gaze was icy cold.

When it fell on them, it immediately made the beastmen feel a chilling fear, as if they were being watched by some terrifying creature.

Gauss observed the exposed situation of the swamp beastmen’s lair.

White bones were everywhere.

Some belonged to beasts, but more belonged to human skeletal remains.

If counted carefully, it’s estimated they totaled two or three hundred.

These were only the ones he saw, who knows how many more were hidden in the mud.

This discovery made him frown slightly.

After confirming no humans survived in the beastmen’s lair, he didn’t hesitate any longer and raised the white magic wand in his hand again.

His first fireball spell was merely to break through the magic miasma in the air to examine the specifics of the lair, now he was ready to move for real.

Below, some beastman casters caught his movement and hurriedly released their prepared spells.

Some were energy arrows, others released magic countermeasures, trying to interrupt his casting preparations.

Under the beastmen’s watch, those varying quantities and strengths of magical auras landed on Gauss.

Then...

Nothing happened.

Just like silver needles falling into the ocean, the magical auras had no effect.

Gauss’s movements didn’t alter because of them.

”Elevated Fireball Technique!”

As Gauss pressed down the fireball spell, he noticed that several beastmen casters below were jointly chanting, and a column-shaped magic energy full of runes was slowly rising.

”Boom!”

The exploding fireball spell landed on the defensive magic. Maybe because the spell was used in tandem by multiple beastmen, its strength was unexpectedly higher than Gauss anticipated.

Therefore, it held for two more seconds.

After absorbing part of the impact energy and heat, the defensive magic also shattered.

Although the beastman race can learn magic, their overall talent is not outstanding.

Facing Gauss, extremely proficient in spells, they seemed powerless even when many confront one.

”Bang!!!”

A mushroom cloud-like energy cluster erupted at the center of the swamp.

In just an instant, those beastman figures were blown away like paper.

The moist soil at the explosion center was blasted into a deep pit, and it became dry and hard, like a dried-up lake.

”Damn human!”

A male and a female figure leaped up from the ground.

”Can’t hold back anymore?”

Gauss remained expressionless, using the flying skill to dodge their jumping attack.

Although, in his assessment, their attacks likely wouldn’t penetrate his layers of protection to harm him, considering the likelihood that the two beastmen before him were the leaders of this lair and not ordinary lackeys, he showed them some respect.
