I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

When the battle ended, Gauss deliberately piled these people’s corpses together and set them alight with flames.

The flames of this world can likewise purify most harmful substances.

If these corpses were left in the wilderness, they would inevitably be eaten by crows or other scavengers, which might cause a chain of consequences, so it was better to burn everything clean with one fire.

”Fisher is dead too.”

Gauss glanced at Luna, who looked like she wanted to speak but held back, knowing she was curious about what had happened to Fisher, who had just slipped out of sight, so he directly told her Fisher’s fate.

Hearing that Fisher was dead, Luna finally let out a breath of relief, a look of release appearing on her face.

Although she hadn’t personally avenged Wolf, at least Fisher hadn’t gone unpunished; dying at the hands of Gauss, whom he’d been scheming about all along, could be considered a kind of karmic retribution.

”Thank you.”

Luna wiped the blood off her face and looked at everyone as she expressed her thanks.

She had originally been prepared to sacrifice herself to buy time for her teammates to escape.

But she hadn’t expected that Gauss, who had no kinship or prior ties with her, would in the end choose to shelter her.

In her view, Gauss had just taken the initiative to strike first at Fisher, forcing Fisher to reveal his true colors.

”You don’t need to thank me.”

”I was just doing it to protect myself. That guy had ill intentions toward us as well.”

”He made a move on my teammates just now, so I attacked him.”

Gauss shook his head and spoke frankly.

Fisher’s greatest mistake was taking the initiative to lay hands on his teammates.

But it was too late for him to regret it now.

Hearing Gauss’s reason for acting, Luna not only didn’t feel disappointed, she actually approved of him even more.

Gauss was a good leader.

”What do you plan to do next?”

Gauss’s gaze shifted toward the few people in the distance who were slowly approaching.

These were also elite members Fisher had brought, but unlike these captains here, once they realized Fisher had exposed an abnormal, evil power, they immediately chose to distance themselves and pulled away from the battlefield.

It seemed they hadn’t been deeply involved in Fisher’s schemes.

At this point, apart from Vice Leader Luna and the few veteran members at her side, Gray Wolf’s Fang had very few high-end combatants left.

The former leader, Level 10 Warrior Wolf, was dead; Fisher, the Level 9 third-in-command and head of intelligence, along with several other Master Level captains, had all been cut down by Gauss.

Although a large number of mid- and low-level combatants remained, it was obvious that relying on just them wouldn’t be enough to hold on to Gray Wolf’s Fang’s original foundation.

If they wanted to maintain the team structure of Gray Wolf’s Fang, they would inevitably have to scale back.

Gauss’s gaze turned to Luna.

When he had hypnotized the completely helpless Fisher earlier, he had also taken the opportunity to ask about some details of Fisher’s rebellion.

Because of that, he had quite a good impression of this upright vice leader.

If she wanted to continue holding power in Gray Wolf’s Fang, he wouldn’t mind lending a small hand.

Once she stabilized things on her side, their two forces could help each other, be friendly neighbors and such.

Hearing Gauss’s question, a trace of confusion flickered across Luna’s face.

These past days, she had been wholly focused on how to escape and report Fisher’s murder of Wolf to the Adventurer’s Guild, but she hadn’t seriously considered what her next move would be after Fisher was punished.

Ultimately, all of this had happened too suddenly for her.

Before setting out, she had thought this commission would be no different from all the others they had taken.

Arrive at the commission location, gather intel, clear out monsters, loot the spoils, return to town to rest, and prepare for the next job...

She hadn’t imagined that this seemingly ordinary commission would trigger an earthshaking change for the entire adventure group.

Perhaps this was what adventure was.

You can never predict in advance what will happen tomorrow.

”I...”

”Then think it over,” Gauss said, taking the opportunity to go speak with his own subordinates.

Luna fell into inner turmoil.

She wasn’t suited to play the role of a leader; compared to making decisions, she was better at carrying them out.

This was also why she had stayed with Gray Wolf’s Fang for so many years yet had never left to go solo.

She didn’t have the kind of ambition Fisher had, that refusal to remain under others.

But in the current Gray Wolf’s Fang, it seemed that aside from her, there was no one else who could shoulder the burden.

Just as her mind was racing, her somewhat dazed eyes suddenly flicked to the young, handsome man beside her.

A thought sprouted in her mind like wild grass, rapidly taking root and growing.

Looking at the teammates and ordinary members gathered around Gauss, sharing concern and small talk, a hint of envy flashed across her face.

Unlike the larger Gray Wolf’s Fang, the Red Dragon Team, with only a few dozen people, looked far more united; there weren’t so many schemes and intrigues, and everyone was gathered around this man.

And this man truly deserved the devotion of his subordinates.

His strength was formidable: even Fisher, who had obtained power from the Evil God and murdered Wolf, had been swiftly killed by him.

And he cared for his subordinates.

She could read from those ordinary members’ faces that their respect and concern for Gauss were sincere, not sycophantic flattery.

”Leader Gauss, I want to join you.”

When Luna came over with a few of her trusted followers and voiced this thought, even Gauss was a bit taken aback.

It wasn’t that he had never considered this possibility.

It was just that he had quickly dismissed the idea himself.

Strictly speaking, today was the first time Gauss and Luna had ever interacted, and they had spoken for less than ten minutes in total.
